Chapter 24: Grom Night Pt. 1

Human OrphanWords: 19597

Heads up, all of the outfits are from the Grom episode, except just take out Luz's skirt and replace them with purple dress pants. So she's basically in a tux.

I hate part 1+2 but I had like 4,000 words before I even had Luz and Amity arrive at the dance. I want to make the next chapter long like this one.

Hope you ENJOY Grom night!!!

***************************

School ended a couple of hours ago, and let's just say Amity's anxiety just carried on. Amity met up with her older siblings after parting with her human, until later tonight. Emira and Edric notice their younger sister's discomfort and try to cheer her up with some playful banter. "Say, Ed? You want to make a bet?"

Edric smirks at his twin, catching on quickly "Sure. What did you have in mind?"

"Well, let's make a deal. Whoever kisses their date tonight, gets out of their house chores for two months!" Emira side-eyes Amity to see if she caught her attention.

It's a slight movement in her ears, but Amity was listening. Edric continued on "Why stop at two months? Make it six! I'm tired of cleaning my room. Being a perfectionist can be so hard!"

Amity furrows her eyebrows and turns to her siblings "You guys don't do chores! You always make an excuse and I end up doing them! And Ed, you are many things, but a perfectionist is not one of them."

Ed and Em share the same devious look and Emira says "Then accept the bet. Unless you're too scared to lose."

"Come on Em. You know Mittens. She wouldn't dare participate in one of our silly bets." Edric says as he walks away, trying to manipulate Amity into accepting. "She's above all of that."

"Yeah." Emira follows her brother "You're probably right. Besides, Amity doesn't have the guts to do it anyway."

Amity had it. It felt like steam was shooting out of her ears due to her built-up anger "HEY!" Ed and Em stop but stay turned away, both smiling, knowing they just succeeded. "You're on! But make it a year!"

The twins turn simultaneously and smile towards the young witch. Together they agree and all shake on it. The three Blight kids then turn back to continue their journey towards the owl house to notify Eda about Luz being the Grom queen.

~~~
Back at the castle, Luz changed into her Grom outfit and just stared at herself in the mirror. She's all alone in her chambers, staring at her own reflection. She sighs and bows her head and says quietly, but out loud "I'm going to regret this later..." And with that, Luz sits down and closes her eyes to concentrate deeply.
*****
Now Luz is in the throne room, sitting in front of a trapped Titan. The Titan just looked at the human, smiling and waiting for her to say the first words. Luz groans and grits her teeth "Titan Belos."
The Titan keeps his smile and just smugly says "Luz." He was not going to ask why she was here, because he already knew. He wanted her to ask.
"Really?" Luz looks at the chained Titan with regret inching up her spine.
"You look nice. Any particular reason for this visit?" His voice is full of amusement. He's enjoying this way too much.
"You know why I'm here." Luz is going to avoid at all costs, asking for help. At least that what she thinks. The Titan shifts in his chains and just sits in silence, waiting for the human to finally ask. The two are intensely staring, one with disgust, and one with pure joy. Luz balls both her fists as tightly as possible and grits her teeth once again "I... Need... Your... Help..."
The Titan composes himself a little longer for the full effect "With...?"
Luz now extremely embarrassed, and pissed rises above her ego and finally gives in "I need your help using your magic. As you know, I'm facing off Grom tonight, and I'm going to need magic to defeat him."
The Titan looks at the human and smiles in victory "That wasn't so hard was it?" Luz turns her head, avoiding all eye contact "Now, let us begin. First, you will have to wake up and actually listen to me." Luz looks back at the Titan and rolls her eyes but complies.
*****
Luz opens her eyes and waits to hear the voice in her head to instruct her. The Titan takes his sweet time, knowing he has all the power to do so "Sorry my dear. You know, all these chains slow me down."
Luz talks to the mirror, staring at herself with dull eyes "Can we just get this over with. If I fail, then in a way, that means you fail as well."
The voice laughs "Oh Luz. I can teach you how to control my magic. But only you can face your own fear. And might I add, your biggest fear is gruesome so good luck."
Luz widens her eyes "You know my biggest fear? What is it?"
"Oh, my dear. You'll find out later. I just hope you take one of Roman's lessons to heart tonight. To beat Grom, suppress your emotions and just focus on defeating the monster. You can't risk your image tonight. If all of your classmates see that you're weak, then no one will respect you as a ruler." The Titan is trying to strike more fear into the human.
Luz mentally scolds herself for even asking. Why would she ever get a straight answer from the Titan? "Enough with your mind games! Are you going to help me use this magic or not?"
With that, the Titan gives Luz a crash course on how to properly use his magic. He taught her that she didn't need to draw circles in mid-air, but to only raise her finer with a clear mind and the only thought in her mind should be the spell she intends to cast. The Titan also taught that Luz can use her anger to her advantage and gain more power, but all the meanwhile risk losing control. But sometimes you have to take the risk of using more power than controlling it.
Luz was conflicted the whole lesson. Should she really be trusting the Titan's advice after everything he's taken from her? Why is he actually helping her? What's his true motive, or is he genuinely defeated and just wants to help? Luz couldn't shake the uneasy feeling, but also realized she doesn't really have a choice.
After a few hours, a knock on the door appears, startling the human. Luz gets up and walks toward the door to answer it. "Who is it?"
The door swings open to reveal Kikimora and a few guards. "Empress, it's time to depart for your school event."
Luz looks at the time, astonished at how fast the time went "Already? Ok, lead the way Kiki."
"Empress." Kiki waits for Luz to realize she doesn't have her staff "Aren't you forgetting your staff?"
"Um..." Luz looks at the staff lying on her bedside when the Titans voice appeared "You don't need it. You can show those witches you're more than a human that relies on a staff. Show them your strength." Luz nods to herself and faces Kiki "No. I won't be needing it tonight."
Kikimora reluctantly complies and leads the way to the royal carriage. Yes, they have a royal carriage, but Luz never liked it because the journey would take took long and it would just be boring.
~~~

Back at the Blight manor, Odalia and Aldor were acting completely crazy considering the events that occurred last time Luz visited. The staff was bombarded with orders left and right, while a few of the Blight parents' work friends came by to double-check the security of the manor. Edric and Emira snuck around, trying to cause trouble every chance they got. Their favorite gag is casting an illusion spell of Luz arriving early. Thankfully Aldor caught the twins playing their games and told them to go get ready themselves before their mother finds out and throws a tantrum.

With all of the commotion, Amity stands in front of her mirror, alone, examining every detail of her look for tonight. She was extremely excited, but at the same time terrified. The witch wanted to have a carefree night with the human she fancies but instead has to worry about Luz defeating a monster all by herself. She gets why out of everyone Luz was chosen but can't begin to comprehend what her worst fear is. It's not like the human is scared of a silly clown or a stupid bug.

Amity's mind begins to betray her as she thinks of the worst-case scenario. The green-haired witch is snapped out of her thoughts when the door creeks. "Wow, Mittens. Now I can see how we're related." Emira leans in the doorway, letting a comforting smile occupy her face.

Edric comes twirling into the room, ruining the genuine moment "Yeah really! At least mom and dad gave us their good looks. Took you a while Mittens but you finally look almost as good as us."

Amity smiles and finally turns from the mirror towards her older siblings. Sure they were a pain most of the time. Well, all of the time really, but when it really mattered, they've always been there for her. Sibling love is just different. One moment you contemplate how and when to murder them, then other moments you would literally jump through fire for them.

"Aw. You guys even color coordinate your Grom outfits." Amity thought it would be her turn to make a witty remark and get one over on the twins.

Emira smiles proudly while Edric gasps and puts his hand on his chest, pretending like he's hurt, when really he's extremely proud. "Ed I think it's time to start her training."

"Hm." Ed looks at his twin, then back at Amity like he's examining her "I don't know Em. I don't she's ready."

Amity only looks at her siblings amused, waiting for what's to come. Emira walks slowly into the room, continuing her devious stares with her brother "I don't know Ed. I think it's time."

The two nod and collectively step in front of their baby sister. Edric begins in an 'official' voice "Amity Blight. You have become less of a stick in the mud lately, and the council and I have noticed."

Emira nods being the only other member of the council "Indeed we have. Amity Blight, this is a one-time offer so listen extremely carefully." Amity does her best not to smile and just nods in silence, waiting for what's to come "As a Blight, we have a reputation to uphold in public."

Edric then starts to talk as if this speech was planned. I definitely was. "And that's a big responsibility. BUT as a Blight child, we also have a duty to have as much fun as possible, no matter the time and place while keeping our perfect child imagery."

"Do you Amity Phoenix Blight, agree to be the perfect Blight child on the outside while also a fun trouble maker in the shadows." Emira raises her hand as she's pledging.

Edric mimics his hand motion "This is a serious matter young one. If you choose to accept, we will still mess with you unconditionally, but you will learn to also mess with us to the point where we might sacrifice you."

Amity rolls her eyes and just laughs. This is one of those rare moments where she realizes she couldn't ask for better siblings. She raises her hand confidently and just smiles wide "I Amity Phoneix Blight, accept your offer to train me to be a Double-Blight."

Ed and Em cheer and engulf Amity into a big bear hug. They all fall onto the young witches' bed and are uncontrollably laughing. Edric breaks the laughter "That's a great name actually. Double-Blight. How come I didn't think of that?"

Emira pops her head up and agrees "Yeah! Good one Mittens! Oh, you're going to do just fine."

The three go back to laughing collectively on Amity's bed when a butler knocks on the door "Children." The three siblings stop laughing and look up towards the door, not yet getting up. "Your mother would like you to join her in the family room. The royal carriage has just arrived."

Ed and Em both shoot up with stars in their eyes "ROYAL CARRIAGE!!" They both run past the butler. And as expected, Edric trips and tumbles down the stairs followed by his laughing twin.

Amity smiles to herself "Thank you." She brushes herself off and walks calmly out of her room. She heads down into the family room where she is greeted by both parents and what seemed to be like twenty guards. "You think we have enough guards?"

Ed and Em laugh while Odalia scolds her "Amity! How dare you use that sort of tone. These are highly respected guards of the emperors' coven. Your future. Show them more respect."

Amity's smile is wiped off her face and is replaced with regret "Sorry mother. It won't happen again."

Amity joins next to her siblings only to receive a whisper from Emira "Lesson one. Know when and where to make a smart remark. One where mom or dad can hear is not a time for it."

Amity lets out a quaint smile. Emira winks at her and returns her attention back to the crowded room. A knock on the door appears and the whole manor goes silent. All the color from Odalia's face is drained and she fixes her dress, making sure she's presentable. The Blight mother heads for the door, only to be stopped by Amity. "Amity what are you doing?"

Amity looks at her mother and uses all the confidence she has "Let me answer it. It is, after all my date." Odalia looks at her daughter and then at her husband. Aldor shrugs and just stands still. Odalia then looks back at her youngest child and just gives her the go-ahead nod. Amity is completely shocked she wasn't just turned into a toad right then and there, but she couldn't show that. She turns away from her proud older siblings and towards the door. "This is it. Don't freak out when you see her. Say she looks nice no matter what!"

Amity reaches for the door, and opens it, revealing Luz in a purple and black tux. Amity was stunned by the view presented in front of her. How someone could so beautiful and adorable at the same time baffled the young witch. The two stared at each other with heat rushing to their cheeks, changing their normal hue.

Luz stood starstruck. When she knocked, she expected one of the butlers or an adult to answer. She was frozen in admiration of the witch standing across from her. She loved the dress with all that she could. Luz felt weird at the moment. Never has she encountered this feeling so intensely. Like a million spiders were fighting in her stomach.

A couple of seconds pass and Amity snaps back into reality, realizing she and the human are staring at each other in front of everyone. "Shoot! Think Blight! Say something!" Amity finally breaks the tension "You look nice. Strange but nice." "STRANGE!!! YOU STARTED OFF SO WELL AND YOU JUST HAD TO ADD STRANGE!!!" Amity was internally screaming at herself.

Luz laughs "Thanks Mittens. Not too bad yourself."

The two girls laugh, enjoying their moment, ready for the night to come. But before they can enjoy it further, Odalia steps forward and ruins the moment "Empress. It's a great honor to have you back after the last time you visited. Thank you for giving us a second chance."

Luz's gaze never leaves Amity. She speaks to Odalia but maintains eye contact with her favorite Blight "Yes. I'm glad to be back. Don't worry about last time, it wasn't your doing."

Aldor steps out of the crowd next to his wife "That's very generous of you Empress. Would you like to come in and have any refreshments before the dance?"

Luz finally manages to take her eyes off her date and looks in the Blight parents' direction "No thank you. I ate at my home before. If you don't mind we really should get going." Luz reaches her hand out towards Amity. Amity looks at the human's hand like it was forbidden to touch and she has been granted access to hold it. The witch smiles with the brightest red cheeks and willingly takes Luz's hand. Luz smiles as well and turns to Edric and Emira "You guys need a ride to Grom?"

Edric lets out a breath like he was holding it for years "YES! I honestly thought you weren't going to ask for a moment!" Emira shakes her head in embarrassment but smiles at the same time.

Odalia's eye twitches at her son's unprofessional outburst but contains herself with the touch of her husband.

The four teens walk out of the door with anticipation. Luz and Amity walk hand in hand towards the carriage, just blushing at each other, enjoying the moment. Ed and Em give each other the side-eye and whisper to each other "Em. Do you think we're going to have to do chores for a year?" Emira looks at the two younger girls to make sure they can't hear "I sure hope so."

The four got into the carriage. Edric tried sitting with the driver but Emira shoved him into the back with the rest of them. Amity has been as red as a shrimp since she intertwined fingers with Luz. Luz however was seemingly fine, just very confused about these new intense feelings.

Emira could see the two girls struggling to communicate, so she medaled a little "Luz, you're a little cutie in that outfit." Amity looks at her sister in disbelief then realizes that she's not flirting, but trying to make conversation. "Don't you think Ams?"

"Yes. C-cute." Amity is struggling to formulate a full sentence at the moment. "How am I supposed to spend a night with Luz like this?"

Emira mentally facepalms at her sister's aloofness and tries to help out more, while Edric admires the carriage "So Luz. Your Grom queen. How are you feeling?"

Luz smiles at Amity's panic and turns to the twin sitting across from her "I'm fine. I've been practicing my magic and I think I've got the hang of it."

"That's great to hear!" Emira looks at Amity "Don't you think Mittens?" Amity nods and smiles. Emira realizes she has to really snap her out of it for her to function tonight. "Hey, Ed. Remind me of the bet we made earlier? I can't seem to remember it."

Ed turns to his twin and raises his eyebrow. Amity takes a second to process what her sister just said and widens her eyes almost immediately. "Really? The bet was whoever kis-"

Edric is cut off by Amity shouting "THE BET HAHAHAHA." She nervously laughs out loud trying to shut her brother up.

Luz looks at the three and tilts her head "A bet? What's the bet?"

Emira takes a breath to explain but is cut off by Amity "IT'S NOTHING... It's nothing." Amity decides to change the subject as fast as possible "Luz I think it's important you know that Eda and Lilith are chaperoning the dance. I just don't want you surprised when they're there."

"Oh, thanks for the heads up." Luz once again is lost in Amity's eyes. The yellow hue is comforting to the human.

Amity finally settles down and takes a deep breath. She wants to avoid Emira getting any ideas so she continues the conversation. "So your outfit is from the human realm. What was it like?"

Emira smiles, mentally patting herself on the back for another successful plan. As Luz opens up about her adventure with Eda, Amity swore she saw the human's eyes sparkle. Luz's story had all of the Blight's attention the rest of the carriage ride. Amity enjoyed Luz being so happy about shopping with Eda. Luz left out the part of the missing persons' flier. She didn't want to ruin the fun atmosphere the four were in.

While the four teens were laughing, enjoying their time together, the carriage came to a stop. A guard opened the door "Empress, we've arrived." Luz squeezed Amity's hand and Amity reciprocated. Edric and Emira jumped out and started towards the school doors. The human and the witch got out together and stood still for a moment, taking the time to enjoy every second of tonight.

"You ready." Amity looks into her humans' eyes with determination to have fun.

Luz smiles in a flirtatious way "With you. Always!"

I would just like to say, writing the Blight siblings gives me LIFE. I have an older sister and brother so I relate GREATLY!! They're not twins but they really act like it. I'm the youngest with all of my parents' high standards thrown upon me. I basically just write real-life encounters at this point. I hate them most days, but in the long run, they always got my back! Because of them, I had the guts to ask out my current boyfriend. This chapter is dedicated to them <3
