Just as she predicted, it was this woman who was maliciously inflating the price.
The plot of land was owned by Sophiaâs father, and she was pretending to be a customer to bid up the price, just to increase her own familyâs profits.
In the auction world, this was absolutely against the rules.
Sophia, thinking that it was just a waiter coming in, didnât look up. She merely sipped her coffee in contemplation. âJust leave the things and go.â
After giving her instructions, she didnât receive the polite response she expected from the waiter. It was then that Sophia realized something was off. She looked up, and her eyes widened in surprise.
âEllinor?! What are you doing here?â
Sophiaâs first reaction was surprise and disgust, followed by a hint of guilt in her eyes. She quickly glanced behind Ellinor, afraid that her husband and son might walk in.
The corner of Ellinorâs lips curled up in a sarcastic smile. âDonât you think your actions are pretty low, Ms. Sophia?â
Sophia frowned at the comment. âWhat did I do? Ellinor, are you here to pick a fight because youâre feeling bitter about being single?â
Ellinor stepped into her private room and gently closed the door.
âThe Blue River Estates land. Itâs owned by your family, right?â
Sophiaâs eyes darkened at this question. âWhy are you asking about this? What does it have to do with you?â
âIt has everything to do with me because I was the one who just won that land in the auction for a hundred million!â
Sophia paused. âYou? So, it was you! Canât afford the price, so you came to pick a fight with me? If you couldnât afford it, you shouldnât have bid against me. Now you want to back out after the gavel fell?
Thatâs illegal!â
Ellinor let out a cold laugh. âYouâre talking about whatâs illegal? You came here to inflate the price of your fatherâs land in the auction. Do you think thatâs legal?â
Sophia rolled her eyes. âDo you have any proof that the land belongs to my father? If not, I suggest you leave immediately, or Iâll call security.â
Sophia was feeling nervous, not about what Ellinor was accusing her of, but worried that her husband and son might come back and see Ellinor.
That would complicate things.
Ellinor frowned slightly. âI donât have any evidence at the moment, but I wonât let you take advantage of me. After the auction, we can discuss with the head of the auction house whether the price is valid or not.â
Sophia vaguely heard the sound of her husbandâs wheelchair and hurriedly said, âGet out! This is a private room! You have no right to be here!â
Ellinor was just here to confirm her suspicions. She didnât want to waste time arguing with Sophia. She gave her a quick glance and then turned to leave.
When the auction was over, she would settle the score.
As Ellinor walked out, Marcus and their son returned.
If Ellinor had left a moment later, they might have bumped into each other.
But as she walked out, she headed in a different direction without glancing at Marcus.
They had missed each other again.
She didnât see him, but he saw her.
Marcus squinted his eyes slightly as he watched Ellinor leave the room in a seemingly unhappy state.
As if something were tugging at his heart, he couldnât take his eyes off the womanâs retreating figure.
Adrian also saw his mom coming out of the room and blinked his eyes guiltily.
Why would Mom come out of Dadâs room? Was she there to catch him?
