Chapter 1434:
âI was only going to ask whatâs been going on lately,â Harlee said, giving him a pitiful look.
Rhys shot back, his voice cool and firm, âIf thereâs anything you want to know, you can ask me.â
Harleeâs lips twisted into a small pout. Should she ask him? As if heâd tell her the full story. Anything remotely unfavorable would get conveniently left out.
Sighing, Harlee slid the pillow from behind her and lay flat against the mattress.
âForget it. Since Iâm fresh out of a coma, Iâll just sleep.â
âThen Iâll sleep too,â Rhys declared, slipping into bed beside her before she could protest.
Harlee discreetly rolled her eyes but gave in, shutting her lids to rest. Though she was itching to uncover what had unfolded during the past three days, a persistent headache made her surrender to the comfort of sleep.
Rhys, seeing her discomfort, pulled her into a gentle embrace and began humming softlyâa melody so soothing that it worked like a spell. Before long, Harlee was out like a light.
Two hours later, Harlee stirred awake, feeling surprisingly refreshed. The weariness from her three-day unconscious state seemed to have vanished entirely. Her cheeks were flushed with color, making her look almost radiant.
At dinner, the sight of Harlee devouring two hefty bowls of macaroni and cheese left Rhys and the Sanderson clan utterly speechless. Harlee hadnât eaten like this since she got pregnant. What had sparked this sudden appetite? Could it be that the antidote had some kind of strange side effects? Goodwin still needed to come over and have a look!
As Lonnie mulled over the possibilities, Harlee licked her lips and tilted her head, her voice as sweet as honey.

âThat was amazing, Dad. Is there more?â
The innocence in her expression made her look like a child asking for seconds of dessert.
Lonnie stumbled over his words.
âY-yeah, Iâll whip up some more for you.â
But Skyla placed a firm hand on his arm before he could rise.
âHarlee, donât you think youâve had enough?â
This was uncharted territory for Skyla. Back when Harlee was newly pregnant, Skyla had practically begged her to eat more for the babyâs sake. Now, it seemed the pendulum had swung too far in the other direction.
Harlee placed a hand on her belly, her tone still tinged with longing.
âOkay, fine, just one more bowl of soup then.â
Skyla could only sigh in exasperation. Was Harlee genuinely this hungry, or was something strange at play? And why did Harlee have to look so pitiful about it?
Lonnie, meanwhile, couldnât bear to see his daughter go unsatisfied. Without another word, he headed to the kitchen to prepare the soup. Skyla rubbed her temples.
âHarlee, are you sure itâs safe to eat this much? Maybe we should call Goodwin to take a look.â
Understanding her motherâs concern, Harlee nodded.
âLet Serena check instead. She should be back with the rest of you, right?â
Skyla shot a questioning glance at Rhys, silently asking him to step in. Clearing his throat, Rhys offered a resigned explanation.
âActually⦠Serena went back to Uwhor. She said sheâs researching some kind of pill and wonât be back for a few days.â
Harlee gave a nod of acknowledgment. She knew Serenaâs research pursuits but hadnât anticipated such a swift resolution.
With Serenaâs interlude, Skyla decided not to push for Goodwin to come over, as Harlee hadnât shown any other issues aside from eating a bit more than usual.
