The Third In Command

Explaining my new found 'powers' to Nathaniel was a little bumpy. He was just as upset as Alexander if not more. He too thought it was a stupid unnecessary decision.

He resembled a parent who didn't know just how to scold their child who missed curfew and returned home the next morning.

His mouth would open and close like a goldfish and I wanted to laugh but knew he would not appreciate that nor laugh along with me. So I kept my mouth shut until he took a seat and placed his head in his hand.

Then I really felt like a scolded child, I would spring up with any conversation just to check if he would respond to me. He did, so I knew I wasn't in the dog house.

Looking at him through my lashes I ask, "Will you teach me all you know or not?"

"I'm not sure I can, Eli. You're a dark witch, I'm not."

Eventually I had to get back to the witch talk, however, this wasn't stuff I wanted to hear.

"Are the things that different?" I yell, exasperated.

"Yeah." He scratches the back of his head.

If things were this different why would Mariska let me come all the way back home with normal or whatever they're called witches. If she obviously knew they would be no help to me or the mission. This is so freaking stupid.

"Maybe you can ask her. You said she said you would be channelling her. So, maybe in your thoughts, you should call out to her." Nate offered.

I nodded.

Mariska? I kinda need your help with this whole learn-how-to-be-a-dark-witch in order to defeat Ivan mission.

'Elijah. Why don't you ask your mate for assistance? He is still half dark witch.' She responds in an instant.

'Why haven't you taken that away? It haunts him all the time.'

He might have thought she was dead but she knew full well she wasn't and that this thing was eating him up wherever he was. Why hasn't she done anything about it, poof over a potion or something?

'Oh please, he could easily control it. His temper is what messes him up. Any other wolf would be dead living with a dark witch within them for so long. He can obviously do it.'

'How am I to learn anything, Mariska?'

'Once you go to bed I will make sure you know how. You need not worry, I have thought this through. Because if this fails by the slightest chance we are most definitely dead. And while I care not about your life, I do care about mine.'

She slipped away after that response, I couldn't reach out to her anymore.

What a rude old lady.

Also, did he have to keep repeating that she doesn't care about my life? I mean, I get it lady, genuinely, I do.

"And?" Nathaniel presses, realising the faraway look in my eyes had vanished.

"She said I have nothing to worry about." I shrug.

He rolled his eyes, "Mariska is a world-class liar."

"She might be. But she most definitely doesn't want to lose her life. So, I trust she will go through with this and go through with it correctly."

He rubbed the back of his neck, "I guess Alexander told you..."

I knew he was talking about the entire Yuko situation and I wanted to spare him the embarrassment so I just nodded. He didn't have to get into it, as surprised as I was to hear it, I didn't need to hear it twice.

"He did. I can't believe you were stupid once upon a time." I crack a smile.

He laughs, "That's what sticks with you."

"Yeah. I mean, your mate being half dark witch is nothing." I wave my hand dismissively.

I was upset with Alexander. I can't believe he thought it okay to leave that out. That's most definitely something you tell your mate. I'm a little disappointed in Nate for not possibly persuading Alex into telling me. I deserved to know.

You know how much time we could've saved and how much of this whole runaround we could've avoided if he had just told me? I would have known and I never ever would've thought he hated me, in fact, he wouldn't have even needed to be that cruel.

I could've been moved in in a matter of weeks, he still would have attacked my Pack, I probably would've still been hesitant but I could have helped him with the switches and we could've actually been together.

Most importantly, I wouldn't have gotten shot.

"I sure hope those are your real thoughts on the matter." Alexander walks into my room.

We were in the room Alexander had set up for me in his house. I haven't slept here yet but I still really do love it. The crystal chandelier and the glamorous feel of it still makes me really proud of Alexander. He outdid himself.

There's an entirely new carpet in here, of course, I wouldn't have expected Alexander to keep that old one. This one is more of a rug, I can see the hardwood floors now with the rug only extending a bit after my bed.

"Oh trust me, they're not." Nate quips.

"How would you know? My thoughts are blocked."

"You didn't put up the barrier after speaking with Mariska." He smirks.

I sigh.

Alexander looks at Nathaniel and I can tell what the look says: Get out.

Nate rolls his eyes and walks out, "See you later, Ellie."

I look up at Alexander, "Yes?"

"You're mad?" He questions.

"Yes."

"Why?" He sits beside me.

I'm immediately taken back to the day I was shot. We were in similar positions. In this exact room, the only difference is now we were facing the window. I could feel my body beginning to shake.

"Liah, what's wrong? Why are you – Oh, god no. This isn't the same room, Liah. I changed it. I would never take you back there."

My eyes scrunch up and I take a look around. Like really looked around and I could see the small but huge difference. No wonder this actually has a floor.

The view wasn't even the same, here I could see the pool meaning I was now right above Alexander. I smiled a little, knowing that I was closer to him.

The shaking ceased. I let out a small chuckle.

"Goddess, I'm disgusting."

His cocked his head back, "What?"

"A room, that's all it took for my body to shake like a leaf. A freaking room. I'm so freaking weak now." I put my head in my hands.

"You're not. We'll get you to training. If you like, you can train with me."

"I would." I smiled, "I'm still mad at you though."

A knock on the door closed his mouth just as he had opened it to respond.

"Luna?"

A heavily tattooed, petite, curly black haired girl popped in. She stood with her hands behind her back.

"It's just Elijah." I smile, "And you are?"

I rose to my feet to greet her.

"Mia."

I extended my arm so she could shake it, "Nice to meet you, Mia. What can I do for you?"

"Alpha," She pointed at Alexander, "Wanted me to take you to the training ground."

I looked at him, "You're right here. Why would you need Mia to take me?"

He was walking towards us, his long strides bring him beside me in a matter of seconds. He placed his hand on my back and spoke.

"Kyrie, my Beta, needs me."

"Oh."

He leaned toward me and left a soft kiss on my forehead, "I'll come for you."

He moved away from me after that moment and walked out, leaving Mia and I alone.

Mia shut the door, "Are you really the Luna?"

"Not quite." I shrug, "I'm just going to go get dressed."

I walked over to my closet and changed into Adidas yoga pants and sports bra. I came out with a towel in hand. I sat on my bed to get my trainers on.

"You're going to train dressed like that?"

"Yes," I wasn't that skinny anymore I thought this would be okay, "Are my bones sticking out?" I hands roamed my body, frantically searching to feel any protruding bones.

"Oh shit, I forgot. No! No! I swear that's not it. You look healthy, I promise. It's just there will be males too. I don't think Alpha will appreciate..." She trails off, her hand gesturing to my clothing.

"He'll be okay." I wave my hand dismissively and she nods.

"I truly am sorry for saying –"

"It's okay." I smile at her.

We arrive at the training ground and it's massive, acres and acres of grassland equipped with everything a wolf would need to train. There's a gym with weights and whatnot that you must pass to get to the training ground.

Then the grounds itself have a few things here and there too and not to mention the vast emptiness filled with mats for sparring.

"Here we are." She smiles, "I apologise, they're not used to outside faces, they might stare and whisper for a while."

"You're the only one who knows?" I ask.

"And Beta Kyrie." She must have seen my confused face, "I'm the Gamma. That's why I know."

My face must have looked worse than it did before because she laughed. I couldn't believe Alexander actually made a female his third in command.

"Surprising huh?"

"Yeah. Not to say he's sexist... I just never thought he actually would do that. I mean, you must be freaking great."

She laughed even louder than before which had everyone turning to look at us. This made me freeze immediately feeling uncomfortable with all eyes now on me. The whispering began and I suddenly felt even more self-conscious.

I haven't worn something this revealing since I woke up. I thought I was fine, that I wouldn't really mind. I didn't think being as thin as I was when I woke up would play with my mind this much.

Mia smiled at me, "You don't look bad. You look like you can kick ass. Let's spar."
