The entire mansion was practically glowing. Every room, every hallway, and even the backyard had been transformed into something straight out of a fairytale. The golden chandeliers hung like shimmering jewels from the ceiling, their light casting a soft, warm glow over the luxurious roses that adorned every corner of the space.

I stepped into the living room and couldn't help but stare at the sheer elegance of it all. The flowers-white, red, and blush pink-were perfectly arranged in every nook and cranny, like a picture taken straight out of a dream. The rose petals were scattered in soft trails, leading to the garden, where the flowers bloomed in wild, colorful splendor.

Tomorrow was the wedding.

Tomorrow was the day everything would change.

I couldn't help but feel a strange nervous excitement in the air, even as I walked through the lavishly decorated halls. It was like every corner held something new, something both beautiful and terrifying.

The mansion was alive, its walls almost whispering the promise of what was to come. I took in the sight of the sparkling chandeliers, their gold glimmering with every movement, and then the flowers. So many flowers-roses, lilies, and orchids. They lined the marble floors, in towering vases that were scattered like they belonged to royalty.

In the garden outside, the flowers had been carefully tended to-blooming in a perfect, natural chaos. The whole place looked like a fairy tale-I could almost picture the soft whispers of magic filling the air.

But no matter how beautiful it all was, I couldn't ignore the weight of what was coming tomorrow. This wasn't just some dreamy wedding. This was my wedding, the one I never asked for, the one I couldn't escape.

And no matter how stunning the place was, I couldn't forget who I was marrying.

Adolph.

My mind swirled with a mix of emotions. Every step I took in the garden made me feel more trapped, yet oddly compelled. The flowers seemed to stare back at me, their petals fluttering as though they knew my thoughts. There was something magical about the way everything was arranged, but it felt like a cage-a beautiful, gilded cage.

Tomorrow, everything changes.

Just then, Pranav burst into the mansion, grinning like an overgrown child who had just been given unlimited candy. His eyes sparkled with excitement, and he practically skipped across the luxurious marble floor, completely ignoring the elegance of the wedding decorations surrounding him.

I barely had time to react before he flung himself onto the couch, sighing dramatically as if he had just run a marathon.

"Tomorrow!" he gasped, clutching his chest for effect. "Tomorrow, Neti! You know what happens tomorrow?"

I stared at him, already regretting whatever was about to come out of his mouth. "What?" I muttered.

He grinned so widely that I was sure his face would split in half.

"Tomorrow, I can officially call you Bhabhi!"

I froze.

"Bhabhi! Bhabhi! Bhabhi Neti!" he started chanting, kicking his legs like a child on a sugar rush.

I groaned, rubbing my temples. "Pranav-"

"Say it! Say you're gonna be my Bhabhi!" He poked my arm, eyes twinkling with pure mischief.

"I will not say that."

"Bhabhi, Bhabhi, Bhabhi!-"

"I swear I will throw you out of the window."

Pranav gasped dramatically, placing a hand on his chest. "Such violence before the wedding? Is this what marriage does to people?"

I grabbed a pillow and launched it straight at his smug face, but he ducked, laughing like a maniac.

Then, he sat up straight, suddenly looking dead serious. "Wait. WAIT." He gasped again, gripping my wrist.

I stared at him, confused. "What?"

He leaned closer, whispering dramatically, "Does that mean... I have to start calling Adolph 'Bhai' now?"

I blinked.

The thought of Adolph's face if Pranav actually called him "Bhai" was so ridiculous that I almost choked.

Pranav, however, was completely horrified at his own realization. He sat back, clutching his head like he had just uncovered a world-ending secret.

"Oh, God," he muttered. "This is bad. This is so bad. I can't-I CAN'T call him Bhai. That's just unnatural. It feels wrong. Like pineapple on pizza. Like-like boba tea with chicken!"

I burst out laughing, while Pranav groaned into his hands, shaking his head. "Maybe I should just call him Adolph Sir."

"Like one of his bodyguards?" I teased.

He sighed deeply. "I guess there's no choice. I'll just have to pretend I never had this realization and never say it out loud."

I smirked. "Oh, you will slip up."

Pranav gasped again, pointing a finger at me. "And when I do, YOU will be held responsible."

I just rolled my eyes, shaking my head. Tomorrow was definitely going to be interesting.

Eliza walked in, her usual composed expression replaced with something that screamed stress. She held a long list in her hands, flipping through it with a sigh.

"Alright," she started, glancing at me. "These are the guests coming tomorrow."

I reached for the list, but before I could even take a look-

Pranav snatched it.

"Let's see, let's see!" He squealed like a child getting an invitation to his favorite amusement park.

I just crossed my arms, already regretting his presence here.

As he skimmed through the names, his eyes widened, and he gasped dramatically. "Oh, my God, Neti! There are so many important people coming!"

"I figured," I muttered. "Adolph wouldn't invite normal people."

"But look at this!" He pointed at the list, practically bouncing in place. "Mafias! Businessmen! Aliya! And-oh, wow. Your family."

The second those words left his mouth, my smile dropped.

My so-called family. The ones who had sold me to Adolph like I was some kind of prized cattle for twenty million dollars.

My fists clenched, and I snatched the list from Pranav's hands, scanning the names. Sure enough, there they were. My father, mother, and my so-called relatives.

I exhaled sharply, the anger bubbling inside me. "Why the hell would they even come?" I muttered.

Eliza, ever the professional, cleared her throat. "Because Adolph invited them."

I let out a humorless laugh. "Of course, he did."

Before I could spiral further, Pranav threw an arm over my shoulder, grinning way too much for the situation.

"Come on, Neti! This is great news!"

I slowly turned to him, narrowing my eyes. "How, exactly?"

"Because," he wiggled his eyebrows, "I get to see some drama live."

I let out an exasperated sigh, but Pranav was unbothered, now bouncing like a child again.

"I swear, this is better than any reality show! I mean, we have all the elements-forced marriage, betrayal, mafia, tension, drama, a grumpy bride, and a ridiculously handsome best man."

I stared at him. "Ridiculously handsome?"

He winked, flipping his imaginary hair. "Obviously, I meant myself."

I rolled my eyes and turned back to Eliza, who was failing to suppress a laugh.

Meanwhile, Pranav continued rambling.

"I can't wait to see your father's face when you don't run into his arms like a helpless daughter," he said, grinning like an idiot. "He's probably expecting tears. Maybe even a 'Oh, Papa, I missed you!' moment. And instead, he's gonna get the coldest, most iconic 'Screw you' expression ever."

Okay, I was looking forward to that.

Pranav kept going, now pacing around the room.

"And then there's your mother. Will she fake tears? Will she pretend she regrets everything? Will she try to guilt-trip you into hugging her?"

He gasped, stopping in his tracks. "Oh, what if she faints dramatically?! Like those ladies in soap operas?"

I let out a small snort, despite myself. "If she does, I'm stepping over her."

Pranav clapped his hands together, beaming. "I knew I liked you for a reason."

Eliza sighed, shaking her head at our antics. "You two are impossible."

"I know, right?" Pranav said proudly, before suddenly freezing. His grin widened, and he turned to me, wiggling his eyebrows.

"Oh my God, Neti," he said, his voice dripping with amusement. "What if your family asks you for money?"

That made me pause.

Pranav grinned even wider.

"Oh, it's gonna happen. I can feel it in my soul. The moment they realize you're marrying a ridiculously rich mafia boss, they're gonna be like-" He suddenly put on a fake dramatic voice, clutching his chest.

"Oh, darling daughter, we are so sorry! We were just under a spell! We didn't mean to sell you!"

I snorted at his terrible acting.

Then, he dropped to his knees, pretending to sob dramatically.

"We're struggling, my child! Can't you spare us a few million? Just a tiny one? We are your family!"

By now, Eliza was wheezing with laughter, and I had to bite my lip to stop myself from laughing too.

Pranav, seeing his perfect comedic timing, stood up, brushing imaginary dust off his sleeves.

"And that, my dear, is why tomorrow will be legendary."

I sighed, shaking my head. Tomorrow was going to be a nightmare.

But at least, with Pranav around, it might be a funny one.

I crossed my arms, smirking. "You know, Pranav... if you're so excited about this wedding, maybe Aliya should be the flower girl."

Silence.

Eliza choked on air.

Pranav, who had been dramatically twirling around like some TV host, froze mid-spin. His grin vanished. His soul left his body.

I grinned wider. "I can already imagine it. Aliya, walking down the aisle, throwing flower petals with her usual grumpy face."

Pranav gasped, placing a hand over his chest. "How dare you?"

I shrugged, unbothered. "It's a solid idea."

"I- No." He shook his head aggressively. "Do you want me dead? Do you know what she'd do if I even suggested that?"

I raised an eyebrow. "Run you over with a car?"

Pranav pointed at me. "Exactly."

Eliza, laughing way too much now, added, "Honestly, I'd pay good money to see that."

Pranav's jaw dropped. "You people are cruel."

"Oh, come on," I said, grinning mischievously. "Imagine her, tiny basket in hand, deadpan expression, aggressively throwing flower petals at people's faces."

Pranav groaned, running a hand down his face. "She wouldn't even throw them properly! She'd just chuck them like shuriken."

I nodded seriously. "Adds to the excitement."

Eliza wiped a tear, laughing. "I mean, we're mafia. A little danger in the ceremony makes sense."

Pranav pointed at both of us, betrayed. "I expected this from her-" he jabbed a finger toward me, "-but you, Eliza? I thought we were friends."

She grinned. "We are. That's why I want front-row seats to your funeral."

Pranav gasped dramatically. "I am surrounded by monsters."

I smirked, leaning back. "So, should I tell Adolph to arrange a dress for her?"

Pranav held up a finger. "If you even whisper this idea to Aliya, I will personally tell Adolph every embarrassing thing you've ever done."

I narrowed my eyes. "You wouldn't dare."

Pranav grinned evilly. "Try me."

I squinted at him. He squinted back.

Eliza watched the two of us, sipping her tea like this was the best entertainment of her life.

Then, I sighed, rolling my eyes. "Fine. Aliya is safe... for now."

Pranav exhaled in relief. "Good. Now, let's focus on important matters-like me getting to call you 'Bhabhi' in less than 24 hours."

I groaned. This wedding was going to be a circus.

I crossed my arms, smirking. "You know, Pranav... if you're so excited about this wedding, maybe Aliya should be the flower girl."

Pranav exhaled in relief. "Good. Now, let's focus on important matters-like me getting to call you 'Bhabhi' in less than 24 hours."

I groaned. This wedding was going to be a circus.

Just as I was about to shove Pranav off his high horse, my mind clicked.

The wedding planner.

Her settings.

The "special preparations."

My eyes widened. I whipped my head toward Pranav, who was still grinning like an overexcited child.

He noticed my expression and paused. "...What?"

I slowly turned to Eliza. "The planner. She was talking about the wedding night."

Eliza's face dropped. "Oh."

Pranav blinked, still not getting it. "Yeah? What about it? She was doing her job."

I inhaled sharply, gripping the edge of the couch. "You-you were literally there, Pranav! She asked about settings, candles, music, the freaking bed!"

Pranav's grin disappeared.

A slow realization dawned on him.

His jaw dropped. "Wait. WAIT." He gasped, clutching his chest. "THOSE WERE FOR YOUR-"

I slapped a hand over his mouth.

"Shut. Up." I hissed, looking around like someone might be listening.

Pranav, wide-eyed, ripped my hand away. "OH MY GOD." He dramatically flopped onto the couch, looking betrayed. "I-I sat there. I listened. I even nodded in agreement!"

I groaned. "I know."

He gasped again, louder this time. "I EVEN HELPED CHOOSE THE SCENTED CANDLES!"

Eliza snorted, covering her mouth.

Pranav shook his head violently. "NO. NO, NO, NO. I refuse. I take it back." He grabbed my shoulders, looking horrified. "We need to cancel everything. Delete the settings. Burn the decorations."

I rolled my eyes, shoving him off. "Too late."

Pranav gasped yet again. "NO." He pointed a shaky finger at me. "Adolph knows?"

I sighed. "He was there."

Pranav's soul left his body. "And he-"

I nodded grimly. "He encouraged it."

Pranav collapsed on the couch, whispering to himself. "I was an accomplice. I-I aided and abetted. I was a-a witness."

Eliza, laughing way too much now, patted his shoulder. "It's okay, buddy."

Pranav dramatically clutched his chest. "No. It's not. I-I practically helped plan my own bhabhi's-"

I threw a pillow at his face before he could finish that sentence.

Pranav yelped, muffled under the pillow.

Eliza howled in laughter.

And I? I was seriously reconsidering my life choices.

Pranav and I stood outside Adolph's bedroom door.

The forbidden door.

The place where the "special arrangements" were made.

I turned to Pranav. "Are you sure about this?"

Pranav nodded way too quickly. "We need to know, bhabhi. For our mental well-being."

I sighed. "Fine."

We slowly pushed the door open.

It was dark. Quiet. Too suspiciously calm.

And then...

We stepped inside.

And froze.

I choked on air.

Pranav gasped so loudly, I thought he might pass out.

Because in front of us was-

A BED.

But not just any bed.

It was decorated. Set up.

Candles everywhere. Roses. Some weird, soft music playing on loop.

The sheets were silk. Gold-trimmed. There were freaking flower petals arranged in the shape of a heart.

A. Heart.

Pranav grabbed my hand like he was about to faint. "What. The. Hell. Is. This."

I couldn't breathe. "This is-" I pointed a trembling finger at the bed. "-this is what we planned."

Pranav gasped. "I DIDN'T KNOW IT WOULD LOOK LIKE THIS!"

I grabbed his collar. "You picked those candles!"

Pranav gasped again. "YOU PICKED THE MUSIC!"

We both stared at each other.

Then back at the bed.

Then back at each other.

And at the same time, we both bolted for the door.

"NOPE. NOPE. NOPE."

Pranav yanked the door open, and we scrambled out like we had seen a ghost.

I shut the door behind us, panting. "We were never here."

Pranav, shaking like a traumatized puppy, nodded furiously. "Never. Here."

Then, just when we thought we were safe-

A deep voice came from behind us.

"What are you two doing?"

We jumped.

Adolph.

Standing there, arms crossed, one brow raised.

Pranav and I looked at each other, panic rising.

Then Pranav, the absolute traitor, pointed straight at me.

"Bhabhi wanted to see the decorations!"

I slapped the back of his head. "YOU WANTED TO SEE THEM TOO!"

Adolph's smirk grew.

Pranav and I froze.

Oh no.

We just dug our own graves.

Adolph took a slow, deliberate step forward, his smirk widening.

Pranav and I instinctively stepped back.

"So..." His deep voice was way too amused. "You two sneaked into my room to check out the..." His eyes flickered toward the door behind us, then back at us, his smirk downright devilish now. "...special arrangements?"

Pranav panicked first. "NO. NOT AT ALL. NEVER. WHY WOULD WE? HAHAHA."

Worst. Liar. Ever.

Adolph tilted his head, eyes locked on me now. "And you?"

I gulped. "Uhh... curiosity? But! BUT! NOT THAT KIND OF CURIOSITY!" I waved my hands around dramatically. "I mean, just, like, innocent curiosity! Pure curiosity! Holy, saint-like curiosity!"

Adolph chuckled low and deep. "Saint-like, huh?"

I immediately regretted my words.

Pranav, the betrayer, pointed at me again. "Bhabhi wanted to check if you had... uh... taste."

I slapped his arm. "YOU WANTED TO CHECK TOO!"

Adolph's smirk turned downright evil. "Well?" He crossed his arms. "Did I pass?"

Pranav and I stood completely frozen.

How do we answer that?!

If we say yes, he'll tease us for life.

If we say no, we'd be questioning his "abilities," and I did not want to deal with an offended Adolph.

I decided to play dumb. "Pass what?"

Pranav nodded aggressively. "Yeah, what? We don't even know what we saw! Who are we? Where are we? What year is this?"

Adolph just sighed, shaking his head. "Idiots." Then, with an evil glint in his eyes, he turned to me.

Oh no.

I knew that look.

"Since you were so interested," he mused, stepping closer, "I can give you a tour of our wedding night preparations."

"NO THANKS." I tried to bolt, but he grabbed my wrist.

Pranav was already running for his life. "I HAVE SEEN TOO MUCH. I NEED HOLY WATER."

"HEY, TRAITOR!" I yelled after him, but he was gone.

Now, it was just me and Adolph.

Still smirking, he leaned down, his breath warm against my ear. "You're not getting away so easily, princess."

I regretted everything.

I froze.

Adolph was too close. Way too close.

"Uhh..." I cleared my throat, attempting to inch away. "You know, curiosity is a bad thing. Didn't they say that curiosity killed the cat? I'd rather be a very safe, uncurious cat."

Adolph chuckled darkly. "Good thing I like curiosity."

I gulped. Oh no.

He tilted his head toward the door I had regretted opening. "Why don't we take another look together?"

"I REFUSE." I tried to yank my wrist free, but he held firm.

His voice turned mocking. "But princess, didn't you come here to check if I had 'taste'?"

I glared at the empty space where Pranav once stood. That betrayer really abandoned me.

"Okay, okay," I tried reasoning. "I was just making sure... that everything was... appropriate!"

Adolph laughed. "Appropriate?" His grip loosened just enough for me to pull away.

I immediately took three giant steps back. "Yes! Like... is it suitable for a wedding? Does it have a holy atmosphere? Is it... um... spiritually pure?"

Adolph raised a brow, amusement dancing in his eyes. "Spiritual purity? In a honeymoon suite?"

I choked on air. "I- I meant like, uh, decent! Yes, decent! No unnecessary decorations! No weird placements! No-"

Adolph stalked toward me, cutting off my escape route.

I panicked. "WAIT! I AM INNOCENT! I AM A SAINT! I AM HOLY! I AM-"

He grabbed my chin, tilting my face up to meet his gaze.

My brain short-circuited.

"You talk too much," he murmured, his thumb brushing my lower lip.

I forgot how to function.

"I should punish you for sneaking into my room," he added, his smirk wicked. "But..." His gaze dropped to my lips. "Maybe I'll be nice tonight."

Tonight?! What does that mean?!

My brain screamed at me to run.

But my body? Frozen.

Then-

BAM!

The door slammed open.

PRANAV.

Holding a plate of fries.

"I FORGOT MY FRIES!" he announced dramatically, completely ruining the moment.

Adolph closed his eyes and exhaled sharply. "Get. Out."

Pranav stared at us, then at my red face. His eyes widened. "Ohhhh. Did I just-?"

Adolph was seconds away from murder.

Pranav held up his fries in defense. "Listen, man, these were expensive! I wasn't going to waste them!"

I threw a pillow at him. "GET OUT!"

Pranav, dodging the pillow like an action hero, dramatically yelled, "I WILL REMEMBER THIS BETRAYAL!" before running away with his fries.

Adolph sighed, rubbing his temples. "Unbelievable."

I, still red, pointed at the door. "You should go too."

He raised an eyebrow. "Why?"

"Because I need to recover my dignity!"

Adolph chuckled. "That's long gone, princess."

And with a final smirk, he left.

I collapsed onto the bed, covering my face with a pillow.

I AM NEVER SNEAKING INTO HIS ROOM AGAIN.

I rushed into my room, slamming the door shut behind me like a fugitive on the run.

Breathe, Neti. Breathe.

The memory of Adolph's smirk and Pranav's dramatic fries rescue mission haunted me. I had lost my dignity today.

But before I could curl up and mourn my life choices...

"Mademoiselle! You are finally here!"

I jumped.

Standing in the center of my room was a tall, elegant French woman, dressed in the most luxurious silk attire, her hair styled to perfection. Surrounding her were two other maids, holding trays filled with beauty products, hair accessories, and what looked like... weapons of torture.

I blinked. "Uhh... Who are you?"

The woman placed a hand on her chest, looking offended. "I am Madame Vivienne! The one responsible for making you look like the goddess you are meant to be!"

Oh no.

Oh no no no.

I had completely forgotten.

Tonight was my engagement party.

I groaned. Why did my life have to be like this?

Madame Vivienne clapped her hands, and the maids immediately sprang into action.

"Strip, mademoiselle!" she ordered dramatically.

I choked. "Excuse me?!"

Madame Vivienne simply waved a hand. "We do not have time! Your dress, your hair, your face- everything must be perfect! You will be the vision of silk and elegance! The jewel of the evening! The envy of all women!"

I took a step back. "You sound like you're preparing me for battle, not an engagement."

Madame Vivienne tilted her head. "Is there a difference?"

...She had a point.

Before I could protest, the maids attacked.

I looked at the dress,and Dios,it's mesmerizing

Before they even let me touch that silk dress, Madame Vivienne and her squad had other plans.

"Mademoiselle, you smell... normal," she said, wrinkling her nose as if I were a farm animal.

Excuse me?

Before I could even protest, I was grabbed.

"WAIT-"

The next thing I knew, I was lowered into a massive bathtub, the water steaming and filled with golden petals. The air was so richly scented it felt like I had fallen into a perfume bottle.

The maids poured something into the water, and suddenly, I was surrounded by the most luxurious fragrance ever- soft vanilla, fresh roses, and something impossibly expensive.

I felt like a walking luxury brand.

Madame Vivienne nodded approvingly. "Now, you will smell like pure heaven, as a bride should."

I blinked at her. "...I thought this was an engagement, not a wedding."

She waved a dismissive hand. "Same thing! Both require suffering."

Fair enough.

Two maids gently scrubbed my arms and shoulders as I sat there, trying to process my life choices.

"You will glow tonight, mademoiselle," Madame Vivienne said with so much passion I almost believed I was being sent to war instead of a party.

I sighed, sinking further into the luxurious water.

At least I smelled expensive now.

Once they were finally satisfied that I smelled like a walking luxury boutique, they dragged me out of the bath like some fragile artifact.

"Now, we work our magic!" Madame Vivienne declared, snapping her fingers.

And just like that, I was ambushed.

Step One: Makeup

A team of artists descended on me. Brushes, powders, creams- everything flew at my face at lightning speed.

"Not too much, we want elegance!" one of them muttered.

"Of course, but a little mystery!" another added.

Mystery? I wasn't sure if I was about to get engaged or become a Bond villain.

When they finally stepped back, I peeked in the mirror-

Flawless.

My skin glowed like silk under candlelight, my lips a soft, elegant shade of deep rose, my eyes lined just enough to look ethereal. I looked expensive, delicate, and untouchable.

Madame Vivienne clapped her hands. "Perfect! Now- the hair!"

Step Two: Hair

Another army of stylists attacked my hair.

Pins, brushes, some kind of magical serum that smelled like gold, and then-

Soft, elegant waves, pinned in just the right places, cascading down my back. A few delicate strands framed my face, adding a touch of effortless beauty.

"Magnifique!" they all sighed dreamily.

Step Three: The Dress

And then- the moment of truth.

The maids lifted the dress like it was woven by angels.

Soft, silken fabric, flowing yet fitted, with delicate embroidery glinting like moonlight. The kind of dress that said,

"Yes, I'm elegant. Yes, I'm expensive. And yes, I'm about to make an entire room stop breathing."

As they slipped it onto me, I felt the cool silk mold against my skin, fitting like it was designed just for me.

Madame Vivienne stepped back, taking in the final result with shining eyes.

"Mademoiselle..." she whispered. "You are ready."

I turned to the mirror- and my breath hitched.

I didn't just look beautiful. I looked powerful.

And now, it was time to face the engagement.

Aliya stepped inside like she owned the place, her sharp hazel eyes scanning the room before landing on me.

And just like that, the maids and stylists were dismissed with a flick of her hand.

"Out. I need to talk to the bride-to-be."

They scurried away, leaving me alone with a smirking Aliya.

I braced myself.

She walked around me like a cat circling its prey, arms crossed, eyes gleaming with pure mischief.

Then-

"Hmm..." she drawled, tapping her chin. "So, this is the woman who's going to handle Adolph for the rest of his life."

I sighed. "Aliya-"

She ignored me.

"You know..." she leaned in, voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper, "He might act all cold and composed, but just wait till tonight-"

"AALIYA!" My face burned instantly.

Her evil smirk widened.

"What? I'm just saying! You're getting engaged today, married tomorrow, and then... well..."

I threw a pillow at her.

She dodged way too gracefully.

She plopped down on my bed, looking far too comfortable. "I mean, the man spent millions just to have you. And did you see his face when that wedding planner talked about the-"

"SHUT UP!" I buried my face in my hands.

"Oh, Neti, darling," she sighed dramatically. "You're so innocent. It's adorable. You really think Adolph is just going to let you sleep peacefully after tomorrow?"

I wanted to melt into the floor and disappear.

She grinned. "Ooh, maybe I should have been your flower girl. Imagine me tossing petals while you walk toward your future of-"

"AALIYA, I SWEAR-"

She cackled like a witch, throwing herself back onto my bed.

This was going to be a long night.

Just when I thought Aliya's teasing was unbearable, the door swung open.

And in walked Pranav.

Wearing his usual grin of pure mischief.

Oh no.

His gaze landed on me first, then on Aliya, and then-

"Oh ho! Looks like I walked into a very interesting conversation."

Aliya smirked. "You did. And trust me, it's only getting better."

I groaned. "Please. No."

Pranav, completely ignoring me, waltzed into the room and dramatically flopped onto the bed beside Aliya.

"SO. What were we talking about?" he asked, elbowing Aliya like they were best friends.

Aliya's smirk widened. "Oh, just about how our dear bride will have quite the eventful night after tomorrow."

I grabbed a pillow to scream into.

Pranav's eyes lit up with pure evil.

He gasps. Loudly. Overdramatically. "Wait, you mean-ohhhhhhh. OHHHHH."

"Shut. Up."

He clutched his chest like he was shocked beyond words. "Neti. You're blushing. YOU'RE ACTUALLY BLUSHING. THIS IS HISTORIC!"

Aliya nodded like a wise sage. "She is. It's adorable."

Pranav sat up like he just made a life-changing discovery. "Do you think she even knows what's gonna happen?"

"PRANAV!!!"

Aliya snorted. "Oh, she's clueless."

Pranav, fake gasping. "Oh, poor thing! Should we educate her?"

"GET. OUT!" I threw a pillow straight at his face.

He caught it and hugged it. "Awww, so aggressive. Adolph's definitely rubbing off on you."

Aliya sighed dreamily. "And soon, she'll be rubbing on Adolph-"

I lunged.

They ran.

Their laughter echoed down the halls.

I wanted the ground to swallow me whole.

Just when I thought I was safe, when I had finally caught my breath and calmed down-

They came back.

Of course, they did.

Pranav and Aliya peeked their heads through the door like two devils.

I glared. "What do you want now?"

Pranav gasped dramatically. "We missed you."

Aliya nodded, looking dead serious. "It felt wrong to leave you alone in your moment of deep thought."

I grabbed another pillow to throw. "GET. OUT."

But they entered fully instead.

Pranav flopped onto the bed again, completely at home. "So, have you finally accepted your fate?"

Aliya smirked. "Or do you still think you're sleeping peacefully after tomorrow?"

I groaned and covered my face. "Why am I surrounded by lunatics?"

Pranav put a hand on his chest. "Excuse you! I am a gentleman."

Aliya scoffed. "A gentleman who sneaks into people's rooms at night because of nightmares."

Silence.

I peeked at Pranav. He looked personally attacked.

"That was ONE TIME!"

Aliya raised a brow. "One time this week."

Pranav grumbled. "You guys just don't understand the horrors my delicate soul endures."

Aliya and I shared a look.

Then Pranav suddenly sat up, eyes wide with realization.

"OH MY GOD. DO YOU GUYS REALIZE WHAT THIS MEANS?"

I sighed. "What now?"

He grinned like a madman. "This means TONIGHT is the last night you get to sleep alone."

Aliya lit up. "OH. YOU'RE RIGHT."

I froze.

Pranav leaned in, grinning. "You should cherish it. The calm before the storm."

Aliya nodded knowingly. "Tomorrow, you'll be occupied all night."

I screamed into my pillow.

And they howled with laughter.

Aliya smirked. "You know, Neti, I did hear something interesting from the wedding planner."

I peeked through my fingers. "What?"

Pranav wiggled his eyebrows. "Something about special preparations in Adolph's room?"

I sat up so fast I almost fell off the bed. "WHAT? WHAT SPECIAL PREPARATIONS?"

Aliya gasped. "You don't know?"

Pranav gasped even louder. "She doesn't know?"

Aliya nodded gravely. "Oh, poor thing."

Pranav pretended to wipe a tear. "So innocent."

I grabbed the nearest pillow to throw. "TELL ME!"

Aliya pretended to think. "Hmm... should we?"

Pranav tapped his chin. "I don't know. She might not be ready for this information."

I grabbed another pillow. "SPIT IT OUT."

Aliya grinned. "The bed."

I froze. "What. About. The bed?"

Pranav looked at Aliya. "Do we tell her?"

Aliya sighed dramatically. "We must. It is our duty."

I was two seconds away from murdering both of them.

Pranav leaned closer. "The sheets..."

I swallowed. "What about the sheets?"

Aliya grinned wickedly. "They're silk."

I blinked. "And?"

Pranav nodded seriously. "Imported."

Aliya continued. "The lights? Dimmable."

Pranav gasped. "The candles? Scented."

Aliya put a hand over her heart. "The roses? Everywhere."

Pranav covered his mouth. "And the pillows?"

Aliya leaned in, voice a whisper. "Feather soft."

I turned red.

They cackled.

"STOP TEASING ME!" I shoved them both, but they just fell onto the bed laughing.

Pranav gasped dramatically. "Oh my GOD, imagine her face tomorrow night."

Aliya nodded. "I bet she'll just sit there in shock."

Pranav clutched his chest. "While Adolph smirks at her."

Aliya pretended to be me. "A-Adolph... w-why are the lights dim?"

Pranav pretended to be Adolph. "Why do you think, dolcezza?"

I screamed into my pillow again.

They howled with laughter.

Pranav noticed Aliya wasn't rolling her eyes at him for once and gasped, placing a hand over his chest.

"Wait a second-" He narrowed his eyes at her. "You're actually laughing at my joke instead of threatening to break my face?"

Aliya froze. Her smirk faltered for a moment before she crossed her arms. "Don't push your luck, idiot."

Pranav grinned. "Ohhh, this is a historic moment! Quick, someone write it down-Aliya actually found me funny!"

Aliya picked up a pillow and launched it at his face. "Shut up, Rathore!"

Pranav dodged effortlessly and smirked. "Oh no, no, no. You can't take it back now. It happened. You laughed. You enjoyed my presence."

Aliya grabbed another pillow. "One more word, and I swear-"

Pranav threw his arms up dramatically. "One small step for Pranav, one giant leap for mankind! Aliya has acknowledged my greatness!"

Aliya gritted her teeth. "Neti, tell your future devar to shut up before I make him eat this pillow."

I was too busy trying not to die from laughter. "Aliya, just admit it. You had fun."

Aliya groaned. "I hate both of you."

Pranav winked. "Love you too, future bhabhi!"

Eliza walked in gracefully, only to pause when she saw my absolutely flustered state. She blinked, then narrowed her eyes at Pranav and Aliya. "What did you two do to her?"

Pranav grinned mischievously. "Oh, nothing much. Just giving her some educational insights about married life."

Aliya smirked, flipping her hair. "And future... obligations."

My eyes widened in horror. "Eliza, please take me away before they say anything more."

Eliza sighed. "I don't even want to know." Then she gestured for me to follow. "Come on, Miss Neti. It's time for your engagement."

Pranav gave me a dramatic wave. "Have fun, bhabhi! And remember-tonight's just the engagement. The real fun starts tomorrow!"

Aliya chuckled. "Don't forget, I expect a full reaction report on your first night as Mrs. Alessandro."

I let out a strangled noise and bolted out of the room. Eliza followed behind, but not before she shot Pranav and Aliya a warning look.

"You two should pray Adolph never finds out what you were saying," she muttered before closing the door behind us.

I paused mid-step, eyeing them both. Pranav in his sharp black suit, and Aliya in her stunning black dress. They were matching.

A slow smirk spread across my face.

"Well, well, well..." I turned to them, arms crossed. "You two seem to be perfectly coordinated tonight."

Aliya blinked. "So?"

Pranav tilted his head, confused. "Yeah, so?"

I grinned devilishly. "A coincidence... or fate?"

Pranav choked on air. "Wait-WHAT?"

Aliya's head snapped towards him with pure disgust. "Don't even think about it."

"THINK ABOUT WHAT?!" Pranav held up his hands in defense. "Why am I suddenly under attack?!"

I gasped dramatically. "Oh my God, you guys are like one of those mafia couples! The dark, broody, scary woman and the chaotic golden retriever man-"

Aliya groaned. "That's it, I'm leaving-"

"Oh no, you're not!" I grabbed her arm. "You two look adorable together!"

Pranav was already grinning. "You think so, bhabhi?"

Aliya snapped her head back at him. "Don't call her that."

"But she is!"

"Not to you!"

"Wait-if Neti is my bhabhi, that makes you my-"

Aliya punched him in the stomach before he could finish.

I burst out laughing. "See? Just like a couple!"

Pranav gasped, clutching his stomach. "Aliya, if you wanted to touch me so badly, you could've just asked."

Aliya raised her fist again.

Pranav immediately dodged. "Okay, okay! Not the face!"

I smirked at them. "Anyway, you two should definitely consider a future together. Maybe at my wedding, we can announce-"

"NO."

"Absolutely NOT."

They spoke at the same time, glaring at me.

I just shrugged, grinning. "I dunno, seems like fate to me."

I raised an eyebrow, smirking at their reactions. "Oh, but if you two keep teasing me, I swear I'll tell Adolph that you guys are a thing. And as punishment, we'll announce you as the future couple at my wedding."

Aliya froze.

Pranav blinked. "Wait. Hold on. Let's not be hasty-"

Aliya turned to me, eyes wide. "You wouldn't dare."

I crossed my arms. "Try me."

Pranav held up his hands in surrender. "Okay, bhabhi, listen, I know I tease you a lot, but let's negotiate."

I grinned evilly. "No negotiations. Either you both shut up, or I will personally ask Adolph to make an announcement about the next big wedding."

Aliya glared at me. "You're pure evil."

Pranav laughed nervously. "Yeah, I see why Adolph likes you now."

I flipped my hair smugly. "Glad you're finally seeing the light."

Aliya gritted her teeth, looking Pranav dead in the eye. "This is your fault."

Pranav pointed at himself, offended. "MY fault?! How is this MY fault?! You were teasing her too!"

"Yeah, but YOU are the one who makes it worse!"

I sighed dramatically. "Awww, look at you two already bickering like a married couple."

"Neti." Aliya's voice was dangerously low.

I smirked. "Fine, fine, I'll spare you... for now."

Pranav wiped imaginary sweat from his forehead. "Phew. That was a close one."

Aliya rolled her eyes. "I hate you."

"Love you too, Aliya," I sang, flipping my hair as I walked off.

As we stepped into the grand garden, my breath caught in my throat.

It was nothing short of a dream.

The entire place looked drop-dead gorgeous, radiating elegance and wealth in every detail. The towering floral arches, adorned with white and gold roses, glowed under the twinkling fairy lights strung between the tall trees. The chandeliers hanging from the open pavilion shimmered like crystals under the soft evening sky, making everything seem almost ethereal.

The engagement was taking place in the front garden, but it was seamlessly connected to the backyard garden by a small, charming bridge. Beneath it, a gentle stream flowed, its surface glistening under the moonlight, adding a touch of magic to the entire scene. The reflection of the soft golden lights on the water made it look as if tiny stars were floating in the ripples.

The atmosphere was warm, luxurious, and breathtaking.

Pranav let out a low whistle beside me. "Damn, Adolph really went all out for this, huh?"

Aliya, for once, was silent, taking in the sheer grandeur of the setup.

I swallowed, feeling a strange mix of emotions. The beauty of the setting, the gravity of the moment, and the fact that this was real-that I was standing here, about to get engaged-it all hit me at once.

And then, as if my thoughts had summoned him, Adolph appeared.

Standing near the entrance of the pavilion, dressed in a tailored black suit, his presence was undeniable, magnetic, and commanding. The way his sharp gaze landed on me, taking me in from head to toe, sent a shiver down my spine.

The moment was perfect.

I felt like I was glowing under the soft golden lights, the silk of my dress clinging to me like a second skin, every delicate detail accentuating my figure in just the right way. My hair was styled to perfection, a mix of elegance and effortless beauty, and the subtle scent of the luxurious bath earlier still lingered around me.

I didn't even have to turn to know that Aliya was smirking.

"Dio mio, you look like a goddess," she said, circling me with a teasing glint in her eyes. "If Adolph sees you like this, he's not waiting for the wedding night. He's pouncing tonight."

Pranav, ever the menace, grinned wide. "Forget the wedding night, he'll probably drag you away before the ring even gets on your finger." He gasped dramatically, clutching his chest. "Damn, imagine the headlines: 'Billionaire Mafia Groom Loses Control, Bride Kidnapped at Own Engagement.'"

Aliya snorted. "More like, 'Bride Dragged Away by Lust-Driven Fiancé, Guests Still Eating Canapés.'"

My face burned instantly as they both burst into laughter.

I groaned, covering my face. "Can you two not?"

Pranav fake gasped. "Oh no, look at her! She's actually considering it! Neti, don't you dare encourage his sinful behavior."

Aliya nudged my arm. "Too late. She's blushing."

I shot them both a glare and hissed, "Shut. Up."

Pranav grinned. "Nope."

Aliya smirked. "Absolutely not."

I knew I was doomed.

Adolph

I had planned to make a grand entrance-walk in with effortless elegance, meet Neti's eyes across the glowing garden, and make her forget about everyone else.

What I didn't plan for was hearing my fiancée's best friend and that menace of a man-child discussing my so-called 'lack of control.'

I halted just at the entrance of the garden, my sharp senses catching every word.

"If Adolph sees you like this, he's not waiting for the wedding night. He's pouncing tonight."

Aliya's smug voice.

"Forget the wedding night, he'll probably drag you away before the ring even gets on your finger."

Pranav, the devil himself.

I narrowed my eyes.

"More like, 'Bride Dragged Away by Lust-Driven Fiancé, Guests Still Eating Canapés.'"

I arched a brow. Oh? Is that what they think?

Neti groaned, embarrassed beyond belief, but instead of shutting them down, she... blushed.

I took a slow step forward, making my presence known.

Three things happened instantly:

1. Neti spun around so fast I thought she might trip over the silk of her dress. Her eyes went wide like she'd been caught committing a crime.

2. Aliya cursed under her breath, but her smirk never faded.

3. Pranav, that idiot, had the audacity to grin at me.

"Ah, speak of the devil," he drawled, shoving his hands into his pockets. "Or should I say, speak of the groom about to commit a kidnapping?"

Neti squeaked.

I tilted my head, stepping closer, letting my gaze slowly drag over Neti. She looked... breathtaking. Every inch of her was pure elegance, yet undeniably mine.

I leaned in slightly, lowering my voice just enough for the three of them to hear.

"Now why would I kidnap what's already mine?"

Neti's face turned impossibly red.

Pranav whistled. "Whoa. That was smooth, I'll give you that."

Aliya smirked. "Mhmm, let's see if he's still that smooth when we remind him we all heard everything."

I exhaled a slow breath, turning my gaze to them. Mistake.

Pranav was grinning like a madman in his black suit, and Aliya had her arms crossed, enjoying my rare moment of being teased.

Pranav clapped me on the shoulder. "So, tell us, Adolph, how do you plan on controlling yourself tonight?"

Neti choked on air.

I narrowed my eyes at him. "Would you like to test the strength of the garden stream, Pranav?"

Pranav immediately took a step back. "Oookay, I think I'll go find some champagne now."

Aliya laughed. "Coward."

I turned to Neti, who still looked like she wanted the ground to swallow her whole.

I offered her my arm. "Shall we, mia cara?"

She hesitated, still clearly recovering from the humiliation.

Aliya snickered. "Go on, Neti. Just remember-if he does pounce, you have two witnesses."

Pranav gasped. "Oh my God, you're right. We should probably stay close, just in case."

I sent them both a glare.

Neti groaned, but finally slipped her arm through mine, muttering curses under her breath.

I smirked. This is going to be fun.

As we made our way toward the stage, I could feel Neti practically dragging her feet, her entire posture screaming embarrassment.

Her grip on my arm was weak, her shoulders hunched slightly, and worst of all-she was actively avoiding my gaze.

All because of those two.

I exhaled a slow breath, glancing at Pranav and Aliya, who were watching like entertained audience members at a drama show.

"Look at her," Pranav whispered loudly, nudging Aliya. "She's too embarrassed to even walk properly."

Aliya smirked. "I'd say she's reconsidering the wedding, but it's a bit too late for that now, huh?"

Neti froze mid-step, her hands clenching into fists.

I chuckled under my breath.

Enough of this.

Without warning, I bent down and scooped her up into my arms-bridal style.

A loud gasp left her lips as her arms automatically wrapped around my neck in shock.

"W-What are you-?! Adolph, put me down!"

I looked straight ahead, completely unfazed. "No."

Pranav burst into laughter. "Oh-ho! And the groom sweeps the bride away! How romantic!"

Aliya smirked, crossing her arms. "More like how dramatic."

Neti buried her face into my shoulder, probably regretting all her life choices leading up to this moment.

I climbed the few steps onto the grand stage, the luxurious floral arrangement around us framing the moment perfectly.

The guests, who had been busy murmuring among themselves, went completely silent at the sight of me carrying my fiancée like she was some delicate treasure.

A few gasps.

Some quiet chuckles.

A few women sighing dreamily.

And then, Pranav's voice, loud and dramatic as ever-

"Ladies and gentlemen! We present to you-the soon-to-be Mrs. Adolph Alessandro!"

The crowd erupted into applause.

Neti, absolutely mortified, pinched my shoulder. "Put. Me. Down."

I smirked, leaning down just enough to whisper, low and teasingly-

"Say please, mia cara."

She stiffened.

Pranav gasped loudly from below. "Oh my God, he's evil!"

Aliya snorted. "You're only realizing this now?"

Neti muttered something that sounded suspiciously like death threats, but I ignored it, finally setting her down.

Her cheeks were burning red, her fingers clenched into fists at her sides.

I leaned in slightly, lowering my voice so only she could hear.

"You should thank me," I murmured. "Now everyone thinks you were just too excited to wait."

She snapped her gaze up to me, eyes wide. "You-!"

I smirked.

And just like that, the ceremony officially began.

The rings that had been carefully arranged by the maids were nothing short of exquisite-pure platinum, encrusted with flawless diamonds, shining under the golden glow of the chandeliers.

The guests were cheering, the soft melody of violins gracefully filling the air, and the entire garden looked like a scene from a fairy tale.

But Neti?

She was anything but enchanted.

Her face was stiff, her lips pressed into a thin line, and her fingers twitched slightly as the reality of the moment sank in.

She was about to be engaged.

To Adolph.

For real.

Pranav, of course, was having the time of his life, clapping like a proud parent. "Come on, come on, let's get to the good part!"

Aliya, standing beside him, smirked. "You mean the part where she puts the ring on and seals her fate?"

Neti shot them both a glare.

Meanwhile, Adolph stood calm, collected, and completely unbothered beside her, watching her reaction with an amused smirk.

When she made zero move to lift her hand, he leaned down slightly, voice smooth and teasing-

"Nervous, mia cara?"

She snapped her head up to glare at him, her fingers involuntarily tightening into fists.

Oh, she had plenty to say. But with the entire crowd watching, cameras flashing, and Pranav practically vibrating in excitement, she had no choice but to breathe deeply and hold it in.

This was happening.

There was no escaping now.

The rings sparkled under the soft glow of the chandeliers, catching the light like tiny stars. Everything was set-perfect, elegant, luxurious. The guests were watching, waiting. Pranav was practically bouncing on his feet, and Aliya had that smirk that meant she was enjoying every second of Neti's suffering.

And speaking of Neti...

She looked ready to combust.

Her jaw was tight, fingers curled into small fists, and her eyes? Oh, they were shooting daggers at everyone-me included.

I let out a low chuckle, tilting my head slightly.

"Nervous, mia cara?"

Her head snapped up, eyes burning into mine like she wanted to set me on fire.

Cute.

Her lips parted, and for a second, I thought she'd actually bite back, but then her gaze flickered to the crowd, to the cameras flashing, and I saw it-her realization.

She was trapped.

I could almost hear the exact moment she resigned herself to fate.

"Go on, Neti," Pranav grinned, clapping his hands together. "Seal the deal!"

Aliya crossed her arms, smirking. "Or should we just skip to the wedding night? Since Adolph clearly isn't waiting."

Neti visibly choked on air.

I exhaled through my nose, fighting the smirk threatening my lips.

Slowly, deliberately, I reached for her hand-her fingers flinched slightly, but she didn't pull away.

Good girl.

I slipped the diamond-studded ring onto her finger, letting my thumb brush over her skin. Her breath hitched, almost unnoticeably.

Then, it was her turn.

She swallowed, lips pressing together as she picked up the ring.

Her hands weren't shaking, but I could feel the slight hesitation.

I leaned in, voice just for her.

"Put it on, bella. Before I decide to make things more interesting."

Her eyes snapped to mine, widening slightly.

I felt her fingers tense as she quickly shoved the ring onto my finger, as if getting it over with.

I smirked.

And just like that, the cheers erupted, applause ringing through the garden as the engagement was sealed.

Neti, on the other hand, looked like she was ready to murder someone.

The engagement was over, but Neti still looked murderous.

Too bad for her-the night was far from over.

The guests were led to the dining area-a grand setup in the garden under a canopy of twinkling lights. The long table was decorated with crystal glassware, golden cutlery, and floral centerpieces that screamed wealth and power. The finest wine was being poured, and the aroma of the richest, most expensive dishes filled the air.

Pranav, of course, was the first one to sit down, looking way too comfortable in his chair.

"Ah, yes, a meal fit for a king!" He stretched his arms and grinned at Neti. "Or, should I say, a queen-to-be?"

Neti shot him a look that could set him on fire.

Aliya, sipping her wine, smirked. "Well, technically, she already belongs to Adolph now."

Neti coughed violently.

I simply pulled out her chair-forcing her to sit next to me before she could try escaping.

She crossed her arms, pouting slightly as the food was served.

The staff placed the plates in front of us-an extravagant spread of everything from handmade pasta to truffle-infused delicacies.

Pranav took one look at the dishes and blinked.

"Wait, wait, wait." He leaned forward, eyes wide. "No chicken nuggets? No fries? What kind of fine dining nightmare is this?!"

Aliya gave him the most disgusted look. "We're at an engagement dinner, you child. Not a kids' birthday party."

Pranav placed a hand over his chest, dramatically. "How dare you insult my taste?!"

I ignored them and turned to Neti, who was picking at her food.

I leaned closer, voice low.

"What's wrong, bella? Not hungry?"

She shot me a glare but said nothing.

I smirked, lifting a piece of pasta with my fork and holding it up.

"Then let me feed you."

Her entire body stiffened.

Pranav choked on his drink.

Aliya snorted.

The guests kept chatting away, oblivious to the absolute chaos happening at our end of the table.

Neti quickly grabbed her own fork and stuffed food into her mouth, as if to prevent me from doing it.

I chuckled, watching her face turn redder by the second.

Pranav leaned closer, whispering loud enough for everyone to hear.

"Damn, Adolph, at least wait until the wedding night to spoil her."

Neti slammed her fork down.

I smirked.

Tonight was going to be fun.

The entire table went silent.

Every single guest-the powerful businessmen, the mafias, the so-called "respectable" figures of high society-turned their heads toward us.

Neti looked like she was about to dig a hole in the ground and bury herself alive.

I, on the other hand, simply took a sip of my wine, completely unbothered.

Pranav?

Oh, he was grinning like a madman, absolutely thriving in the chaos he had just caused.

One of the old men at the table coughed awkwardly. "Ahem. Young love... so passionate..."

Another mafia boss smirked, raising his glass. "Ah, Adolph, you never fail to entertain."

Neti's soul left her body.

Her hands were shaking as she grabbed a piece of bread, staring at it like she was considering using it as a weapon.

Aliya, for once, was too stunned to speak.

Then, Pranav, the devil himself, decided to make it worse.

He leaned back in his chair, crossed his arms, and sighed dramatically.

"Ah, to be young and in love. The way he looks at her. The way she turns red. The way they-"

Neti launched the bread at his face.

SMACK.

Pranav yelled. "ASSAULT!"

I chuckled.

Neti, still bright red, grabbed her napkin and buried her face into it.

Author

The entire table was either laughing or shaking their heads, while I simply reached for my wine, enjoying every second of her suffering.

Pranav, still rubbing his injured forehead from the bread attack, suddenly turned his attention to Neti's mother.

She had been sitting there, silent, cold, uninterested-as if this event meant absolutely nothing to her.

And Pranav, being Pranav, never let anything slide.

With a bright, innocent grin, he leaned forward and, in a voice so sweet it was dripping with sarcasm, asked-

"So, Mrs. Dalton, how do you feel about your daughter's engagement?"

Silence.

Dead. Silence.

Neti stiffened. Adolph's eyes darkened.

Her mother simply lifted her wine glass, took a slow sip, and with the most emotionless expression, replied-

"I feel nothing."

Neti's grip on her fork tightened.

Pranav's smile didn't waver.

"Wow. That's... that's motherly love right there." He nodded, then turned to Adolph. "Did you hear that, Adolph? She feels nothing. That's, like, the warmest thing I've ever heard a mother say about her own daughter."

Aliya, who had been minding her own business, suddenly choked on her drink.

Adolph leaned back, his jaw clenched. He already knew what kind of woman Neti's mother was, but seeing her so unapologetically cold still irritated him.

Pranav?

Oh, he wasn't done.

"You must be so proud, huh? Selling her off for twenty million dollars was definitely a moment of deep, motherly concern. Truly, an inspiration to all parents."

Neti's mother didn't even blink.

Instead, she set her glass down and looked at Neti, her expression bored, detached.

"You should be grateful," she said. "You would have been useless in our family anyway."

Neti froze.

Adolph's hand twitched, his temper barely in check.

Pranav?

Pranav laughed. A full, amused, delighted laugh.

"Grateful?" he repeated. "Oh, you're right. Neti, how dare you not be grateful that your own mother saw you as a price tag instead of a daughter? You should be on your knees, thanking her for her generosity!"

Neti's mother narrowed her eyes, but Pranav wasn't finished.

"I mean, twenty million? Wow. That's a lot. You know, I'm feeling inspired right now. Maybe I should sell Adolph. What do you think, Neti? We could start the bidding at, let's say... fifty million? He's stronger than you, after all. Probably worth more."

Aliya snorted.

Adolph shot him a look. "Pranav-"

"Shh, shh, Adolph, let the adults talk." Pranav waved him off dramatically.

Neti's mother glared at him, but Pranav only smiled wider.

"Anyway, Mrs. Dalton, do let me know if you ever plan to auction off any other family members. I'll bring my checkbook next time."

The entire table was watching, some in shock, others barely holding back laughter.

Neti, despite everything, bit her lip, trying not to smile.

Adolph?

He simply sat back, watching Pranav destroy this woman without lifting a finger.
