Adrian glanced around cautiously before answering. âIâm not trying to make a run for it. I just want to take a look upstairs. Iâll be right back.â
Lea looked baffled. âWhat are you going to look for upstairs?â
Adrian explained, âAs you know, Iâm not Tristan. I think I just heard my momâs voice coming from upstairs. I want to see if sheâs here.â
Lea was taken aback. âYour mom is here?!â
Adrian raised a finger to his lips, signaling her to lower her voice. âIâm not sure. Thatâs why I want to check. Aunt Lea, could you cover for me while I sneak upstairs? Iâll be back in no time.â
Lea rubbed her chin thoughtfully before saying decisively, âNo way!â
Adrian furrowed his brows, looking quite disappointed. âWhy not?â
âBecause I promised your dad that Iâd keep an eye on you and not let you wander off on your own.â
Adrian objected. âIâm not wandering off. I just want to take a peek. If my mom isnât there, Iâll be right back.â
Lea raised her eyebrows. âAnd if your mom is there? Are you going to go home with her then? How am I supposed to explain that to your dad?â
Adrian stuttered, realizing that his plan might not be the best. âEr⦠even if I see my mom, I wonât go home with her. Is that okay?â
Lea responded firmly. âNo way! I always keep my word. I promised your dad that Iâd keep an eye on you, and Iâll make sure I do so.â
Adrian became angry. âHmph! I thought you were different from Sophia and her family. I didnât expect you to be just like them. You donât understand other peopleâs feelings at all. Iâll never call you Aunt again!â
Lea was amused by his grumpy expression. âHahaha⦠I thought you were going to threaten me with something serious. So, you wonât call me Aunt anymore? Fine! I wonât lose a wink of sleep!â
Adrian glared at her. âFine, you win! I wonât go to the restroom anymore since I canât sneak out anyway.
Iâm going back to my dad.â
Lea reached out to pinch his chubby cheek. âWait a minute!â
Adrian slapped her hand away with a disgusted look. âWhat? Since youâre not willing to help me, donât touch me. Weâre not close, you know.â
Lea, undeterred by his rejection, reached out to pinch him again. âHahaha! Youâre so cute and chubby, but youâve got quite the temper. I just said you canât wander off alone, but I didnât say I wouldnât help you.â
Adrian looked at her suspiciously. âYou wonât let me go find my mom, so how can you help?â
Lea raised an eyebrow. âI wonât let you go, but I can go upstairs and see if your mom is there for you.â
Adrian wrinkled his brow. âYouâll go for me? You donât even know my mom. How can you tell if sheâs there?â
Lea didnât know his mother, but she had a strong hunch that she would recognize her if she saw her.
âI might not know your mom, but I know what you look like. If I see a woman upstairs who has similar features to you, I can tell that sheâs your mom.â
Adrian wasnât convinced. âIâm a boy, and my momâs a woman. We canât possibly look that similar!â
Lea confidently waved her hand. âThatâs where youâre wrong! We girls have a very accurate sixth sense. If your mom is really upstairs, Iâll definitely be able to recognize her at first glance.â
