Xenia and Patricia thought theyâd covered their tracks well. They hoped Ellinor hadnât caught on to anything.
At that moment, Patricia was still kneeling on the ground. Seeing Balfour and Ellinor standing together, she became irritated and instinctively on guard. âDidnât you go to office? Why did you come back?â
Balfour had heard the slanderous things Xenia and Patricia had said about Ellinor in front of their grandparents. He already had a distaste for his stepmother, Xenia, and that only added to his dislike.
Seeing his once beloved sister Patricia, disappointment filled his eyes.
âEllinor said she had something to discuss with you, so I came back.â Balfour responded.
âEllinor, youâ¦what did you want from me?â Patricia got up from the ground, blinking her eyes in confusion at Ellinor.
Ellinor just gave her a cool glance, not answering for the moment. She turned to the two elderly people, politely nodding her head and saying, âGood morning, Grandpa Dean, Grandma Alyssa. Sorry to bother you again.â
The two elders still had a soft spot for Ellinor. They hoped she wasnât as bad as what theyâd read on the internet.
Dean remarked to Ellinor, âEllinor, donât be formal. Sit down and tell us whatâs on your mind.â
Alyssa nodded, âYes, sit down and weâll talk.â
âAlright, I wonât hold back then.â Ellinor smiled, going over to sit on the singleâseat sofa next to them.
Being pregnant, she got tired from standing too long.
Then she lifted her head, looking at Patricia standing on the side, âMs. Howard, why donât you have a seat as well? We can talk things over.â
Patricia frowned, feeling uncomfortable with Ellinorâs assertiveness. But she had to put on a gracious front.
She forced a smile and elegantly sat back down on the sofa, demonstrating her hostess demeanor, âAlright. Ellinor, make yourself at home. Someone, bring Ellinor a drink!â
Ellinor did not hold back, âI donât need any drinks, just a glass of water will do.â
Balfour was silently observing the situation as he sat down on the chair that a servant had offered.
When the servant brought the water, Ellinor took a drink to moisten her throat before asking. âMs.
Howard, did you go out this morning?â
Patricia was taken aback, âNo! I slept late last night so I just woke up.â
Ellinor took another sip of water, raised an eyebrow and asked, âReally? Then why did someone see you in the park outside, carrying a black suitcase?â
Hearing this, Patriciaâs expression shifted, âWhat? Ellinor, who told you this? How strange! I havenât left the house today. They must have mistaken someone else for me!â
Ellinor smiled, clicked on her phone a few times, then turned the screen around for everyone to see, âBut the person in this photo is clearly you, Isnât it, Ms. Howard?â
