Imogen couldnât help but chuckle, âIs he kidding? How could anything happen to her just because sheâs coming home? Maybe Regina had a spat with him and thatâs why sheâs not picking up his calls. Does he think somethingâs happened to her because of that?â
Francis, clearly running out of patience, replied, âEnough with the questions, just wait at home. Thatâs exactly what I told him when I called, but he just wouldnât believe it. He even threatened me. I really donât know if he even considers me an elder!â
As he spoke, he was already heading downstairs, with Imogen following, arms crossed, and a look of disdain on her face.
Who in this house even sees him as a real elder?
He should take a look at his own behavior, clinging to Nolan like a leech, refusing to let If it werenât for the sake of the baby she was carrying, she really wouldnât approve of Francisâ actions.
But since Nolan had reached out to Francis, it seemed like trouble was indeed brewing.
Instinctively, Imogen thought to check on Madeline. If something really had happened, she needed to know her daughter was safe under her watch. But to her surprise, when she knocked on Madelineâs door, no one was there!
She had told her recently not to wander off given everything that was happening. How could she not be back by now?
Fuming, Imogen dialed Madelineâs number, clueless about her daughterâs whereabouts. From the other end, a burst of noise came through.
After a moment, Madeline seemed to find a quieter spot before answering.
âHello, Mom, whatâs up?â
Imogen furrowed her brows, raising her voice, âWhat are you even doing? Do you have any idea what time it is? I told you not to go out these days, and you donât listen. Now that witch has gotten herself into trouble, and youâre my precious girl, what if something happens to you too?â
âOh? Really?â Madelineâs voice sounded unsurprised.
âMadeline, why do I get the feeling you think I knew Regina would get into trouble? Where are you right now? I want you back immediately. You better not let me find out you have anything to do with this.â
Hearing Imogenâs stern tone, Madeline quickly responded with a laugh, âMom, youâre thinking too much. I just thought, given Reginaâs job as a journalist investigating all sorts of messy stuff, itâs not unusual for things to happen, right? Itâs obviously dangerous, and she refuses to have a bodyguard.
How is this my fault? What could I possibly do? Since you want me back, Iâll just say goodbye to my friends and head home, okay? You canât get angry now, youâve got my little brother in your belly. Donât worry, Iâll be home in twenty-five minutes.â
Hearing Madelineâs words, Imogen finally felt relieved.
It wasnât that she didnât want to confront Regina, but now that she was married to Nolan, she couldnât gauge his feelings towards Regina.
If those two actually hit it off, wouldnât making a move on Regina be too risky?
One way or another, it was crucial to figure out Nolanâs true feelings towards that woman before taking any action.
