After wearing the shoes, I stood up.
He quickly cupped my face.
I moved my face away and his kiss fell on my cheek.
"What the hell are you doing? Stay away!", I hissed at him as grand mom was sleeping.
I walked past him and went out.
He followed me and opened the car door of the front seat.
I went and opened the door of the back seat.
"I am not your driver. So sit in front.", he said.
"Why did you come to pick me up if you are not my driver?", I asked.
"Because I can! Now come and sit in the front.", he said.
Without minding his words, I was about to sit in the back seat itself.
He immediately scooped me up and made me sit in the front seat.
When I was about to get out, he said, "Sit in. Or else I will kiss you right here."
I cringed at the thought and sat back.
He sat next to me and bent over to put the seat belt. I pushed him away.
"I know to put the seat belt.", I said and did it when he was about to help.
"You are a quick learner.", he said and chuckled.
I didn't give away any expression. Instead I turned my face away. He started driving the car.
"Lara.", he said while he was driving.
I still didn't turn.
"I am sorry for that night.", he said.
How dare he talk about that night?
"Stop the car.", I said.
"Please let's talk.", he said.
"What do you want to talk? You want to give a description about how you tortured me that night for no reason?", I screamed.
"Sorry. I misunderstood you.", he said.
"You are the worst creature on the Earth.", I said.
He laughed loudly.
Is he mad?
"You don't know anything about the world.", he said.
"Oh really and how do you know that?", I asked.
His expression turned sad.
"Mom told me everything about you.", he said.
My heart sank.
"What did she tell?", I asked.
"About your past.", he said.
He continued saying, "She told me how you were caged in your own house, how you were deprived from education, how your step mom treated you..."
"That's enough. Just stop it!", I told.
He was shocked.
"So you are here because of sympathy. But remember one thing Luiz, I will never expect anything from you. Not even your sympathy.", I said with a lot of hatred towards him.
"It's not sympathy Lara. Its just that... I was shocked! I never knew there can be a person like this in the world who is caged! You never told me about your past.", he said.
"Why, had I would have told you before, you would have left me before itself?", I asked him.
"Gosh! Are you crazy? How is this related to that?", he asked irritated.
"Well yeah I am crazy! You have a huge sympathy towards me which I do not want.", I said.
"And that is the reason why you left home? Because you are crazy?", he asked.
"That is not my home. That is your home. I can't live in a home where I don't have self-respect! Even though I was tortured in life before, the pain you gave me by your words that night was much more horrible.", I said mumbling.
Tears were pricking from my eyes when memories of that night crossed my mind.
He sighed heavily.
"I am sorry. I really was out of my mind that time. It is just that I couldn't bear the thought of you being with someone else.", he said.
"Doesn't mean you have to behave like a monster.", I said.
"Lara please forgive me.", he said.
"I can never forgive you after what you did.", I said.
"Please.", he said.
He can't tolerate if I am with someone. Then what about Maryam?
"Maryam is alive.", I said.
"I will let you know everything when time comes.", he said.
"When did you come to know that she is alive?", I asked.
"She came after two days of you leaving the home.", he said.
She went home. After two years. They might be so uncontrollable! Hugging, kissing, caressing and making love to each other.
What am I thinking?
"Where was she for the last two years?", I asked.
"She didn't tell me anything clearly. She said that she was in Bora Bora. She might have undergone a lot. I thought I should give her some time.", he said.
Why is he here with me in spite of she being alive? They both love each other and I am nothing but an intruder in their relationship.
I was controlling my tears but I miserably failed at it. I turned my face away.
But a sob escaped my mouth and he noticed it.
"Shh don't cry. You cried a lot in your life. But no more crying now. Especially when I am in your life.", he said.
"Stay away from me. You already broke my heart. What else do you want?", I asked him in between my sobs.
"I want you!", he said, while wiping my tears.
"You got the love of your life. So there is no point in you having me in your life. So stop doing all this.", I said jerking his hand away with which he was wiping my tears.
"I know what I have to do in life. You need not tell me.", he said and parked the car.
"Get down.", he said.
I got down from the car and saw a very tall and a huge building. I lifted my head to see its height.
My god! If I stare at the building for two more minutes my neck will ache!
We went inside the elevator and Luiz stood just behind me.
He bent towards my neck and said, "How I wish we were alone for long time."
His words brought butterflies to my stomach. But then, sanity came back.
He is doing this to use me!
"Well I don't want you to eat me up again after your failed attempt.", I said irritatingly.
"Damn! Why do you talk about that night again and again?", he mumbled angrily.
I turned towards him. Our faces mere inches away.
"Because it is the most hurtful night of my life!", I said.
I saw hurt in his eyes.
The elevator door opened and I walked out.
He guided me towards the office and I saw Caroline sitting there.
She looked so elegant in formals!
"Welcome to Cardoso Corporations, Mrs. Lara Cardoso!", she got up and shook my hand.
Why is she being so formal?
"Just Lara. I don't want anybody's surname.", I said confidently.
"The choice is yours.", Caroline said after she lift her right eyebrow in question.
"Your identity will remain the same no matter with what name you work with. You are my wife!", Luiz said.
"Until we divorce!", I said.
