Chapter 1620:
As Moshe thought of Harlee, his brow furrowed, his face growing more somber.
âMr. Happer, are you familiar with Harlee?â
âI donât recognize that name.â
Errolâs expression conveyed sheer disregard. He couldnât be expected to know every individual when he had people for that.
Moshe wasnât surprised. He quickly pulled up the information about Harlee and said, âMr. Happer, from what I know, out of all of Nolaâs opponents, only Miss Sanderson hasnât faced a significant loss. Davenport seems to be in contact with her, so I believeâ¦â
âMm, go and see to it.â
Clearly, Errol didnât take Mosheâs words to heart, yet, out of long-standing caution, he instructed Moshe to secretly investigate, âMake sure they donât find out.â
By âthey,â Errol meant not just Harlee and her team, but also Nola and Davenport.
âUnderstood!â With a respectful nod, Moshe left the study to coordinate a discreet investigation into Harlee.
âHarlee, are we expecting someone?â Serena, noticing Harleeâs lack of direction, decided to break the silence.
Just then, Rhys called. Harlee responded with a nod, put her finger to her lips signaling silence, and leaned against the car to press the answer button.
âHave you wrapped up the meeting?â She arched an eyebrow.
Rhys gestured dismissively toward Cillian, stood up, and strode toward the French window.
âCillianâs booked the last flight out. Iâll be in Uwhor in three hours.â
After detailing his travel plans, Rhys expressed his concerns, âWhatâs the latest situation on the Happer family? Are we abandoning Davenport?â
âI donât have all the details yet. Serena and I are here meeting someone.â
While talking, Harlee peered into the distance, spotting something.
âIâll fill you in when you get to Uwhor. I have something to take care of right now.â
âOkay.â
Rhys ended the call without further questions. He then checked his watch, his expression reflective.
Meanwhile, a blond man in the distinctive black suit of the Rapper family bodyguards blocked Harlee in the small grove and firmly said, âNo, I cannot let you see Davenport now. In three days, once Errol has calmed down, Iâll set up a meeting with Davenport.â
Serena, who was in the midst of drawing a handgun for protection, paused in shock upon hearing him. Was this the person Harlee had been texting to meet? Why did he appear so unreliable?
Harlee slipped her hand into her pocket, leaned back against the car, and cautiously put away her phone. She squinted slightly, her piercing gaze fixed on the blond man.
Serena could see the anger in Harleeâs eyes and knew the blond man was about to face serious trouble.
In the next moment, as expected, Harlee withdrew a handgun from her belt and aimed it directly at the blond manâs head. Her tone remained even, her words brief but heavy with authority.
âThree days? Are you sure?â
The blond man, his hands shaking, raised them in surrender, his face turning into a flattering grin as he dropped to his knees with a thud.
âHarlee, I realize my mistake. Please, I beg for mercy. Spare my life?â
Serena watched, confused and shocked. How did this man know Harleeâs name? Did Harlee run another group apart from Twilight?
The man, Stefan Marshall, was petrified that Harlee might actually pull the trigger. He stammered, âIâll correct my attitude. Right now⦠Iâll take you to see Davenport now.â
Truthfully, Stefan had always been a faithful follower. He had never thought to defy Harlee. He hadnât anticipated that his first act of rebellion would be met with a gun to his head. He cursed inwardly. That bastard Aldrich had misled him into believing Harlee had softened. Once he was done with the Happer family affair, he vowed to give Aldrich a sound beating!
