Side Story Chapter 165 - Satellite World, Zexal (3)
âThe hell is that...?â asked Cha Yeon-Joo who had taken out her chains to prepare for battle.
âNo idea.â
âHow should I know? What the hell is he doing?â
Oh Kang-Woo expected a bloodbath to occur from the bloodlust the chimera was exuding but he had not expected this turn of eventsâ no, who could have possibly expected a menacing three-meter chimera to take out a deck of cards instead of its fangs and claws?
âWhat... are you doing? Why arenât you putting on your Disk?â
âI donât even know what that even is.â
âI donât have this Disk thing you keep mentioning,â Kang-Woo replied.
âHah! A petty trick to avoid a Duel, I see! You have one right there!â
âOh.â
âCome to think of it, we picked something up from the valley.â
Kang-Woo raised the odd-looking shield.
âIs this called a Disk? What are we gonna do once I put this thing on? Weâre not seriously gonna do a card battle here, are we?â
âAlright! Hurry up and place your deck in the Disk and pull out your card!!!â
âSo weâre seriously gonna play a card battle?â
â...â
âWhatâs wrong? Are you planning on running away from a sacred Duel?â
âRunning away, my ass. I donât even want to play.â
âWh-What? You donât want to duel?â The Chimeraâs six eyes widened in disbelief. âHmm. If you have no intention of dueling...â
âYeah, letâs settle this with an old-fashioned physical brawlââ
The chimera cut Kang-Woo off as he selected one of the five cards in his hand.
âI will make the first move.â
âThe fuck?â
âIs there no choice of not playing?â
âMy turn!â
â...â
âAlright, fine. Go ahead.â
Kang-Woo gave up and observed what the otherworldly chimera was doing.
âI summon Lakkari Warrior in attack position!â
Whoooom!
The chimera placed the card on one of the Diskâs grooves. A monster wielding a grotesque sword appeared on the ground out of nowhere.
âI then set two cards face down and end my turn!â
Kang-Wooâs turn had arrived but he couldnât do anything.
âI donât have any cards in the first place.â
The chimera smiled nastily as he watched Kang-Woo standing still and doing nothing.
âHmph. If you donât pull out a card, my turn begins automatically.â
âBro, I donât even have any cards.â
âAnd I wouldnât play even if I did.â
âWell, then, my turn again!â The chimera waited for two minutes and stretched his arm forward. He shouted confidently, âPierce the enemyâs heart, warrior of hell!!â
âGRRRRRR!!!â
The warrior summoned from the Disk charged at Kang-Woo with its grotesque greatsword.
âHyung-nim, this is...â
âYeah. It looks like he can attack with monsters summoned from that Disk thing.â
Kang-Woo smiled as he stared at the charging warrior.
âSo, thatâs how it is.â
This world known as Zexal had a method to summon monsters displayed on those cards like magic and it was common sense to engage in combat through them.
âIn other words.â
Kang-Woo didnât need to rely on cards or a Disk as long as he destroyed the monsters himself.
âIn that case, itâll be a piece of cake.â
It was no different from fighting against a necromancer or summoner. He could win without playing the stupid card game if he defeated the monsters summoned through the Disk and the chimera along with them.
âI will face it, hyung-nim.â
âNo, Iâll go,â Kang-Woo interjected as he blocked Kim Si-Hun pulling his sword out from his waist.
âLetâs see how strong this summon is.â
He was fairly impressed by the purple aura the chimera had exuded so he was also hoping his summon to be just as strong.
âWell, even so...â
âI doubt itâd be a match for me.â
Kang-Woo charged at the warrior. He created a black blade using the Authority of Blades.
Slash!!!
He raised it high and swung it down without hesitation.
âIâm sure it would at least survive one blowââ
âGRRRRRRRRRR!!â
â...!â
Kang-Woo stared wide-eyed at the monster holding a greatsword. Not only did it not die from his attack but it was completely unscathed.
âHow did itââ
The Lakkari Warriorâs greatsword slashed Kang-Wooâs torso before he could even finish his thought.
â...â
However, it only went through him.
âThe hell...?â
Kang-Woo extended his arm and touched the monster. His hand went through it as if it were a hologram.
âNo...â
It wasnât just like a hologramâ it was a hologram.
âHe... wasnât a summoner?â
âWas he seriously trying to play a card game against me?â
âYOU BASTAAAAAAAAAARD!!!â the chimera bellowed. âITâS PROPER MANNERS TO MAKE A CORRESPONDING RESPONSE IF YOU TAKE DAMAGE TO YOUR LIFE POINTS!!!â
â...â
âWhat the hell is wrong with the idiot?â
âYou... never mind.â
Kang-Woo was about to argue but shook his head, not wanting to go through the trouble.
âThis isnât the time.â
He needed to plunge this world into despair as soon as possible to fulfill Midirâs awakening conditions.
âWell, thatâs easy enough since there are intelligent beings.â
They would fall into despair on their own if he beat them all senseless. All lifeforms fell into despair from pain.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
Kang-Woo walked toward the chimera, ignoring the hologram fervently swinging its greatsword at him.
âI donât have time to waste playing card games so letâs finish this quick.â
âUrgh! Wh-What do you think youâre doing?!â
Kang-Woo walked up to the chimera and broke the Disk on his arm.
âAAAAHHH!! M-MY CARDS!!!â
â...â
Kang-Woo was swept with an inexplicable sense of guilt as he watched the chimera picking up the cards scattered on the ground.
âWhyâs he making such a big deal over cards?â
Kang-Woo would somewhat understand if real monsters could be summoned with them but that wasnât the case. Those cards were made purely for the sake of Duels.
âWAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!! M-My cards...â
The chimera bawled his eyes out as he embraced his cards that ripped from the impact.
âAhh.â
Kang-Woo was overflowing with guilt.
âI wouldnât have to feel this way if this was from a physical beating.â
His heart felt heavy as the chimera cried because his cards were torn.
âMmm... Hey, Oh Kang-Woo. Do we have to go this far?â
âA-Ahem. I-Iâm getting a little depressed.â
Yeon-Joo and Si-Hun looked down at the chimera with guilt, feeling the same way as Kang-Woo.
âTsk... We have no other choice.â Kang-Woo clicked his tongue after some thought and pulled out Midir.
However guilty he felt, he had no choice but to create despair to fulfill Midirâs awakening conditions.
âWell, at least it looks like we have enough.â
Kang-Woo brought Midir close to the crying chimera and commanded, âEat this guyâs despair.â
[Huh?] Midirâs voice echoed in Kang-Wooâs head. [What are you talking about? Thereâs no despair for me to eat.]
âWhat do you mean? Itâs right there.â
Even now, the chimera was making a fountain of tears as he held his ripped cards.
[Hmph. Thatâs sorrow. Itâs different from despair.]
âWhat?â
âWhat kind of bullshit is that?â
âYou bastard... I will never forgive you!! One day... I will make you pay for this!â
The chimera stood up and glared at Kang-Woo with thick bloodlust.
âHaaa,â Kang-Woo sighed.
âI guess it canât be helped. If heâs feeling sorrow instead of despair, Iâll have to make it so that he feels despair.â
He felt guilty from seeing the chimera crying as he embraced his torn cards but he could ignore such feelings as long as he accomplished his goal.
âWhy wait until one day?â Kang-Woo remarked.
âWh-What?â
âIf you want revenge for your cards, act now by using your body,â said Kang-Woo as he pointed at the menacing spikes on the chimeraâs elbows.
The chimera seemed far stronger than the holographic monster he created.
âIf he comes at me first, I can beat him up without feeling any guilt.â
Kang-Woo mockingly stared at the chimera shaking like a vibrator.
âA-Are you suggesting we... f-fight hand-to-hand?â
âWhat else could I be suggesting?â
âY-You damn barbarian!!!â
âSay that after you look at yourself in the mirror.â
âIf you call yourself an honorable Duelist, fight fair and square with a Duel!!!â
âWhaââ
âSeriously, what the hell is up with this guy? Is he going to avoid a fight with that body?â
The chimera was three meters tall, was covered in a hard shell, had sharp claws, and even those menacing spikes on his elbows. The otherworldly resident who looked as if he were born for battle was trembling like a scared rat.
âIs this how everyone in this world is?â
Kang-Woo feigned laughter and raised his fist. If the chimera wouldnât fight, Kang-Woo had no choice.
âIâm sure youâll change your mind after a beating.â
âKurgh!! Urgh!! Gaaaahhh!!â
A merciless beating commenced. Kang-Woo held back as much as possible so he wouldnât kill the chimera by accident but the chimera did not put up any resistance.
âLetâs see for how long you can keep that up.â
Even a rat would attack a cat if it were cornered. No matter how unwilling the chimera was to brawl, he would change his mind once he continued getting beaten up one-sidedly.
Ten minutes passed.
âGurgh... Argh... Grrrrk.â
âGoddammit...â
âHeâs seriously not gonna put up any resistance?â
âM-Mmm...â
âTh-This is a bit...â
Kang-Wooâs comrades were averting their gazes from the beating and sighed, unable to keep watching. Even if it was to save Earth, they felt bad watching someone who had no intention of fighting, getting beaten up senselessly.
âHaaa.â
Even Kang-Woo was feeling unpleasant.
âBut this should be enough.â
Extreme pain was bound to bring about despair.
âMidir, eat this guyâs despair.â
[Thereâs nothing to eat, though...]
âWhat?â
[I said, thereâs no despair for me to eat. This guy isnât despairing at all.]
â...â
Kang-Woo grabbed his forehead as if his head hurt.
âKurgh... Th-Thereâs no point... in b-being b-barbaric...â The chimera, covered in blood, glared at Kang-Woo with his six eyes. He continued, âWe warriors of Zexal... will n-never despair... unless w-we have lost a D-Duel...!!!â
â...â
The chimera had just proven his words were no bluff.
âWh-What should we do now, hyung-nim?â asked Si-Hun in panic.
âWhat else...?â Kang-Woo sighed deeply. He walked over to the collapsed chimera and crouched next to him. âWhere can we get these cards?â
âThis is driving me fucking insane.â
