"Come in," I said and I see Henry come in my bedroom
"Leave us," He says to my maids, who just bow their heads and leave at once
"I would applaud you for getting an invitation from the queen but that is just your obligation as my wife," He tells me taking a seat in one of the nearby chairs
" Of course just my obligation," I said as I took a seat on my bed facing him
"I have heard you have been quite busy lately taking care of some strays back at home" He tells me
Of course, I shouldn't be surprised he knew of this already
In my home, there are not that many servants, it is only 50 in total
They all have my full trust
But about a year ago I did have a visitor from the main estate, it was Henry's secretary as I needed to approve certain paperwork
He did see the children and I was not going to be hiding them
"Yes, I decided to adopt 5 children from the orphanage," I said, bracing myself for whatever might happen
" And by whom's authority?" He asked
" By my own" I replied
"Take them back immediately, I will not have my money be used on trash," He said standing up as if the conversation was over
"I won't, those are children are mine ------"
"--- I didn't ask for your opinion," He hastily replied as he grabbed me by my throat
" What are you going to do kill me," I said as I tried to pry his hands off me
"Hahaha, you think I can't do that and take on another wife" He replied
" I know you can't, I left a letter behind to be mailed in case I did not make it back home. A letter showcasing in detail how you embezzled money during your time at war" I said as he finally took his hands off me
"The hell are you talking about" He yelled at me
During our marriage, I later had discovered he had been embezzling money from the war by ordering more supplies than what were needed
This, later on, came out to the public but Henry decided to put the blame on my family
He had implanted the documents in my family's office
During my week here I looked around for those documents and found them
I sent them to my family's house, my own house, and a close friend of mine in case anything did happen to me
"I know you have been requesting more supplies than needed and selling them to our enemies, I have the documents and so do others. If something were to happen to me or my children those documents will be taken straight to the king." I replied taking a couple steps back from him
" How could I possibly believe a word out of your filthy mouth" He replied back coming towards me
"Here," I said as I handed him over the documents I got showing that what I said were true
"I only ask for ----"
"---- You have no right to ask for anything," He said as I feel his hand slap me across my face
" I only ask to be left in peace with my children, unless you want the king to know about this," I said holding back my tears and holding on to my cheek which begins to sting
"LEAVE NOW" Henry yells at me as he leaves my bedroom
I go to sit down and take a couple of deep breaths
Soon Lucy comes running in
"Evelin are you okay?" She asks coming to sit by me
"Yes, I will be returning back home immediately, Henry already knew about the children and it did not go well," I said I begin to feel my hands shake remembering his anger
"I know that's why I came in, the master told to prepare a carriage at once, that you would be returning back home," She said as she notices the bruise on my cheek
" Yes but first get me a pen and paper I need to leave Henry a letter that you will give to him tomorrow morning. It's important that you inform me about his reaction or if he sends over a reply" I tell her
"Of course, I will also bring over a cold cloth to help with the bruise and hopefully reduce the swelling." She says leaving the room
She returns quickly and I hurriedly write down everything I need to tell Henry
Lucy meanwhile packs my belongings and soon I am off in the carriage
Only here do I begin to cry
Henry was always a violent person when he discovered I could not get pregnant, I was harshly punished
But things somehow turned out better than I thought
Getting only a slap on the face was worth it
Henry can't touch me for a while
But I need to see my family and get their support
But at least I will get to see my children tomorrow morning
I fell asleep and when I woke up the carriage was arriving at my house
