I didn't let my gaze linger on him for more than a second. But I could feel him, like a ripple of energy cutting through the noise of the crowd. It was unsettling, and I hated being unsettled.
"Avni!" A cheerful voice interrupted my thoughts, and I turned to see Mr. Mehra, one of the evening's key investors, approaching with his usual wide grin. "Mr. Mehra," I greeted, slipping into my polished smile. "It's always a pleasure."
I exchanged pleasantries, slipping into the familiar rhythm of these conversations. But even as I talked, a part of my mind remained on Aditya. I don't know why the hell i was nervous .
It was normal. Right?
He was watching me now. I could feel his gaze, steady and unyielding. I wanted to turn, to meet his eyes, but I refused to give him the satisfaction. "Excuse me," I said smoothly, excusing myself from the conversation as I made my way to the bar.
The room seemed to part as I walked, my presence commanding attention, but my focus was sharp. I didn't need to look to know he was still watching.
When I reached the bar, the bartender greeted me with a polite smile. "What can I get for you, ma'am?" "Champagne," I said, my voice calm. As I picked up the glass, I finally allowed myself to turn. And there he was, standing a few steps away, drink in hand, his gaze meeting mine with an intensity that was almost unnerving.
His tailored black suit was as sharp as the edge in his expression. He didn't smile, didn't try to charm. He just looked at me, like he was trying to unravel me with a glance.
"Ms. Rajput," he said, his voice low and smooth as he closed the distance between us. "Mr. Singhania," I replied, my tone steady, unflinching. The energy between us crackled like a live wire. There was no handshake, no polite exchange of pleasantries. Just two people standing toe-to-toe, neither willing to look away first.
"I didn't expect to see you here," he said, his words deliberate. "It's Rajput Gala. I didn't expect you to care". I countered, lifting my glass to my lips.
For a moment, something flickered in his eyes-amusement, perhaps. But it was gone as quickly as it appeared.
"You don't strike me as someone who leaves anything to chance," he said, tilting his head slightly. "And you don't strike me as someone who shows up without a reason," I replied, matching his tone. He smiled then, just the faintest curve of his lips. "Perhaps we're not so different after all." "We are ," I said, meeting his gaze head-on.
"Enjoy your evening, Ms. Rajput," he said, his voice lingering as he turned and walked away.
As I watched him disappear into the crowd. This man is here for a purpose and that's definitely not just making partnerships meeting people. He was a man who could challenge me. And that, I decided, made him dangerous.
