âI already told you, Iâm fine! How come itâs just you? Whereâs Ida?â
From what she knew about her two buddies, they should both show up.
Chase grinned and said, âIdaâs off getting some pastries from your favorite bakery. That place is always buzzing, so they had to stand in line, and I ainât one for queuing, so here I am.â
They? There was someone else?
âWhoâs Ida queuing with?â Ellinor asked.
Belinda handed a cup of water to Chase, âMr. Larios, have some water.â
âThanks.â Chase took the cup of water gracefully, then answered Ellinorâs question, âSheâs in line with my girlfriend.â
The word âgirlfriendâ felt like a needle to Belindaâs heart. She doubted her own ears and looked at Chase in disbelief.
Chase just gave Ellinor a smile, âThey should be here soon! My girlfriendâs nervous about meeting you, so be nice to her. Donât badmouth me in front of her, or Iâll be embarrassed.â
Ellinor had met many of Chaseâs girlfriends, so she wasnât surprised; what caught her attention was Belindaâs reaction.
She knew Belinda had feelings for Chase, no matter how much she was advised against it. Hearing about Chaseâs girlfriend should be quite a shock for her, right?
Sure enough, Belindaâs eyes welled up, and she looked lost.
Veronica asked at this point, âHey! Belinda, whatâs up with you? You look like youâve seen a ghost?â
Belinda, feeling embarrassed, looked down and mumbled, âSorry, I need to use the bathroom.â
With that, she turned and bolted.
Ellinor was worried when she saw this, and she told Veronica, âGo check on her; she doesnât look so good. I hope itâs nothing serious.â
Veronica reluctantly said, âEllinor, youâre not trying to get rid of me so you can have Chase to yourself, are you?â
Ellinor frowned, âQuit joking around! Go check on Belinda; donât wait until something happens and your brother comes looking for you!â
The mention of her brother scared Veronica, and even though she didnât particularly care for Belinda, she did as she was told.
Once Veronica was gone, Ellinor looked at Chase seriously. âDid you do that on purpose?â
Chase innocently shrugged, âNot at all! I genuinely brought my girlfriend to see you; youâll see her soon. I promise, sheâs even prettier than the last ones.â
Ellinor frowned in disapproval, âI couldnât care less about your fleeting girlfriends! Iâm asking why you intentionally brought her here in front of Belinda?â
Chase raised his hands in surrender, âI had no idea sheâd be here. If Iâd known, I wouldâve come at another time. But itâs no big deal; let Ms. Wesley take a good look at my beautiful girlfriend, so sheâll get over her unwarranted crush on me. Isnât that what you wanted?â
Ellinor looked helplessly at this unrestrained young man. âI told you to let her get over you, not to crush her spirit! Do you think what you just did didnât hurt her?â
