Chapter 27:
Etta clenched her teeth in frustration.
Sensing Ettaâs resentful stare, Harlee looked up and met her eyes with a faint, mocking smile, finding amusement in how Etta had transformed into a green-eyed monster.
Snap! In a fit of anger, Etta finally broke her fork.
Her face flushed with embarrassment, convinced Harlee was mocking her earlier. She muttered foul words under her breath.
How Etta wished Harlee had vanished forever! Why did Harlee come back after over twenty years of futile search? She boiled with jealousy, hurling all sorts of vicious curses on Harlee silently.
While Harlee and her parents enjoyed their meal, Etta found no pleasure in hers.
After dinner, Harlee was led to her bedroom.
âMiss Sanderson, this room has always been reserved for you.
Finally, youâre back,â Frey said as he opened the door for her.
Harlee stepped inside and found the room large and bright, covering over a hundred square meters, complete with a bathroom and a walk-in closet. The decor matched her taste, embracing a minimalist style.
When she opened the closet, Harlee discovered it filled with clothes, ranging from baby sizes to outfits for her current age, all in excellent condition.
As her fingers brushed against the fabric, Harlee, who usually felt nothing, felt a wave of sentiment.
âSo, this is what this room looks like,â Ettaâs cold voice rang out at the doorway. She had sneakily followed them upstairs.

Ettaâs eyes roamed the room, her jealousy almost overwhelming her.
Before Harleeâs return, this very room had been closed off to everyone. Only Lonnie, Skyla, and their five sons had access.
Harlee paid Etta no mind and continued calmly organizing her things.
âYou must be really happy now, huh?â Ettaâs frustration boiled as Harlee continued to ignore her.
Etta marched over, grabbed Harleeâs backpack, and threw it to the floor like it was garbage.
Harlee stood still, her eyes first resting on the backpack lying on the floor, then drifting up to meet Ettaâs glare.
Ettaâs anger flared. She jabbed a finger in Harleeâs direction and shouted, âWhy did you come back? This home is better without you. Nobody wants you here! Youâre no different from the garbage around here. Just go.
Disappear for good.â
âThis home?â Harlee sneered, a mocking smile playing on her face.
âYouâre just the maidâs kid. Whether Iâm here or not, that doesnât change. This isnât your home.â
âThatâs not true!â Ettaâs voice cracked as her eyes filled with tears of fury. She yelled, âThatâs crap! Mr. and Mrs. Sanderson see me as their daughter!â
âAnd the Sanderson boys? They all treat me like Iâm family. Iâm the only little sister they have. This place will be mine one day, youâll see.â
Etta firmly believed that one day, the Sanderson family would finally accept her as one of their own.
