âJust as I picked up Barber, I happened to see Byran running out to take a taxi. Since I was with Barber, I couldnât stop him.â
As he thought about the places his disappointing younger brother might go, Balfour couldnât help but rub his temples, feeling a headache coming on.
âSend a couple of guys to get him home. Donât let him bother other people.â
Quinton nodded. âSure thing, Mr. Howard, Iâll send someone to bring Byran back right away.â
Byran took a taxi to where Ida lived.
He rang the doorbell upstairs for a while, but no one opened the door. He called Ida, but she didnât pick up. After thinking about the intimate scene he had seen between Ida and a man at the Crescent Society this morning, his mood became extremely unstable.
Helpless, he called Chase Larios.
âWhatâs up, Byran?â
Chase picked up the phone, but it was very noisy on his end. It sounded like he was in a nightclub.
Byran asked irritably, âWhere are you? Why is it so noisy? Why hasnât Ida come home yet?â
Chase chuckled. âI knew it! You wouldnât call me for no reason. So, youâre looking for Ida, huh?â
Byran was not in the mood for jokes. âCut the crap! Do you know where Ida is?â
Chase laughed. âSheâs with me. Weâre at Twilight Bar. Wanna join?â
Hearing that Ida was at the Twilight Bar made Byran frown unhappily. âWhy did you take her to the bar?
Tell her to go home immediately! Tell her Iâm waiting for her at the door!â
Chase laughed helplessly. âByran, youâve got it all wrong. It wasnât me who brought her here. We used to come here for drinks before we knew you. Besides, sheâs my boss. I canât control her. If you want to find her, come to the Twilight Bar yourself.â
After that, Chase hung up the phone without giving Byran any chance to speak.
Byran was very frustrated. It was getting late, and if he didnât go home, his brother might scold him.
But if he didnât see Ida today, he wouldnât be able to sleep all night.
After hesitating for a while, he got into a taxi and headed for the Twilight Bar.
Byran had been to the Twilight Bar before, but he didnât go alone; usually, he would go in with Jonah and the others, so even if his brother found out, Jonah would cover for him.
Today, he was going to enter the bar alone. He hesitated at the door, afraid that the bouncer wouldnât let him in.
However, he realized that he was already an adult. What was there to be afraid of?
He walked up to the entrance of the Twilight Bar, and sure enough, the bouncer stopped him and asked him how old he was and whether he had brought his ID.
Byran was slightly annoyed. He felt that his 6-foot-tall frame and mature look did not make him look like a minor. It was so annoying!
This made him more aware of the age gap between him and Ida, making his mood even more irritable.
What frustrated him the most was that he had forgotten to bring his ID and couldnât prove that he was an adult.
In the end, he had no choice but to call Chase to come and get him.
