Chapter 1418:
Luciusâ eyes narrowed, suspicion evident.
âWhat are you planning?â
Harlee turned her head slightly, letting out a chuckle that carried a hint of mockery. Her voice became razor-sharp, her words slicing through the tension.
âIf I had any malicious plans, the moment you set foot on the island, you and your men wouldâve been completely surrounded. Thereâd be no need for this charade, would there? But since you trust the strength of your own poison, rest easy. Until I get that antidote, Iâll do whatever you say.â
After taunting him, Harlee reassured him, âI can show you where Nicola used to live tonight. Tomorrow morning, we can visit her tomb to offer our respects.â
She paused, her lips curling into a smirk that held an edge.
âI hope youâre prepared for what youâll see.â
Lucius, his voice cold as steel, grabbed her wrist.
âWhat do you mean by that?â
Harlee yanked her hand free with a flick of her wrist, her smile never faltering. It was the kind of smile that hid a thousand meanings.
âYouâll find out soon enough,â she replied simply.
Her eyes darted to Rhys, her expression softening as she silently checked his reaction to Luciusâ rudeness. Finding no obvious signs of distress, she exhaled a long, quiet sigh of relief. Turning to Thiago, she commanded, âTake us to Nicolaâs old place.â
Harlee had made her plan clear, and Thiago played along without raising Luciusâ suspicion.

The group trudged through the dense foliage, with Thiago leading them along a narrow, uneven path to prevent Lucius from spotting any important buildings on the island. The terrain was unforgiving, with roots and branches clawing at their legs like unseen hands. The dense forest surrounded them on all sides.
After nearly half an hour of walking, a run-down wooden house slowly came into view. Lucius glanced at it and moved forward, his steps stiff with tension. Then, he froze. How could this be? How could Nicola have once lived in such a place?
Harlee spoke up, breaking the silence.
âOh, right, I forgot to mention. After the Bloodthirstiness Pill was forced down Nicolaâs throat, she never left this island. And, of course, no one came to see her either.â
Harlee didnât give Lucius a specific timeline, intentionally leaving out details to make him assume that Nicola hadnât returned to honor her promise to him because she couldnât control herself after taking the pill.
Seeing the shock and despair cross Luciusâ face, Harlee added nonchalantly, âYou must be pretty familiar with the Bloodthirstiness Pill, right? Want me to fill in the gaps?â
Lucius stood frozen, his face changing as he processed her words. At her question, his eyes flickered toward her, a sharp pain clawing at his heart like a beast tearing him apart. Of course, he knew about the Bloodthirstiness Pill.
Lucius had bought up a large quantity of the pills, planning to use them on the Green and Sanderson families once his scheme came to fruition. To think that Nicolaâs death was tied to those very pills. So, that was why she never returned⦠That had to be the reason! Nathaniel must have been lying out of jealousy, or maybe he hadnât even realized Nicola had died from the Bloodthirstiness Pill.
Harlee studied Luciusâ face closely, hoping to catch any hint of weakness. But Lucius, ever the strategist, kept his emotions in check, his face an impenetrable mask.
She was preparing to strike again, but before she could speak, Lucius interrupted.
âI need to be alone here tonight.â
âArenât you worried Iâll just slip away?â Harlee shot back.
Lucius smirked, his voice low but casual.
âGo ahead and tell them Iâve poisoned you, but make sure youâre ready to watch your baby die.â
His words were laced with menace, though his tone remained surprisingly calm.
