Chapter 988:
Realizing that Harlee had deliberately avoided meeting him, Rhys respected her decision and stayed away. Nonetheless, cautious of Anikaâs plotting, he feigned departure, slipped past Brentonâs assistant, and took up a hidden spot in the corner of the outdoor parking lot to keep a covert watch.
At Rhysâ question, the person on the other end of the line replied, âStill just eighty percent.â
Rhys tightened his fists, his expression sharp and unyielding, his voice low yet simmering with restrained fury.
âIâll grant you another month. I expect a full report on everything tied to Eugenia!â
âUnderstood!â
For the past three years, Rhys had masterfully leveraged his connection with Anika to maintain absolute control over her. Their recent intimacy, which Anika assumed was with him, had almost entirely secured her loyalty, yet Eugenia remained an elusive factor.
Rhys refrained from acting for two key reasons.
First, he needed to uncover Anikaâs true intentions. Second, Eugeniaâs unpredictability made any hasty move risky. Without complete certainty, he couldnât afford to proceed.
He feared that if even one of Eugeniaâs sidekicks slipped through his grasp, Harlee would remain in peril long after his death.
Rhys had been carefully tracking Harleeâs activities. Watching her continually thwart Anikaâs schemes and not granting Anika a chance to drug her reassured him, allowing him to continue to observe from the shadows.
Meanwhile, Anika struggled against Harleeâs firm grip on her neck, gasping for air as panic overtook her. She clawed at Harleeâs hands in desperation but couldnât break free.

Fearing she might suffocate if Harleeâs grip tightened any further, Anika reluctantly gave in. She released Harleeâs wrists and nodded with a look of reluctant submission.
Harlee eased her hold just enough for Anika to breathe but didnât fully let go.
Suddenly, Anika froze, her face betraying sheer disbelief.
Eugenia, who had once sworn never to return to Mogluylia, had appeared.
Dressed in a crimson slip dress under a sleek black leather jacket, her tall, slender frame commanded attention.
Her cinched waist emphasized her striking figure, and amidst the bustling crowd, she stood out like a mythical figure.
âMiss Sanderson, itâs been a while,â Eugenia addressed Harlee from a distance, her long lashes fluttering as she offered a warm smile.
âAnika is a dear friend. Please, Miss Sanderson, forgive her this once for my sake.â
Anikaâs eyes widened in shock.
Eugenia moved closer, using a subtle hand gesture only the two of them understood to calm Anika. Then, she turned back to Harlee with a polite smile.
âYou once said I could ask for anything as a favor. This is my request.â
Anika was dumbfounded. What was Eugenia talking about? What favor? What had happened in the past? How did Eugenia know Harlee? And what exactly was unfolding before her?
Anikaâs expression hardened. She hadnât anticipated Eugenia showing such deference to Harlee.
Could this mean the information sheâd gathered about Harlee had been incomplete?
Rhys was equally stunned to witness the unexpected familiarity between Eugenia and Harlee. None of his intelligence hinted at any ties between the two.
