Chapter 1497:
Shock seized Trenton. Multiple lives? She couldnât possibly know about that. He was certain he hadnât disclosed anything. How could she know he had been responsible for so many deaths? It had to be a trick. Surely, she was just guessing!
Frantically, Trenton replied, âNo, miss, you misunderstand. I made my face look dangerous on purpose. Iâve never actually spilled blood before, and this abduction was my first offense.â
Watching him intently, Harleeâs expression remained unfeeling, her voice low and firm.
âIs that the case? Then itâs time you made amends.â
Trenton trembled at her statement. What did she mean by that? What did she want from him?
Harlee continued, âIf you divulge everything about your employers in this kidnapping, Iâll take your claims to be true.â
He replied almost reflexively, âI know nothing of who employed us. A card, a note, and a photo taken secretly were left in my rented room. The instructions on theâ¦â
The note was clear: take you, the woman in the photo, to the abandoned factory at the cityâs edge, and afterward, four million more would be transferred to the card.
As Harlee appeared doubtful, Trenton earnestly added, âI swear, miss, on everything dear to me, that I donât know anything more about the employer. I would never have risked it if not for the substantial payment offered.â
Trenton spoke with candor, revealing all he knew. If not for the twenty million found on the card, he might have dismissed it as nothing more than a cruel joke.
Harleeâs eyebrows arched sharply, her gaze slicing through the tension as if she could see straight into his soul.

Just as Trenton feared his bloody past was about to be exposed, the sharp ring of a phone broke the silence.
Harlee slowly retrieved her phone from her pocket and answered the call.
Rhysâ voice came through, edged with concern.
âLee, youâre not back yet?â
âJust a minor hiccup,â Harlee said, her tone light and dismissive.
Now fully alert, Rhys asked, âWhat happened?â
Brenton, noticing something amiss, leaned in with unexpected curiosity, eager for details.
âNothing serious,â Harlee replied, her eyes fixed on Trenton as he inched toward the alley exit.
âJust killed three people in an alley leading to Baythorn University. Might make it four.â
âIâm on my way.â
Rhys had already settled into the passenger seat by the time he spoke. Brenton, on the other hand, was firmly positioned behind the wheel.
Harlee held her ground, her expression steady, though a subtle softness flickered in her gaze.
âThereâs no need for that. Iâm heading to the abandoned steel pipe factory in the suburbs. Thatâs where Iâll find the answers about my abductors.â
She paused briefly before adding with a faint smirk, âMake sure the area is cleared within half an hour. Itâs a busy route, and we wouldnât want to draw any unnecessary attention.â
Without giving Rhys a chance to respond, she ended the call decisively. On the other side, after sending Harlee a location request, Rhys turned to Brenton and said, âIâll drive.â
Usually, this would have sparked an argument about who was the better driver. However, this time, Brenton stepped out of the driverâs seat without protest. He didnât even react when Rhys drove off before he had a chance to climb back in.
Instead, Brenton sent Rhys two messages: âIf Harlee isnât brought back safe, donât bother coming back.â
âIâll handle the bodies perfectly.â
