Chapter 68:
âYou rascal!â Skyla playfully aimed a kick at Fletcher, who quickly sidestepped.
âWith Brenton around, thereâs nothing to worry about.â
Fletcher smirked.
âCan Brenton keep an eye on us all the time? Nobody can control us.â
Skyla felt a twinge of irritation at his boastfulness and led Harlee away.
âOur Harlee is so well-mannered. Just look at the trouble your brothers stir up!â
âNone of my sons puts my mind at ease! One of them always stirs trouble, one spends all day researching medicine in the lab, one is a terror on the streets, and one has Interpol hot on his trail!â Skyla declared, her voice thick with exasperation.
Then, her expression softened, and a gentle smile blossomed as she gazed at Harlee.
âBut you, my dear Harlee, youâre the gem of the family! Youâre gorgeous, compassionate, and a true sweetheart.â
Harlee offered a faint, restrained smile, holding back the truth to preserve Skylaâs illusion.
How could she reveal her secret? Interpol had her name on their dreaded blacklist.
As far as she knew, only three names were on that list. What a remarkable family lineage!
Later that evening, feeling a mix of relaxation and boredom, Harlee checked her WhatsApp after her bath to review the investment project files her team had forwarded.
Her thumb paused over a new post from Rhys. It was a photo taken at night, featuring the moon suspended in the ink-black sky, with the caption, â10 p.m., back home from work.â
Harleeâs mind drifted to Rhys mentioning that this was his personal account, with only Nathaniel and her as his contacts. She surmised Rhys had likely posted this to keep Nathaniel informed.

He truly was the picture of filial devotion.
Meanwhile, at the Green familyâs residence, Rhys sat on the edge of his bed, his heart fluttering with anticipation. Would Harlee notice his post? The whole car thing had been an excuse.
Deep down, he just wanted Harlee to get to know him better.
Just as Rhys was about to turn off his device, a glaring red notification caught his eye.
Curiosity piqued, he tapped on it, and his heart skipped a beat.
Harlee had actually liked his post! The realization that she had seen it ignited an overwhelming joy within him, fueling a resolve that became crystal clear.
He had to break off his engagement, and it couldnât wait.
The following morning, after breakfast, Brentonâs attention shifted to Harlee.
He leaned in slightly, his voice carrying a hint of invitation.
âJoin me for an outing today.â
Harlee met his gaze with composed indifference.
âIâve already made plans for todayâ¦â she began, but before she could politely decline further, Etta cut in, her eyes alight with eagerness.
âBrenton, where are you two heading? May I come along? It feels like forever since Iâve been out!â she exclaimed, seemingly unable to contain her curiosity.
From the corner of the room, Skyla laughed softly.
âHarleeâs still adjusting to our circles. Itâll be good for her to mingle a bit more.
Brenton, why donât you take Etta with you as well?â
