Chapter 1349Chase took a long, hard look at her and then remained silent. Meanwhile, in the front row.
Ida had raised the partition between the front and back rows, but the soundproofing was lousy. She heard every word the two in the back were saying. Served Chase right! She pulled out a box of fancy ladiesâ cigarettes from her pocket, took one out, and was about to light it up when the car door abruptly opened. Byran stomped in and snatched the cigarette right out of her hand. Ida frowned. âWhat the hell are you doing?â Byran, with a stern look, said, âI donât like you smoking.â Ignoring him, Ida took out another cigarette, only for Byran to snatch it again. âLadies shouldnât smoke!â Ida was getting annoyed.
âWho are you to tell me what to do?â Byran solemnly said, âIf I donât, then who will? Iâm your boyfriend!â
Ida chuckled. âDonât flatter yourself. I never rejected you, but I never agreed to be your girlfriend either.â
Byran scowled, âWhat are you blabbering about? I am your boyfriend; weâve been intimate.â Ida adjusted her glasses. âIâve been intimate with more than just you; are they all my boyfriends?â She took out another cigarette, dodging Byranâs hand in anticipation, lit it, took a drag, and then blew a puff of smoke at Byran. âListen, kiddo, if you canât handle the heat, then donât play the game. Itâs not fun when feelings get involved.â Byran frowned. âIâm not playing games with you!â Ida smirked and took another puff. âBut Iâve been playing games with you.â Byran gritted his teeth in disbelief. âYouâre talking nonsense! You said you liked me.â Ida scoffed. âOf course, I like you! Who wouldnât like a young manâs body? But youâre not the only one I like. I like all young men.â Byran was furious. âYouâ¦â Ida, puffing on her cigarette, glanced at Balfourâs commercial vehicle in the distance. âDidnât Balfour try to stop you from coming here?â
âEven if he did, it wouldnât matter. I can listen to him, but not when it comes to you. Ida, donât worry about my family not approving us. Ellinor is my sister. She will help us. Ellinor has a lot of influence over Balfour; as long as she agrees, he wonât object.â Ida took a drag nonchalantly. âEven if your family agrees, Iâm not marrying you, kid. Donât overthink it.â Byran was angry, but more importantly, hurt.
âWhy? Why wonât you marry me?â Ida looked at him through the smoke, not entirely serious. âBecause I havenât had enough fun playing games.â Byran gritted his teeth; heâd never been treated so flippantly.
But in the end, he managed to keep his cool. He took a deep breath and said, âThen Iâll wait until youâve had enough. Itâs no problem. Iâm young, and I have plenty of time to wait for you.â Ida paused for a moment and then looked at Byran thoughtfully. âWhy do you like me?â Byran snorted. âI have no idea.â Ida smirked. âYou express your affection so boldly without knowing what it is you like about me?
Maybe youâre just not thinking straight.â Byran muttered angrily, âYouâre the one whoâs not thinking straight. Iâm perfectly clear-headed.â
