The speaker blared, and a stern voice of a police officer came through âEllinor, someone found your wallet and phone this afternoon, and they used your ID to check into a hotel. Can you swing by the police station to confirm these are your things and to see if anything else is missing?â
Ellinor responded politely. âSure, got it, thanks, sir!â
âNo worriesâ
After hanging up. Ellinor looked at Veronica calmly, âThatâs it? Getting my lost stuff back is a scandal now? Veronica, you thought the police were reaching out to me for a huge issue?â
Veronica was speechless This was not what she expected!
The police contacted Ellinor just because she lost something?
âEllinor, glad youâre good, so glad! You did give me a fright!â Marissa let out a sigh of relief.
Then, the old lady turned her head, looking at her trouble finding granddaughter with annoyance, âVeronica, whatâs wrong with you recently, always making a mountain out of a molehill Stop shooting your mouth off!â
Veronica wouldnât take it, accusing Ellinor, âGrandma, Iâm not talking nonsense! Even Collin found out Ellinor was at the hotel today! And the woman in the news video was obviously her! Why else would she be dressed just like the woman in the video!â
Indeed, Ellinorâs outfit was the same as the woman in the video, but she remained calm and unflustered, âMy clothes arenât some limited edition or anything. Itâs not unusual to have the same outfit.
But Veronica, why are you trying to smear me, linking me to some negative news story?â
Veronica snorted, âIs it me smearing you, or are you guilty as charged? You checked into the hotel, and youâre dressed just like the woman in the video. What a coincidence, huh? How do you explain that?â
Ellinor responded innocently. âThe police just made it clear on the phone, someone used my ID to check into that hotel. I lost my wallet, ID, and phone when we were shopping this afternoon Couldnât reach you, so I came back home alone.â
Veronica chuckled, âEllinor, youâre blatantly lying!
Her explanation might fool grandma, but not Veronica!
She personally saw Morgan take Ellinor to the hotel this afternoon, how could it be as Ellinor claimed Ellinor raised her eyebrows, âVeronica, you seem pretty sure I went to that hotel? Did you see it with your own eyes? Were you at the hotel too?â
Confronted with the question, Veronica faltered, âI Why would I go to a hotel! I didnât!â
She did see it, but she couldnât confess, or she would expose herself!
âEllinor, Veronica has always been spoiled by me, sheâs stubborn! Donât mind her. Iâll give her a good telling off!â Marissa tried to mediate One is her beloved daughterâinâlaw, the other is her cherished granddaughter. She loved them both deeply. It was tough for the old lady. She gave Veronica a disappointed smack, âVeronica, youâre in the wrong here, apologize to your sisterâinâlaw right now!â
Veronica naturally didnât want to apologize, but things were going beyond her control, she felt a bit lost.
Without solid evidence against Ellinor, Veronica had no choice but to heed her grandmaâs words, reluctantly saying, âAlright, I guess I was wrong today, I apologize!â
Ellinor looked at her calmly. âIâm sorry, I canât accept an insincere apology:
Veronica was extremely angry, exclaiming. âEllinor, Iâve already apologized, what more do you want?
Donât push it!â
âVeronica, you canât be so disrespectful to your sisterâinâlaw!â Marissa scolded sternly.
Veronica was defiant, discontentedly saying. She is fit to be my sisterâinâlaw? I will never accept a person from the countryside as my sisterâin-law! Sheâs a lying schemer! Trying to latch onto my brother!â
âEnough! No more disrespectful words!â Marissa was so angry she wanted to slap her, but she couldnât bring herself to do it, this was her own spoiled granddaughter after all!
Veronica knew her grandma wouldnât hit her, becoming even more arrogant, pointing at Ellinor and yelling, âIâm speaking the truth! She is a country bumpkin!â
Marissa was speechless, âYou..â
Ellinor, worried that Marissa would get angry, walked over and gently patted the old ladyâs back, âGrandma, donât be mad, I wonât stoop to her level, but I wonât forgive her either.â
