Ellinor had had enough. âWould you please leave?!â
Bartlett, with a defiant grin, shrugged nonchalantly. âSure! Youâre done with your meeting, right? Letâs go check out Blue River Estates together and have a proper work chat.â
Ellinor wasnât interested in accompanying him anymore and waved him off. âWe donât need to check it out. Go right ahead and set up whatever you want, as long as it doesnât exceed a fifth of the land.
She simply didnât want to deal with this man, who could be so unpredictably annoying.
Bartlett, having waited up till now, wasnât about to give up. âEllinor, youâve kept me waiting, and now youâre going to give me the slip?â
âIâve agreed to all your demands. Arenât you satisfied? Or do you want me to inspect the place, find problems, and reject your proposal? Would that make you happy?â
Bartlett was overly confident. âI want you to come with me, see the place, and realize how visionary my proposal is. You might even start to like me. Ellinor, I have absolute confidence in my proposal, and I believe you wonât reject me.â
Ellinor forced a smile. âIâm not rejecting you. Now leave; weâve settled this!â
Upon seeing Ellinorâs obvious desire to avoid him, Bartlett paused in buttoning his shirt. âEllinor, are you really going to force me to run wild? You can tell Iâm not the type to care about dignity. If you donât come with me, Iâll run out disheveled and claim that you, a high-ranking executive of the Blanchet Corporation, have harassed your partner!â
Ellinor was speechless.
Bartlett pretended to head for the door, causing Ellinor to feel a throbbing pain in her head. To avoid more trouble, she quickly grabbed him. âFine, Iâll go with you!â
âThatâs more like it, Ellinor! Come out with me, so you can relax a bit.â Bartlett swiftly finished buttoning his shirt and slung his jacket over his arm. âLetâs go then.â
Ellinor sighed in resignation. âWait a moment; I have to inform my secretary about some matters.â
Bartlett shrugged. âAlright, no problem. Iâll wait for you at the elevator.â
âOkay.â Ellinor responded and went back to her office to brief her secretary about the follow-up work.
Bartlett wasnât worried about being stood up. He knew Ellinor well enough to know that once she made a promise, she would keep it.
When Ellinor finished her work and came out, Bartlett was still waiting lazily at the elevator. His handsome eyes formed a pleasing curve as soon as he saw her.
Ellinor ignored him and walked over to press the elevator button.
Bartlett followed her into the elevator and glanced at her. âWhy the long face? Are you that upset about going out with me?â
Ellinor huffed. âYou know Iâm not happy, yet you wonât let it go. Letâs cut the chatter!â
Despite her cold reception, Bartlettâs smile widened. âI like your frankness. Youâre not like other girls who put on a front when they see me.â
Ellinor glanced at him. âHow do you know theyâre not genuine? What if theyâre serious about you?â
Bartlett shrugged and crossed his arms. âThen I wouldnât be interested. I donât like them; I like you.â
Ellinorâs eyes turned cold, and, at this moment, her distaste for him was clearly evident. âI donât like you.â
Bartlett laughed instead of getting angry. âThe more honest you are, the more like you.â
Ellinorâs mouth twitched, and she stopped talking.
Bartlett wasnât an ordinary man; he could turn any conversation into a flirtatious one.
As they exited the elevator, Bartlett started to head for his car, but Ellinor stopped him.
