The receptionist, seeing the commotion, quickly stepped in, âMadam, you canât just barge in here.â
Tessa, redâfaced with anger, pushed past the receptionist, attempting to storm through the turnstile, but it wouldnât budge.
The receptionist, unable to stop her, called out loudly for security.
Two guards approached one on either side and hoisted Tessa up, ready to escort her out of the building.
Struggling in vain, Tessa saw she was about to be thrown out and shouted, âIâm Ivyâs mother. My daughter Ivy has connections with your CEO. If you toss me out like this, the CEO wonât let you off the hook.â
1 2 3 As fate would have it, Nolan was just returning to the office.
He had planned to ignore the ruckus in the lobby, but when he heard the woman claim to be Ivyâs mother, Nolan couldnât help but stop.
âLet her go,â Nolan approached with a hint of a smile, âMadam, did you just say youâre Ivyâs mother?â
Tessa rubbed her sore arm and sized up the man before her, âYes, Iâm Ivyâs mother. And who might you be?â
âIâm the CEO of Harris Group, the very person youâre looking for.â
Hearing that the man before her was the CEO of Harris Group, Tessaâs face performed an extraordinary volteâface, plastering on a smile, âMr. Harris, itâs you. Iâm Ivyâs mother, and I came to inquire about Ivyâs wellâbeing.â
Though Nolan wasnât quite sure why Tessa came to him about Ivy, he courteously led her to his office out of respect for her being Ivyâs mother.
âPlease, take a seat,â he offered, pouring her a glass of water, âWhat would you like to know about Ivy?â
Tessa glanced around the opulent office, her aspiration clear in her eyes.
Most importantly, being treated so cordially by the CEO of such a large company made her feel like she was on top of the world.
This was the first time in her life sheâd been treated this way, and it felt incredible.
âIâve been calling her, and she wonât answer. Knowing she knew you, I had no choice but to come here,â Tessa said, a tinge of resentment coloring her words about Ivy, âShe really knows how to worry a person.â
In her tone, Nolan sensed Tessaâs dissatisfaction with Ivy.
He wasnât privy to the details of Ivyâs family life, but it seemed there was more to the story.
âIvyâs been quite busy lately, and she might have missed your calls. How about I call her over?â
Tessa, realizing Nolan held special regard for Ivy, smiled and nodded in agreement.
Nolan dialed Ivy then and there, and the phone connected quickly, âHello, Ivy, are you free right now?â
âNolan, whatâs up?â Ivy was busy at her computer, applying for jobs.
Nolan glanced at Tessa, who was sitting across from him, âYour motherâs at my office. She said sheâs been trying to reach you and couldnât.â
âWhat?â Upon hearing that Tessa had gone to the Harris Group, Ivy dropped what she was doing, shocked, âShe went to your place?â
