Tutorial 55th Floor (2)
âYes, thanks to you, Iâm resting well.â
The old butlerâs face glowed when he heard my answer.
âThank God. If you have time in the evening, the lord has requested to have a meal together.â
âOh, thatâs a bit tough. Iâm still tired, so I want to rest more.â
âYes, then I will tell him,â The old butler said, trying his best to mask his disappointment.
âThen tomorrow...â The butler attempted again.
âNo.â
âOh, alright...â
There was no sign of disappointment, but I could sense his tenacity.
âWell, Iâll see you again at lunchtime.â
âAre you going?â
The butler and other servants had prepared a rather sumptuous breakfast, so it was a shame and a bit embarrassing to eat the food alone.
After staring at other people who were eating, I gently suggested that we all eat together, and they gladly agreed.
During mealtime, I became increasingly familiar with the butlerâs mentality. He was a gentle, calm man, possibly because his task was to serve other people. Above all, he provided detailed explanations of the culture and knowledge of the surrounding area.
If possible, Iâd like the old butler in my room all day.
âYes, there are things we need to prepare. If you have urgent business, please call us.â
When he sensed my hesitation, the butler handed me a small cube-shaped object from his pocket.
âItâs a calling machine. When you press the red button here, youâll be able to get in touch with me, and Iâll respond as soon as I can.â
The surprisingness of the object didnât result from its performance, but its unusually compact size and small weight.
It was so light that it seemed as though there was nothing in it; it was no bigger than a finger, and it seemed like it would be easily lost.
âCan I press it once?â
The butler nodded in response.
When I pressed the red button, a similar button within the butlerâs clothes began to vibrate; it was like a pager. The only difference was that numbers could not be sent.
âAre there other buttons connected to this pager?â
âYes, and youâll know who called you by the positioning of the button. The button thatâs vibrating right now is the second one from above. We all have a fixed location.â
âWho does the first button belong to?â
âSung-Joo.â
This was fun. The staff who cleaned the castle and the soldiers around Seongju all wore buttons, so Iâd thought it was merely a fashion statement here, but it served for practical reasons.
âDo you need anything else?â the butler asked before leaving the room.
There was one thing I needed. âI want to learn magic here. Is that possible?â
Magic was a closed practice in any world, and in some cases, sharing knowledge and trying to purchase magical artifacts were considered taboo.
âAre you interested in Mado Engineering?â
âYes, will it be okay?â
Was it not magic, but engineering? I became curious.
âYes, of course. We have a variety of curriculums. Do you want a detailed guide on each curriculum?â
âJust give me one thatâs beginner-oriented.â
I didnât know the content or organization of the curriculum, and it was likely that I wouldnât understand it.
If possible, itâd be best to learn the basics first.
During the break, I wanted to learn as much as possible, but there was a possibility that I wouldnât be able to get anything from being greedy.
âThen Iâll see you again at lunchtime.â Before the butler left the room, he said his farewells once more, and in response, I returned the gesture.
âKee-ek!â
When I said bye, the frog, who had been sitting quietly in the corner, began to follow me. The butler politely said farewell to not only me but also the frog before he left the room. After his departure, the room became eerily quiet.
Although several servants remained in the room, they worked quietly, not daring to make a sound. It seemed that even though we shared a meal, our relationship didnât become any more intimate.
âFrog.â
âKee-ek!â
âWould you like to come in?â I asked while raising my hand, showing the taming ring Iâd received from Kim Min-hyuk.
The best aspect of the ring was that it was able to form subpoenas with others, allowing me to summon them whenever I wished.
It created a sub-dimensional space of the summonedâs most desired environment. For a frog, itâd be more comfortable to rest in the sub-dimensional space rather than this room.
âKea-ek!â
âOkay. Just stay here, then,â I exasperatedly told the frog, and laid back in bed.
As the bed applied magical effects to my body, I quickly slipped into a deep slumber. It wasnât long before I had to wake up, but the exhaustion that weighed down my body made me want to continue to sleep.
Getting out of the bed proved to be a more difficult challenge than Iâd expected.
[What are you going to do?] asked Seregia.
âI told you Iâm taking a break.ân/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Seregia didnât respond to my answer, but its silence didnât mean approval; it meant that it expected a more detailed explanation.
âIâll be learning magic when the time comes. Oh, letâs go outside and look around from tomorrow. This is a pretty unique place.â
The characteristics of the area that I saw when I first entered the stage were unusual.
I wanted to see how it truly was with my own eyes.
