Chapter 1412:
âTroublesome,â Lucius muttered, his expression darkening. He pulled a pill from his pocket and strode over to her, shoving it into her mouth. Harlee swallowed it dryly and then slumped weakly against the bed, a bitter sigh escaping her lips.
âYou almost smashed all the chairs. I donât have the energy to stand.â
Luciusâs face grew colder, his features frozen with disdain.
Harlee ignored his growing fury and calmly said, âIâve got a question.â
âItâs my turn to ask now, not yours!â His voice was sharp, his attitude a complete 180. The warmth once present in his eyes was gone, replaced by an icy, almost cruel demeanor.
âIs this the surprise you have set up for Nicola?â She shot him a side glance, unruffled.
Luciusâ eyes flashed with fury.
âItâs none of your business! Donât even think about trying anything funny. If you donât take the antidote within a day, you can forget about keeping that baby in your belly.â
His words were a venomous threat, but Harlee only felt a growing wave of disgust.
âYour love is truly shameless and revolting!â Harlee snapped, her voice dripping with contempt.
âYouâre always professing how you loved Nicola, even if she didnât reciprocate your feelings. But here you are, showing your true colors.â
Her gaze bored into him, full of scorn.

âNo wonder she never had any feelings for you. Lucius, youâre unworthy. Absolutely unworthy!â For years, everyone had believed Luciusâ love for Nicola was nobleâselfless, even. The kind that asked for nothing in return. But Harlee saw it differently now. His love wasnât pure. It was desperate, suffocating, and full of shame.
âShe had deceived me for years. She hadnât even respected my feelings!â Luciusâ eyes were bloodshot, the kind of eyes one would expect from a demon risen from the depths of hell. Hatred churned inside him, a seething storm he could no longer contain. The love he had given Nicolaânow trampled beneath her lies. So, why should he be required to love her unconditionally in return?
âHad you not forced her with your life, would she have had to go to such lengths?â Harlee snapped, her voice thick with anger.
Her fragile body, now agitated, couldnât handle the strain, and she coughed violently several times.
âWhat else do you know?â Lucius froze, his eyes wide with disbelief at her knowledge. After all, Nicola had died before Harlee even returned to the Sanderson family. But Nicola had faked her death once before to trick him. Could it be?
Without warning, Lucius leaped to his feet, storming toward Harlee with a look of growing desperation. He grabbed her shoulders roughly, shaking her fiercely as he barked, âWhat else do you know? Where is Nicola? Sheâs not dead, is she? Tell me where she is. Tell her to show herself!â
Harleeâs body was already fragile, drained of energy, and Luciusâ violent shaking only added to the pressure. Her stomach twisted painfully, and before she could even try to stop it, she vomited up all the oatmeal sheâd eaten earlier, the sour mixture splattering right onto Lucius. She had aimed carefully, making sure the mess landed exactly on him.
Lucius froze, his face transforming into a mask of fury, his rage practically radiating off him.
Harlee couldnât help but feel a dark satisfaction at the sight. She knew well about Luciusâ extreme aversion to germsâthis was no accident. Sheâd made sure to disgust him as much as possible.
âMoss, take her upstairs!â Lucius barked, his voice a sharp command. He stormed toward the door, muttering something to the guard standing outside before walking away without even sparing her another glance.
Harlee, struggling to steady herself against the bed, clenched her fists tightly. The terror of nearly losing everything still lingered in her chest. She had gambled on Lucius having just a shred of decency left, hoping he wouldnât let her pay for her defiance by causing her to lose the baby. It seemed she had won the bet.
