Chapter One: updated and edited 2025
When i first found out that my younger sister and i were moving to Forks, i couldn't have been happier.
I believed that moving to Forks could be a new start, a new beginning, a new place with new people.
I wouldn't have to worry about my old friends finding out about my secret anymore- moving to Forks no one would know me.
As i continued packing my things into my suitcase, i begin to recall the first time i felt different.
It was last year... that's when i first changed.
I was on a walk and before i knew what was happening someone came up behind me. They tried to rob me, but instead got the shock of their life when the anxiety and anger caused me to transition.
I stayed shaking in that alley for hours, unsure what to do, not knowing what was happening to me.
I haven't told my family. I wasn't sure how to even go about it.
They would think i was a freak, unordinary... weird. They probably wouldn't even believe me, but i often concidered asking my Mum about it all.
Surely it must have come from my Dad, it was the only logical explanation. I never knew him... i never knew if he was like me.
"Katelynn!" Will you come and help your sister load her things into the car please?" I hear a shout up the stairs from my Mum.
I quickly zip up my case and begin to rush down the stairs
After coming to terms with what i was, i began to realise the benefits of my condition- one of them being i am extremely strong.
It comes in handy when hauling things like my life inside of a suitcase, packed and ready to leave for Forks.
I walk out the front door and load my case into the trunk of the car before i turn and grab Bella's case from her.
I shut the trunk door and i put my hands on my hips, walking around the side of the car to see Mum.
"Still as strong as ever" Mum says as she playfully places a hand around my bicep
I smile as i chuckle "What can i say... those gym classes have been paying off"
Not going to lie. I found them super easy, but i started taking them least year when i needed to put my strength down to something believe able.
However i am still cautious. I don't lift things that i know i easily could, but boxes and suitcases i could pass off.
Mum moves her hand as she places them both on my shoulders. She stands in front of me as she looks me in the eyes.
"You don't have to do this, you know" She says in seriousness
"Mum, i really want to, I'm excited, i promise" I say "If not because i know how much you want to travel, then because i need a new start... after the mugging I've never really felt safe" I lie
"I know how difficult life has been for you since then... i wish i could turn back time and convince you not to go on that walk" She mutters
But I kilowatt that it was the best outcome... if i hadn't gone on that walk then i might have transitioned that night inside the house.
She kisses my head as she removes her hands from me
"And don't worry, it's not forever... i will be moving back in with you and Phil after your travels, remember" I say "And don't worry about it... I'm fine now"
She wavers, not sure whether to push me or not, as we both I know I'm lying.
She doesn't have to say anything, in the end, as Bella's voice is heard from inside the car we stand next to
"Don't kid yourself, K. You've been quieter since that night" She says as i smile at Mum and drop into her car next to my sister.
"Besides, i have a feeling- i think it's what people call mothers intuition- that you might like it over with Charlie... you might not come running back to me after all" Mum says
"If you want to keep us away then all you have to do is say so" I say as i buckle my seatbelt with a laugh.
She rolls her eyes as she shuts the door.
"You ready?" I ask Bella as we start to pull out of the driveway, Phil driving us to the airport.
Bella nods as we both wave to our Mum
"As I'll ever be" She finishes.

After going through the airport, i spot Dad, waiting by the side of his Police car for us and i run up and hug him.
"Why'd you have to bring the Police car, it looks as if you are taking one of us to jail" I say, laughing
"Maybe i might have to, you never know" He says "Have you got stronger, kido, or has your sister and i grown weak?" He mutters as he pulls away from our embrace
"It would be the first one" Bella says "Our K's been working out"
Bella moves her arm in a 'weights-lifting' motion and Dad laughs.
He claps his hands, after a minute, and turns to us.
"Now, whos sitting in the back like a hostage and whos sitting up front?"
"I'm front!" Bella and i shout at the same time.
"I think you'd better let K go in the front Bell's, Knowing her strength, she could probably win if you wrestled her for it"
