Sophia put on a surprised face and asked, âDo you have any proof? Without evidence, you canât just accuse me! I just wanted to see Ellinor. Theo is long gone, and as his long-time friend, I wanted to see his woman and child.â
She even pretended to cry.
Balfour wasnât swayed by her tears. He was in a hurry to see Ellinor and didnât want to waste time on Sophia. âEnough. Youâre not welcome here, and Ellinor doesnât want to see you either.â
Sophia, seeing that Balfour didnât give a damn about her feelings, shot back. âMr. Howard, whatâs your deal with Ellinor? What gives you the right to speak for her and prevent me from seeing her?â
Balfour replied coldly, âI have every right. As for my relationship with Ellinor, thatâs none of your business, and Iâm not going to tell you!â
With that, he stormed off into the water room.
He thought Sophia would follow him in and continue her rant, but she didnât.
He quickly filled a jug with water and didnât see Sophia in the hallway when he came out.
Without giving it a second thought, Balfour hurried back to Ellinorâs room.
But Ellinor was no longer in the bed; only the blanket was left.
Balfourâs pupils suddenly shrank. He dropped the jug and quickly called the hospital, demanding they seal off the exit and find Ellinor..
However, Ellinor had already left the hospital.
She was still in her hospital gown. Having left in such a hurry, she didnât have time to change.
She hid at a crossroads far from the hospital, pulled out her cell phone, and was about to call Chase when a red sports car pulled up in front of her.
Ellinor was on alert. She was worried it was Balfourâs people trying to take her back, so she instinctively started backing away.
It wasnât until the carâs window slowly rolled down and Sophiaâs alluring face appeared that she realized it wasnât Balfourâs people.
âEllinor, get in. Iâll take you to Theo!â
Confirming it wasnât Balfourâs people, Ellinor relaxed a bit. But she didnât trust Sophia.
Sophia knew she was on guard, so she explained, âI know you probably want to call your friends Chase or Ida to pick you up, right? But they wonât take you. Theyâll only send you back to the hospital.
They knew about Theoâs situation long ago, but like Balfour, they kept it from you. How could they possibly take you to Theo?â
Ellinor frowned slightly. âWhy would you take me then?â
âI want to take you because, like you, I canât believe Theo is just gone. I want to go to the crime scene and look for clues. Iâm not familiar with this place, and there are many words and phrases here I canât understand. With you, we might be more efficient.â
As Ellinor was staring at Sophia, she heard Byran calling.
âEllinor! Come back! Donât wander off! Come back!â
Crap! If she didnât get in the car now, she might get dragged back to the hospital.
She quickly turned to see Býran chasing after her. Ellinor didnât have time to think; she hurriedly opened Sophiaâs car door and got in.
Being pregnant slowed her down significantly, and Byran was almost on her. Luckily, Sophia was quick enough to step on the gas and leave Byran in the dust.
