Ellinor shot him a glance. âJust for fun. You used to be like this with me. Now itâs my turn to tease you.â
Marcus slightly furrowed his brows, remaining silent.
He didnât remember how he used to treat this young lady, so he couldnât respond.
At that moment, a cell phone rang. Ellinor picked it up and answered.
Because it was quiet on the balcony, even without the speakerphone on, Marcus could hear the manâs voice on the other end of the line.
âEllinor, where are you?â
Ellinor looked thoughtfully at Marcus before answering. âAt a friendâs place. Whatâs up? You need something?â
Bartlett replied with a smirk. âDidnât you say last time that you wanted to check out Rex Enterprisesâ
property in Blue River Estates? Letâs go. I can take you there now.â
Ellinor glanced at her wristwatch. âSure. Where should I meet you?â
âWhere are you? Iâll pick you up.â
âNo need. Iâll meet you there.â
âAlright, Iâll send you the location.â
âOkay.â
After ending the call with Bartlett, Ellinor put her phone into her pocket, looking ready to leave.
Marcus watched her with mixed emotions. âGot a date?â
Ellinor stood up. âSomething came up. I need to go. Be careful when you take a shower later, and take care of Adrian for me.â
With that, Ellinor moved to the edge of the balcony and gracefully hopped over.
Marcus felt a heaviness in his chest as he watched Ellinor leave. He was inexplicably irritated.
The call was from a man, and the way they spoke with each other didnât sound like they were just professional acquaintances.
They seemed close and were very friendly to each other.
When Adrian came back after setting up the bath, he couldnât find Ellinor anywhere. He started looking around for his mom.
âWhereâs Mommy?â
âShe left.â Marcus responded with a heavy tone.
Adrian was disappointed. âWhat? Mommy left without even saying goodbye?â
Marcus coldly laughed. âShe was in a rush to meet a man. She doesnât care about anyone else.â
Adrian was taken aback. He tilted his head, sensing that his usually aloof dad seemed off. âDaddy, are you⦠jealous?â
Jealous?
Marcus was startled. Was this uncomfortable feeling jealousy?
Ellinor arrived at a bar to pick up Bartlett.
With his charming smile on full display, Bartlett got into Ellinorâs car and buckled up. âEllinor, thank you for going out of your way to pick me up.â
Ellinor shook her head to indicate it was no trouble. After glancing at the barâs sign, she commented, âMr. Rex, you sure lead an interesting life. Why are you drinking at a bar in broad daylight?â
Bartlett didnât hide it. âA few friends wanted to meet here for a drink. I barely had a sip before I called you. It was a good excuse to duck out.â
Ellinor wasnât particularly interested in his life. She didnât react, only asking, âWeâre headed to Blue River Estates?â
Bartlett nodded. âYes.â.
