Clara had never expected to hear words of praise coming frorn a queen of the screen like Giselle!
âGiselle, youâre making me blush with all these compliments. I think youâre giving me too much credit.â
Giselle shook her head and said, âNot at all. Thereâs a world of difference between having genuine charisma and faking it. Nowadays, so many actors are marketing themselves on this supposed âcharm, but you canât turn a fake into the real deal, no matter how hard you try.â
As Giselle spoke, Clara was reminded of all the online adulation her sister Ivy received.
She nodded emphatically, âThese days, with enough backing, even a dog can be touted as having charisma.â
âHa, you hit the nail on the head!â Giselle laughed. âA talent like you not getting her break is truly a loss for the industry.â
Sighing, Giselleâs demeanor softened, a hint of worry for the state of the industry.
Clara felt a pang of self-pity. âGiselle, to have your recognition is more than I could ask for. We little actors, we just need that one stroke of luck. If only a veteran would take us under their wing, we could really shine.â
Clara gazed at Giselle, her eyes almost begging for that very chance.
After a moment of thought, Giselle suddenly asked, âIf Iâm not mistaken, donât you have a sister?â
At the mention of Ivy, Claraâs brows knitted as if she could squash a fly between them.
âUh⦠How do you know about her?â
âWell, Iâve seen some of your sisterâs work and heard a few whispers about her in the industry.â
Clara was curious, âWhispers? Like what?â
âYouâre her sister, and you donât know whatâs going on with her?â
At the mention of Ivy, Claraâs expression turned frosty, and she leaned back, putting distance between herself and Giselle. âGiselle, to be frank, my sister and I donât get along. Not all siblings have to be close; everyone has their own way of getting along with each other.
Besides, she moved out ages ago, and with her cutting ties, how are we supposed to know what sheâs up to?â
Giselle caught on; Clara was unaware of Ivyâs marriage to the Howard family.
âThatâs a shameâ¦â Giselleâs furrowed brow did not escape Claraâs notice.
âWhatâs a shame?â Clara asked, puzzled.
Why would someone like Giselle take such an interest in Ivy?
âDonât you know? Sheâs got a powerful backer now. Thatâs why sheâs got so many opportunities!â
âWhat?â Clara was so shocked she almost fell across the table. âWhat are you saying? That canât be right. You must be mistaken. How could Ivy possibly have a backer?â
Giselle rolled her eyes behind her sunglasses but sighed heavily. âIt seems Ivy really hasnât told your family a thing. Sheâs got a wealthy patron supporting all her ventures. Otherwise, how do you explain her sudden rise from a mediocre actress to stardom after just a bit of a buzz? Canât you see that?â
Clara listened, her heart filling with even more discontent.
Where did Ivy get such a formidable supporter? And why her?â
