Chapter 37:

As no details about the identity of the mysterious and influential owner of the racetrack had ever surfaced, they knew better than to mess with someone so significant.

Having been warned against causing trouble before coming here, they fell silent as they recalled the scene they had just made.

Noticing their silence, the manager dropped the issue and walked over to Harlee to complete the task Rhys had assigned him.

“Miss Sanderson, the race is about to begin. Let me show you to your seat.”

At the manager’s respectful demeanor toward Harlee, Adelina and her group froze, their mouths dropping open in disbelief.

Phoebe was especially shocked, her hand flying to her mouth.

“She… She…” She was too stunned to say anything.

Adelina shouted, “Sir, you must be mistaken. She’s just a waitress here!”

“What waitress?” The manager looked displeased, his face stern.

“Miss Sanderson is our esteemed VIP with a black card membership.”

The manager’s words stunned Adelina and her group.

If they hadn’t recognized the manager, they might have thought it was just a joke.

Everyone knew that the racetrack had a membership system with different levels, which mirrored the social structure of the city. The levels ranged from Gold Card, Platinum Card, Diamond Card, to White Card, in ascending order. The Black Card, however, was never for sale. It was said that only five individuals in the entire city possessed a Black Card.

Adelina and her group never expected Harlee to be one of those five.

They were stunned, their mouths hanging open in disbelief.

The manager hardly glanced their way, let alone acknowledged their shocked faces.

His position meant he didn’t need to pay attention to regular guests.

Harlee met the manager’s polite smile with a nod.

Before she left with him, she shot a pointed look at Phoebe.

“Don’t forget what you just said.”

After speaking, Harlee glanced down at the broken glass on the floor, a subtle hint, before walking away.

Phoebe’s expression soured, as if she had tasted something unpleasant.

The commotion they had caused had already attracted a crowd, and naturally, everyone caught wind of what Phoebe had announced earlier.

A passerby couldn’t resist commenting, “Miss, you should keep your promises.

Everyone has heard what you said earlier. You can’t just act like nothing happened.”

None of the bystanders knew Harlee. They did nothing when Phoebe was picking on her.

But now that they realized Harlee held a Black Card membership, their attitude shifted. They figured that taking down Phoebe might impress Harlee.

Many joined in the uproar, leaving Phoebe embarrassed and trapped.

Her friends, who had been close to her, quietly backed away, eager to separate themselves from the scene.

Phoebe was so furious and nervous that she struggled to speak, glancing at Adelina for support. Phoebe thought she and Adelina were good friends, and that was part of the reason she had mocked Harlee earlier.
