Chapter 1661:
Harlee responded with a simple, âOkay.â
Rhys smiled wryly and then accelerated, speeding along the road.
They arrived at a restaurant with the best seaside view, making their table the most noticeable in the venue.
While Elvaâs attractiveness might not match Harleeâs or Rhysâ, she still stood out as a vibrant and attractive university belle.
As they dined, a male voice unexpectedly called out, âElva?â
A female voice purred, âSinclair, is that Elva, my cousin? Whatâs she doing here? Shouldnât she be at Uwhor University?â
Recognizing the voices, Elvaâs expression turned grim, her eyes flashing with hostility, and her grip on her knife and fork tightened, nearly crushing the foie gras on her plate.
Noticing this, Harlee paused, intrigued by Elvaâs reactionâthe first of its kind sheâd witnessed. Harlee subtly eyed the approaching man and woman, then discreetly took out her phone to snap a photo of them.
âFleming, whatâs going on with these two?â After typing, Harlee sent the secretly taken photo.
Harlee didnât expect an immediate reply from Fleming, so she placed her phone back on the table right after sending the message.
Beside Harlee, Rhys meticulously cut his steak, occasionally glancing over at the approaching couple before returning his focus to Harlee, feeding her a piece of steak now and then. He knew his wife enjoyed observing dramas unfold. Naturally, he complemented it with the appropriate âsnacks.â
Before the man and woman could even reach their table, Harlee received several messages from Fleming.

âThe man is Sinclair Happer. Thereâs been a childhood engagement between him and Elva, but theyâve had little contact. I donât know much about him.â
âElva only learned of the engagement last year when the elders brought it up. Iâm not certain what happened between them.â
âAll I know is Elva was quite upset after returning home last year and has since spent most of her time in the lab, avoiding home for two years.â
âIâve booked a flight and will arrive in Uwhor tonight. Harlee, please keep an eye on this man for me. Donât let him bother my future wife.â
With a subtle smile, Harlee calmly replied with an âOK.â
Sinclair looked visibly surprised at the sight of Elva. She had blacklisted all his and his familyâs contact methods, leaving no opportunity for peaceful discussions. He hadnât expected to encounter her abroad.
While Sinclair wasnât particularly drawn to Elva, he appreciated the potential advantages a marriage between the Patterson and Happer families could offer. Noticing Rhys leisurely cutting his steak, Sinclairâs expression shifted between surprise and excitementâhe clearly recognized Rhys.
âMr. Green? What a coincidence to see you here. And this lady must be your wife, right? Hi, Mrs. Green,â Sinclair greeted.
Rhys continued to serve steak to Harlee, who took a bite, crossed her legs, leaned back, and gave Sinclair an indifferent glance, making no move to speak. Rhys, for his part, didnât even acknowledge Sinclair.
Sinclair understood why they were behaving this way. He turned his gaze to Elva, hoping she might vouch for him.
He had a sudden surge of regret. If only he had known Elva was connected to such influential people, he would never have pressured the Patterson family to send Elva to his bed.
As Sinclair was deep in thought, he was abruptly snapped back to reality when the woman beside him spoke in a saccharine tone that seemed forced.
âOh, Elva, is that really you? For a moment there, Sinclair and I thought we had mistaken you for someone else! Didnât you tell your father you were busy with an experiment? What are you doing dining out during school hours?â
âAhâ¦â
With a dramatic gasp, she covered her mouth.
