When she heard him completely shatter her hopes, Sophia chuckled bitterly. âTheo, donât get me wrong. Weâve already broken up, and I have no expectations of you. I just hope you can do me a favor before you leave, okay?
After being burnt once, Theo was now cautious of anything she asked of him. âWhat favor?â
Sophia propped her chin up with a slightly annoyed look. âThereâs this guy who has been pursuing me for years. Now that Iâve given up on you, Iâm considering him.â Theo agreed. âYeah, that sounds good.â
Sophia blinked her eyes and looked at him earnestly. âTheo, if you ever considered me a friend, could you check him out for me? Heâll be here to pick me up soon. You guys know each other better, right?
Can you help me see if heâs trustworthy and if heâs sincere to me?â
Faced with Sophiaâs reasonable request, Theo glanced at his watch and found that there was still time.
If Sophia found someone suitable, Thaddeus would stop targeting Ellinor.
So, Theo nodded. âSure.â
Back home.
Ellinor received a photo from Theo. It was an airplane ticket that said he was leaving at around eleven today.
She opened the photo, and her heart started pounding.
Was the issue resolved?
A flight today meant Theo would be home by this time tomorrow.
She excitedly gripped her phone as her hanging heart finally fell. Yet she couldnât completely relax until Theo was truly home.
âWhatâs got you so happy?â
Suddenly, a hand gently patted her head from behind. Balfour came around and sat down in front of the couch, looking at her with a teasing smile. Ellinor snapped back to reality and became expressionless.
âAm I happy?â
Balfour reached out and lightly pinched her nose. âArenât you? Your eyes look like youâre eagerly anticipating something. Are you thinking about that guy Theo again?â
Ellinor couldnât control herself and blushed. She didnât respond to his comment but asked, âMr. Howard, why didnât you go to work yet after breakfast? Donât feel like working today?â
Balfour was pleased that he could now chat with his sister like friends. The awkwardness they used to have was gone. But he still had work to do to get his sister to naturally call him brother.
âThereâs nothing much to do this morning. Iâll leave later. What do you want for dinner? I can bring it home for you.â
Ellinor shook her head. âWhatever is okay. I donât have any cravings. Could you pick up some cheese sticks for Baber on your way home? Iâll send you the address later. The shopâs stuff is handmade, so there are no additives.â
Balfour frowned. He felt a bit sorry for his sister.
This girl was tough when she needed to be tough, but she was also soft too.
Baber was an adopted child, but not her adopted child. He was Patriciaâs, the woman who brought her nothing but trouble. Yet she still treated Baber like her own child. She really cared about him.
Balfourâs eyes were full of sympathy and tenderness as he nodded with a smile. âOkay, send me the address later, and Iâll bring them home tonight.
