If such a thing happened, it would probably give Ellinor a real headache.
Balfour knew deep down that he wasnât exactly the best big brother. All he could do now was to do his utmost to protect her and stop her from getting into any more scrapes.
Meanwhile, in a high-end private room at the hospital.
Marissa was lying in bed, knocked out by the sedatives, but her brow was still furrowed. She was not even relaxed in her sleep.
By her bedside. Putnam sat in his wheelchair, deeply worried as he watched Marissa.
All they could do now was keep her away from any stress until she woke up. Once she did, she would definitely ask about Ellinor.
Damn, that little girlâs death was such a shame. How could she die so young?
âGrandpa, howâs Grandma doing now?â
Just as Putnam was sighing to himself, a girlâs voice sounded from behind him.
All his attention was on Marissa, so Putnam didnât take much notice of the voice and assumed it was his granddaughter who had returned.
âYour grandma still needs a bit more time to regain consciousness.â He answered, turning his head to look at his âgranddaughter.â
However, the moment he saw the girl standing behind him, Putnam got a fright and even rolled back a bit in his wheelchair.
It was Ellinor!
Ellinor was wearing hospital clothes; her forehead was wrapped in bandages, and her face was pale, but her eyes were bright, and she seemed in good spirits.
What the heck was going on? Was she a ghost or something?
Seeing Putnamâs reaction, Ellinor quickly said in a hushed tone, âDonât be scared, Grandpa. Iâm real.â
Realizing that his reaction was a bit much, Putnam frowned, âWhat the hell is going on?â
Veronica stepped forward from behind Ellinor, âGrandpa, thereâs a reason for Ellinorâs situation. Itâs a long story; Iâll explain everything once we get home. Basically, Ellinor didnât mean to scare you or Grandma.â
Putnam glanced at his granddaughter, then at Ellinor, as his expression slowly relaxed, but he still grumbled, âSuch a troublemaker, canât we have one day of peace?!â
Ellinor smiled, âSorry. Iâm sorry for making you worry.â
Putnamâs expression froze. He lifted his chin and turned his face, âWhoâs worried about you? Iâm worried youâll scare Marissa to death!â Ellinor looked at the still-sleeping Marissa, who was frowning deeply in her sleep and looking pained.
She felt a pang of guilt and went over to hold her grandmaâs hand, murmuring, âGrandma, itâs me, Ellinor. Donât worry, Iâm okay.â
Marissa seemed to hear her, causing her eyebrows to twitch. She struggled to open her eyes, but when she did, her weary and worried eyes seemed to have brightened, âEllinor, is that really you? I thoughtâ¦â
Now that Grandma was awake, Ellinor quickly sat by the bed so Grandma could see her clearly, âGrandma, itâs really me. Iâm totally fine.â
Marissa held Ellinorâs hand in return, feeling the warmth of her hand, which slightly calmed her down, but she soon became worried again, âEllinor, the baby in your bellyâ¦â
âThe baby is completely fine too. Weâre both okay, Grandma. You can rest easy.â
Finally relaxed, Marissa held Ellinorâs hand tighter and tried to sit up.
