Chapter 692:
Clintâs heart swelled with emotion.
As he gazed up, he noticed the subtle signs of age in Lonnieâs faceâthe wrinkles, the graying hair.
âDad, weâre all going to be okay,â he assured softly.
Lonnie gave a noncommittal nod, patting Clintâs shoulder before turning to ascend the stairs. Skyla caught Lonnie at the base of the staircase, a playful smirk on her face.
âFeeling a bit nostalgic, are you? Coming to terms with the years catching up to you?â
Lonnie draped his arm around Skylaâs waist, his voice tinged with a mix of jest and sincerity.
âWell, watching Clint today reminded me just how old Iâve gotten.
But having you by my side? It feels like Iâm young all over again.â
Skylaâs light slap on his chest was accompanied by a coy chuckle.
âOh, come on.
Be serious for once.â
Elsewhere, Harlee settled into the passenger seat of Rhysâ car as they made their way back to Remson Manor. She appeared preoccupied, her brow creased with concern, her mind evidently elsewhere.
Rhys caught the hint of her troubled thoughts, yet he chose to remain silent during the drive, merely offering her a comforting smile. Once they were comfortably seated in the living room at Remson Manor, Rhys broke the silence.
âIâll handle Lindsayâs case.â
Harlee gave a slight nod, her face expressionless.

Rhys continued, his tone earnest.
âWilton and Belen barely recognized Lindsay when they saw her last.â
âThey feel sheâs become a stranger, and believe further visits would be futile. Theyâre putting their hopes in the correctional system to reform Lindsay. They wanted me to convey their apologies to you and your friend.â
A trace of relief seemed to lift Harleeâs spirits.
Gently pushing a stray lock of hair from her face, Rhys added soothingly, âThey never hold you responsible. On the contrary, theyâre thankful. They appreciate your efforts to give Lindsay a second chance for their sake.â
Harleeâs eyes sparkled with a renewed intensity.
âThey really understand everything?â
Rhys tenderly caressed Harleeâs hand, tilting his head with a soft grin.
âI know youâre uneasy, so Iâve already spoken to Wilton and Belen.â
Rhys understood how much family meant to Harlee and how she feared losing her connection with the Morgan household.
Although her concerns were completely justified, she worried that Wilton and Belen might resent her. Or worse, they might start drifting away because of Lindsay.
Harlee rested against his chest with a contented smile. She raised her face slightly and pressed a light kiss to the corner of his lips.
âYou really do understand me.â For such a long time, aside from Tonya, Rhys had been the only one who could read Harleeâs thoughts without her saying a word. The realization that this tall, striking man, who knew her so well, was hers filled Harlee with happiness.
