I stand up too, because I have no idea what's happening but I don't want to be caught sitting down either. Just in case. I turn my head in the direction everybody is looking at to see an older version of Kaden and Dylan followed by men in white.
Almost instantly, I know who this is.
Richard Arrow.
Ha. Is it time to panic yet? This is the same man that ordered bullets to be fired at us while driving just because Adrian broke up with Ava.
Are we going to die now because Adrian killed Ava? Probably, but I keep quiet as Richard Arrow approaches his two sons. He was wearing a formal red suit and a white shirt underneath matched with red pants. A few years younger and all the girls would be swooning over him.
"Dad," Kaden greets, his face expressionless. I'm surprised Dylan has mastered it too.
"What is this I hear?" Richard Arrow's voice is so cold, I don't think Antarctica is the coldest place on Earth anymore. "Dylan is going to be a father?"
The same fear returns to Dylan's eyes and he swallows, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down. "We don't know," He replies, his voice just slightly choked up.
"What happened?" He pushes on, completely oblivious to the fact that Dylan doesn't want to talk about it. Or he's just ignoring it. You can never know with these mafia people.
Kaden, however, maintains a straight face. "Ava drugged Luna. She was close to dying from drug abuse. They're taking the baby out..." I think Kaden slightly squirmed when talking about birth, but you could have never guessed. "There's a chance both mother and son survive."
"Son?" I think I saw a loving glint in Richard Arrow's eyes. "Where is Ava?"
"Dead," Kaden states. "Adrian shot her."
"Adrian Black?" He barely cocks his eyebrow. I'm sure when he was younger, girls would have died if he did that. "You're working together now?"
"Only for Bailey." Oh, why, I didn't know I was so important. Fans face dramatically.
"Bailey? What mafia is she from?"
"She's not from a mafia. She's just a girl."
Just... Just a girl?! I'm going to show him what 'just a girl' can do!
"Who's an eternally praiseworthy woman that I would take a bullet for."
I just cancelled my previous plans.
"Is she here?"
Kaden looks at me, and Richard Arrow spins around and strides towards me. If he was younger, I would have definitely drooled over him. Ew, Bailey, listen to yourself!
Why is he so tall? I lift my head up so I can meet his eye. They're money green. Not emerald green like Adrian's. "I don't see what's so special about you," He declares. "But, if Kaden respects you, I supposed I do too. A little." He had a way of saying it that made it sound like he could care less if a dinosaur just devoured me and flew away on top of a unicorn. I just smile at him, which he doesn't return. Damn.
Then he turns towards Adrian. "I still don't like you," He tells him. "But, you saved my future grandson. I'm not expressing my gratitude. We're even."
Adrian simply nods. Just then, one more person arrives. She has dark eyes and brown hair, which causes me to get confused as to who she is. "Dylan! Kaden! My babies," She starts, rushing over to Dylan and embracing him in a tight hug. Then she does the same to Kaden. "You never told me Luna was in the hospital. Is she okay? She better be okay or I'll make sure to set this hospital on fire!"
Whoa. I think I like this woman.
"Spitfi- Bella. What are you doing here?" Richard Arrow asks. Was that... was that sadness I sensed in his voice?
"What do you mean?" She snaps. "I'm here for Luna and her son. I'm going to be a grandmother you know."
"Well, me too. Grandfather, I mean. Not grandmother."
"You? You look anything but grandfatherly. You always have a stick up your ass," She growls at him.
"I can pull it off."
"You look like a crab in whatever you're wearing. You're most certainly not pulling that off," She insults him. What am I even watching right now? "But I'm not here to insult you. I'm here for Luna. I want you a good distance away from me. I'll get cold if you're near me."
Just like that, the atmosphere was tense again. Twenty minutes later, the doctor comes out of the room, looking slightly queasy. Oh fucking hell, no. If anything bad happens, I don't know what I'll do.
The doctor clears her throat, intimidated by the amount of powerful people in this room. "Good news. Both Luna and the baby are alive." A flood of relief rushes through me, and I lean against Adrian with a sigh. Everyone looks relieved.
"Bad news. This was a premature birth. The baby has an extremely low birthweight and is suffering from withdrawal symptoms, especially since the mother was on drugs. Luckily, the drugs haven't affected the baby too much. Since it was premature birth, we'll have to keep the baby in the hospital for longer. It's quite early to determine if the child will have any long term effects, like chronic illnesses but we should know from a while from now."
Everyone tenses up again. "But there's no reason to worry. The child will not die and neither will the mother. You can see the baby, but you are not allowed to hold him until permitted to do so a while from now."
As if on cue, Luna's parents make an entrance. "Is the baby okay? Is my daughter okay? Is anybody okay?" Mrs. Cheng clucks, clearly worried. "I need to see the baby."
Dylan was already entering the room to see the baby, followed by Kaden and Richard Arrow, Bella right on their tail. "Too many people!" The doctor shouts. "After these four are out the next four can go in."
I groan, before taking a seat on the chair. Adrian was furiously typing on his phone, which is a rare sight. He frowns at his phone, before typing again.
A couple of minutes later, Dylan comes out. "My baby was so small. It barely looked like it weighed a pound," He breathed. "The head was so big... And he began to shake. Fuck, Bailey."
"At least he's alive," I offer him a reassuring smile. "He'll be okay and soon, he'll be running around like a normal baby."
"Normal babies don't run around."
"Look at you! Learning already. Don't worry, Dylan. The baby will be fine. How's Luna?"
"She's sleeping," He informs me as I walk into Luna's room. My eyes first land on the baby which has its eyes closed. Dylan was right. The head is way too large for its body, but that's a normal result of premature births.
Then my eyes shift to Luna, who looks very tired. Even in her sleep. She didn't have to go through that. At all. She didn't deserve to go through all that. Neither did her son.
For a moment, I felt proud. They both survived, they both fought and survived.
Who knew that a random girl we met at the mall would suddenly become such a huge part of us? I found myself smiling, because everything was better. Both Luna and her son will live.
Now I realize.
This baby will be showered with so much love, he'll be more spoiled than Dylan.
"Welcome to this world," I tell the baby, not that he would understand or anything.
"Talking to babies now, are we?" Adrian's voice asks. "I am extremely in love with you but I want you to prove your unreasonable love for me through tests. Oh, and don't mistake words for another."
He got the sentence right. I'm gravely impressed. "Now I have a headache," He pouts. "Why don't you kiss me to make me feel better?"
