Reginaâs hunch about Domingo being Imogenâs ex-husband wavered as she pondered over 1.
âDomingo wasnât always rolling in dough,â Nolan said. âFrom what Iâve heard, heâs only come into money over the past few years. The guyâs a mystery but cuts through the red tape like a chainsaw.
Heâs got this street cred for being loyal, and thatâs got him a whole entourage. Heâs stacked his chips high in no time. I really dropped the ball there. If Iâd done my homework before we went in on that plot of land, I wouldnât have walked right into his trap.â
Nolanâs words sent a chill down Reginaâs spine. This Domingo character sounded like a real piece of work-a hustler through and through!
No wonder Imogen was plotting her way to the top after getting tangled up with him.
The two sat quietly on the couch, exchanging the clues they had gathered, looking as cool as cucumbers.
Domingo watched them through the surveillance feed and let out a sneer.
âThis pair really thinks theyâre something, huh? Theyâve been keeping their cool, aside from some initial panic. Acting like theyâre in their own living room. Mr. Skinner, keeping Mr. Harris cooped up in there doesnât sit right with me. Didnât Imogen say just dealing with the girl would do the trick?â
Domingo gave him a frosty glance, and immediately someone nudged the speaker, âGot rocks in your head? Mr. Harris came in with that thorn in our side. If we just take out the girl, you think Mr. Harris wonât come after us for the rest? I say we go whole hog and take care of them both. The Harris Group wonât miss one with all their money and power. We can smooth over the land deal then too. What do you say, Mr. Skinner?â
After blowing out a cloud of smoke, Domingo cracked a satisfied grin, âYouâve been with me the longest. You know how I think. Iâm itching to see what this legendary Mr. Harris is made of. Heâs trapped in my VIP room and still acting tough? Letâs see how long that lasts.â
âAll right, lead the way-â
The other two scrambled ahead, eager to clear a path for Domingo.
Meanwhile, Regina and Nolan were still piecing things together when Reginaâs sharp ears picked up some noise outside.
âShh, keep it down. Someoneâs coming.â Reginaâs face tensed, and by the sound of it, they werenât alone.
Nolan moved in front of Regina, his voice low and steady âIf things go south, you get behind me and make a break for it, got it?â
Regina gripped his wrist, shaking her head frantically, âNo way, weâre in this together. I canât just leave you behind.â
Nolan offered her a wry smile, âDonât count your chickens. Whether we can even get out is up in the air.
Remember this-if one of us makes it out, the other stands a chance of being saved. Besidesâ¦â
âWhat is it?â Reginaâs earnest gaze made Nolan hesitate. He had a sinking feeling that Domingo might just be the heavy Imogen had called in to take down Regina.
