Just as Ellinor was about to hang up the phone, she halted, âSpill it. Who are you, and whatâs up?â
The other party answered, âIâm near you! Look to your left, and youâll see who I am!â
Ellinorâs gaze quickly shifted to the left, where she saw a silhouette waving at her from an alleyway..
It was Haillie, a face she hadnât seen in a while.
She had used a voice changer during the call, so Ellinor hadnât recognized her voice.
If Haillie had nothing to hide, she wouldnât use a voice changer, so Ellinor guessed something was up.
Ellinor watched cautiously and chuckled into the phone, âHaillie, is that you? If you need me, just say so. No need for these cloak and dagger games. You think itâs fun or something?â
Haillie stood at the intersection, âI do need you. Come here; we need to talk.â
Ellinor wasnât fooled. She politely laughed, âIâll pass. Iâm almost at the Blanchetâs. You can come in with me, and we can talk there.â
After a failed car accident yesterday, Haillie was now being hunted citywide by Theoâs people. She didnât dare to go home, stay in a hotel, or even step foot into the Blanchetâs house!
âI canât go to the Blanchetâs. I heard Putnam and Marissa Blanchet are back. Itâd be awkward to talk with them around. Come here, letâs find a place without people.â
Haillie was Patriciaâs good friend and was often used by her. Now that she was looking for Ellinor, it must be about Patricia again.
Ellinor wasnât playing ball, and she calmly said, âThen, Iâm sorry. Iâm dog tired today. If youâre not up for coming to the Blanchetâs with me, weâll have to pick this up some other day.â
With that, Ellinor hung up and prepared to go in.
Listening to the busy signal, Haillie gritted her teeth.
Ellinor was still as difficult as ever!
Thinking of the task she had to complete today, Haillie quickly caught up with her before she could go in, âHold up!â
Ellinor was about to enter, but hearing Haillieâs voice, she turned around and, while smiling, she questioned Haillie, âChanged your mind, Haillie? Ready to come in?â
Haillie frowned, âDo I have a choice? You wonât come out and talk with me!â
If she hadnât just seen Theo drive away without getting out of the car, she wouldnât dare to go into the Blanchetâs place.
While Theo wasnât home, she could seize this opportunity to sort out some stuffâ¦
Ellinor smiled and said, âWell, come on in then!â
And with that, she led Haillie into the Blanchetâs.
In the Blanchetâs living room, Putnam, Marissa, and Veronica Blanchet were having lunch.
Hearing the entrance, Marissa looked up and saw Ellinor, immediately smiling, âEllinorâs back! Perfect timing, wash your hands, and join us for lunch!â
After changing into slippers, Ellinor entered the room, greeted her grandparents, and then said, âGrandma, Iâve got a friend over. Weâve got some stuff to talk about. Can we have lunch sent up to my room so we can chat while we eat?â
