The Betrayal
Elisha.
I had become accustomed to my days alone in this Pack, it all happened incredibly fast. Elijah's waking, her moving, the battle in Russia. One day I blinked and it was all happening.
I was happy she was with her mate and happy, I just missed her immensely at times. Wishing I still had her here with me so that she was within reach but I guess that's just what comes with growing up.
I shook my thoughts away as I got back into my book, turning the page of my The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, as soon as I read the first sentence I cringed. It was the part where Finnick unfortunately dies.
I cried the first time I read it. I love Finnick, I mean, who doesn't? I feel like the character was made to be loved. Anyone who doesn't love him is... odd.
"Hey, Elisha." Ezekiel sat beside me on the park bench.
The park was a really peaceful space, I hoped that he wasn't here to bother me. I only come here so I can not be bothered and have some time to myself.
I looked up from my book and smiled at him, "Hi, Zeke."
Zeke and I are okay again, he's physically unable to stalk my sister, so she's in the clear. I wouldn't say we were friends again â he was still slightly annoying â but we were okay. I tolerated him.
He cleared his throat, "How's Eli?"
"Okay... Why?" I raised a brow.
Goddess, here he goes again. Since Eli left, he won't stop asking about her. It was incredibly annoying. I'm her sister, not her keeper. I just knew he couldn't be here for anything else but to bother me.
I thought that once he had acceptable that she has left the Pack Zeke would proper back off but he hasn't and refuses to. Everyone else in the Pack has come to the understanding that she is gone, assuming she met her mate. Why can't he?
His eyes dart around, "I haven't seen her lately."
I look up at him, "Lately? It's been like three months." I chuckled, "She's not living here anymore. I thought everyone had figured that out by now."
That's all he needed to know. It was liable, the only time an Alpha makes a public announcement about a Pack member is if they're entering the Pack, his mate, someone else's mate or they have passed away. Not if they leave, so even though Eli is close to Alpha Jay, doesn't mean he'll tell the Pack publicly.
If he were in wolf form his ears would have peeled up, "She found her mate?"
I give him a deadpan look, "No, she just decided to be a rogue." I roll my eyes, sarcasm dripping from every word.
He laughs, "I'm just trying to figure this all out before Bridgette does."
"Figure what out?" I say, exasperated.
There was nothing to figure out, Bridgette was just fishing for information that she assumed would turn the Pack against Eli. I never understood why that girl still spent her time hating Eli, you have a mate â you're telling me there's nothing better you want to be doing then sending him out to get information for you?
"That Elijah left to join her mate in The Howlers." He deadpans.
Why does it matter? Is what I really want to say but alas she hasn't told the Pack â I wonder if she ever will. Instead, I revert to pretend shock.
"The Howlers?" I repeat, 'dumbfounded.'
"Yes. That's what she thinks." He looks at me, as if waiting for my facial reaction to slip up.
I shut my book once I've placed my placeholder, "Gossip is still a thing? Wow. Well, since your mate is dying for the latest news, why don't you tell her this âI'm pregnant." I stand up and begin walk away.
It took everything within me not to blow up and march away like the hormonal wolf I am at the moment.
My pregnancy wasn't a secret but it's not something I would have told Zeke personally. However, his mate was really barking up the right tree.
Unfortunately, Zeke caught up, "Are you really?"
What a relentless son of a...
Sighing I ask, "Are you really going to spread it around?"
He shakes his head, "No."
"Yes, I am." I smiled.
This would have happened sooner, but my sister was in a coma and I just couldn't function. Nevermind, carry a pup. I didn't want to endanger the life and I didn't want to endanger myself any further. I just knew it wasn't going to work out.
Those were the hardest eighteen months of my life. I've never gone a day without her, without speaking to her. I had to go on without her, I had to celebrate a birthdays without her, a year that was supposed to be her pick.
When I had to spend that birthday alone, it felt as though she were dead, as though I had already lost her. I don't ever want to experience that ever again. The pain and suffering was just too much.
I had felt the bullet, when it hit her. That's why I had gotten to the room so quickly, the pain was sharp. There was no way I could ignore it. However, I couldn't feel it or anything from her after that point.
When she was in her coma, I couldn't feel a thing. It was radio silence from her side. It was awful, when she woke up it was the greatest most relieving feeling in the world.
Now, she's awake, got her wolf back â although I fell pregnant before she got the wolf back â and everything seems to be going good for her. I couldn't be happier for her.
Goddess forbid.
She was the first one to find out after Nicholas and I found out, that's why when she left for Russia I didn't go with her. Neither did Nicholas, she didn't want anything to go wrong or the pup to lose a parent.
Zeke smiled too, "Congratulations."

"So he was asking about her, again?" Nic sighed.
Even Nicholas was tired of all the questions, honestly, anyone would be.
Usually he would make smalltalk and beat around the bush, I'm surprised he jumped right into it today. I guess it saved me the energy.
I was sat on a recliner couch with my eyes shut, "Yeah."
"What did you say?" Nic continued preparing our dinner.
He's been really cute since he found out about the pregnancy, two months ago I've been bathing in the glory ever since. I could pop out his six pups if this is the treatment I get.
I'm totally kidding, he and I both know I could never.
"I told him about the pregnancy."
He raised a brow, "Excuse me?"
"I told him if he's mate wanted gossip she could spread around that I was pregnant. He asked if I'm serious I said yes. He said congratulations." I shrug.
"Oh my goddess." He face palmed, "We need to get to Alpha Jay."
I snapped the sofa back into place eyes going wide, "What? Why!?"
"Him asking you if you were serious about the pregnancy was him asking if you're serious about Eli! He probably thought you understood too."
How could that be right?
"So? He said he won't tell."
Nicholas narrows his eyes at my naïveté, "His mate? That girl, who despises Eli? Sure."
Nic stood up from his seat at the table, shaking his head. Muttering to himself as he switched off all the stoves and took off his apron.
He got his coat and walked to the front door, "Well, are you coming or not?"
I sighed, knowing that I was doomed. Nicholas was angry and I was truly doomed. I hadn't thought that he was asking cover up questions. Freaking hell, I'm normally so on point. How could I have missed this?
We got out the car and knocked on Alpha Jay's door. Luna Josephine opened the door, "Elisha, Nicholas, hi. What brings you here?" She smiled, opening the door wider.
Stepping in he answers, "We came to see Alpha Jay."
"Oh, okay. I'll go fetch him, just wait in the living room." She dissappeared into the other room.
We made our way to the living room, I couldn't help feel like a naughty child all over again as we sat there, "Nicholas, it was an honest mistake â"
"Just be quiet, please baby."
I silently chuckled, he's still cute and polite I'm not completely in the dog house.
"Elisha, what â" Alpha Jay froze, "You're pregnant? Goodness, do you or your sister care that I helped raise you douches, therefore, I would like to be informed on milestones like these too. I hope that's what you came here for, actually. To inform me."
I wanted to laugh, Alpha Jay would never let that down now would he. Sometimes I forget he's as young as he is. Ever since he stepped into his role I suppose I've drawn away, afraid of overstepping and still thinking he's Jay my babysitter not Alpha Jay.
"I wish, Alpha." Nicholas started, "Elisha let it slip that Elijah's mate is Alexander Russo."
The small pouty face he had made vanished, "You what!?" Jay did not sound impressed.
"It was a mistake! And chances are, Ezekiel wasn't even smart enough â"
"Bridgette bullies the poor boy and he doesn't even realise. He's probably already told her and she will most definitely tell the Pack. We have to stop her, I'll go." Luna Josephine, rambled out.
She kissed Alpha Jay on the cheek, grabbed her car keys and hastily made he way to the front door just as she twists the doorknob the link rings in my head and I'm certain every Pack member.
'Announcement Pack: Elijah Azaliah Vilakazi is a traitor. She has left the North Pack to join her mate Alexander Russo in The Howlers â the Pack that once tried to destroy us.'
Bridgette's voice speaks, as smooth as velvet but as deadly as a fucking king cobra.
All eyes were on me, I just screwed over my sister.
