Chapter 837:
Hunger was a universal weakness, and as long as Harlee craved sustenance, Lindsay had a way to exploit her.
Lindsay held up a steaming bowl of fragrant noodles and waved it tantalizingly.
âHungry? Beg me, and I might share.â
Nyomi, pale from blood loss and struggling to stay conscious, turned her head with great difficulty to glare at Lindsay.
âMiss Morgan, let Miss Sanderson go.â
âOld hag! You still have the energy to talk, huh?â Lindsay sneered. Without hesitation, she pulled a dagger from her waist and drove it into Nyomiâs thigh.
Blood spattered from the wound, some of it landing in the noodles Lindsay held.
With cruel delight, she stirred the blood into the dish and sneered at Harlee.
âWhat do you think of the noodles now? Doesnât it smell even more delicious with this old hagâs blood?â
Harleeâs heart tightened as she watched Nyomiâs worsening state. It was clear that Nyomi was barely holding on.
Harlee suppressed her worry, knowing that showing concern might provoke Lindsay into even greater cruelty.
But she couldnât just do nothing. Nyomi wouldnât survive much longer without help.
Desperate, Harlee devised a distraction.
âLindsay, Iâm curiousâhow did you manage to convince Hale to help you?â

The question worked. Lindsay, intrigued and eager to gloat, turned her full attention away from Nyomi. She let out a dark, triumphant laugh, relishing her perceived brilliance.
âConvince Hale? Someone like him doesnât take orders from anyone!â Lindsayâs voice dripped with pride as she launched into a detailed explanation. She described how she had feigned surrender while secretly manipulating Hale to serve her purposes.
âAnyone who opposes me must face a miserable end! Harlee, once I take your life, Hale is next!â
Her expression twisted into sinister madness.
âHale actually drugged me with the Bloodthirstiness Pill! But Iâll make sure he experiences a fate worse than death!â
Harleeâs mind raced as she caught the critical detail.
Bloodthirstiness Pill?
It suddenly clicked for Harlee. So, Hale had access to such a destructive creation. That explained Lindsayâs sudden violent and erratic behaviorâher bloodlust, fury, and heightened aggression.
Harlee hadnât anticipated that a member of the pharmaceutical team she had dismantled years ago had managed to escape and continue their work in secret.
Abruptly, Lindsayâs face twisted into a deranged grin. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a small, white pill.
âYou deserve to endure the same agony I have!â
Lindsay lunged forward, attempting to force the pill into Harleeâs mouth.
âDie, Harlee! Just die!â
âStop!â A commanding voice thundered from behind, freezing Lindsay in her tracks. The pill slipped from her grasp, falling into the grass below.
