Amity shuffles in her seat, continuously tapping her finger against her desk, waiting for the scream to sound in the halls signaling the end of her lecture. She glances at the empty seat next to her, wondering what Luz is doing lately to keep her so busy. The young Blight, stares at the chair, imagining the human's eyes shining in the light from the windows. A smile creeps up on the witch's face, hoping to gaze in those chestnut brown eyes once again. Amity looks back at her teacher, but her mind wonders what Luz could possibly be doing to keep her for so long? It's not like the human to not even text about her day. The witch glances back at the seat, wondering if Luz was ghosting her, or if something was wrong.
"Amity." The teacher calls out the Blight's name, grabbing her immediate attention "Could you tell me what an abomination lacks? One example will do."
Amity sighs in relief, knowing the answer to the simple question "It lacks emotion, and the ability to think for itself. It has no free will, so it will do anything the spell caster commands it to do with no hesitation."
The teacher smirks and turns back to the blackboard to write down the witch's answer "Very well put Miss. Blight. Correct as always."
The teacher continues his lesson, writing down useless notes while the green-haired witch looks back at the empty seat. She sighs, knowing Luz would have given her the biggest smile because she got the answer right. Luz would always smile at the witch, making any day brighter with her beauty and goofiness. Finally, after a long boring class, the bell screams throughout the school, dismissing the students from their last class of the day. The Blight gathers her belongings and heads to her locker to grab the rest of her books to go home.
While she walks alone to her locker, a pink-haired figure appears to her side, striking up a conversation "Do you think my Pensta follower's really appreciate my selfies? Sometimes I feel like my pictures are too good to share with everyone."Â Boscha walks by the Blight's side while her head is buried in her scroll. Amity rolls her eyes at her friend's vanity "Oh, and are you coming to my Grudgby game tonight? It's the semi-finals and I want to show you how much you're missing out on since you quit."
"I'm not sure. I have to see what's going on. My mother and father have been on edge these past two weeks for some reason. Plus, I haven't seen or heard from Luz since our date either, which was also two weeks ago!" Amity's gaze falls to her feet while Boscha continues to walk beside her, this time her gaze leaving her scroll and looking at her friend confused. "I'm starting to think something's wrong at the castle, and my parents aren't telling me about it."
The two reach the green-haired witch's locker "So you're telling me, Luz finally asked you out and to be her girlfriend, only to just disappear?" Boscha staches her scroll away now giving Amity her full attention. "I'm sure Luz is just busy with empress stuff. Trust me that human is like, head over heels for you. What I don't understand is why she hasn't at least texted or called."
Amity grabs more books from her locker "I know! Our date was magical. Like it was out of a book. At least, I thought it was perfect... Maybe Luz didn't feel the same way. Or maybe Luz is in trouble? Probably not, either Lilith or the Owl Lady would make a big deal out of it by now." Amity summons an abomination and commands it to carry her books for her, then she closes the mouth of her locker and turns back her attention to the pink-haired witch "I don't know. Do you think I'm just overreacting?"
Amity looks at Boscha with concern traced in her voice. The three-eyed witch tries to maintain eye contact to try and comfort her best friend "Am, listen, I'm totally sure that if anything was wrong, either Luz or your parents would tell you. Plus, Luz is like the most powerful being on the Isles! Nothing could really hurt her. I bet she misses you a lot and can't wait to see you again." Boscha smiles and throws her arm over the green-haired witch's shoulder, guiding them to the exit of Hexside "Now, let's go meet up with half a witch and Augustus and all hang out. Wouldn't that make you feel a lot better?"
Amity lets out a small smile, while playfully scoffing "Mmm, so much better." The Blight says in a sarcastic tone "Constantly watching you and you're girlfriend flirt while I talk with Gus about human stuff, only reminding me of my human girlfriend."
"That's the spirit!" Boscha laughs and summons her scroll to take a selfie of the two witches leaving school "Oo that's a good picture Am! I'm going to caption it 'Bad Witches!' Oh my, Titan! People are literally going to wish that they were us. I mean who wouldn't want to be this good-looking?"
The two witches exit their high school and walk around, looking for two other particular witches. Amity rolls her eyes at the three-eyed witch captioning her selfie "How your mind works, I will never understand."
Boscha laughs and posts the picture "Oh Am, it's called confidence and it's an art I've been mastering my whole life. Not my fault I was born perfect! Speaking of perfect, HEY FLOWER!"
Willow turns around at the nickname with a noticeable blush across her cheeks. The plant track witch seemed to be carefully holding a glowing plant in a pot "Hey Bosch, Amity, What's up!"
"Not much! Whatcha got there? It would look amazing with one of my outfits!" Boscha smirks at Willow, then gazes at the young witch beside her only for a moment "Oh hey Augustus!"
Gus waves at the pink and green-haired witches before examining more human trash. Willow's blush does not falter while she talks to Boscha "This plant is not for decoration. This is called a Sleeping Demon." Willow holds up the pot, showing off the blue flower's beauty "It's a rare flower that can knock out anything for a whole hour! Nothing too big or too small."
While Boscha doesn't listen and just stares into Willow's glasses, Amity raises an eyebrow, intrigued by the flower's power "How rare are they?"
The plant track witch snapped her gaze from Boscha to the Blight "Extremely rare! The school provided it to me for a project. Other than that, they grow every 618 years in the deepest cave on the Isles."
As Amity looks at the flower closer, Gus perks up and grabs all the girl's attention "Oh my, Titan! Guys, did you know that human's pay human money to change their facial features! But they do it without magic. How fascinating!"
"Hmmm, yeah I really don't care about the human realm. They're all a bunch of weirdos." Amity shoots Boscha a glare who instantly throws her hands up in defence "Except for Luz. She's the only exception."
Willow laughs and turns to Amity "Speaking of Luz, where is she? Haven't heard from her in a while."
Boscha sighs and Amity's gaze fall back down to her feet "I'm not sure. I haven't heard from her either since our date."
Willow and Boscha both look at each other. Boscha shrugs while concern fills the witch with glasses face. "That's strange. Is everything alright at the castle? I know your mom has been working with her since Lilith has been on leave."
"Lilith and Eda have also been missing." Gus steps up to the conversation, putting down his human trash "I've gone by the Owl Lady's stand every day. She hasn't been there in a while."
Now, the Blight is panicking "Wait, the Owl Lady and Lilith haven't been at the market either! B maybe something is wrong." Amity grabs the pink-haired witch's shoulders with wide eyes "Maybe something happened with Luz. Do you think I should go and see her? Yeah I'm just going to-"
Boscha then grabs the panicking witch's shoulder, stopping her from rambling "AMITY!" Amity stops taking, and gives her friend her full attention "Relax! I think we would all know if something happened to the empress."
Willow fixes her glasses and places her free hand on the three-eyed witch's back, facing the Blight "Yeah. How about we visit the Owl House and check-in with Lilith? I think that would make us all feel better."
"Yes! I've been waiting to see the Owl Lady for a while now. Wonder what she's got in stock." Gus begins to walk off into the woods, on his way to the infamous Owl House.
Amity quickly throws Boscha's hands off of her and follows behind Gus, leaving behind a concerned couple. Willow keeps her hand on the witch's back and rubs small circles "I've got a bad feeling about this."
Boscha sighs as she watches her best friend rush into the woods "Yeah... Me too. Let's go, I don't want her to burn down the forest if a tree gets in her way." Willow kisses her girlfriend's cheek and grabs her hand as they begin to follow Gus and Amity.
The whole walk there, all of the witch's hearts were racing with fear. Knowing Luz's absence, nothing good was happening. Gus walked with his human trash, wanting more for his collection. Boscha and Willow walked hand in hand, not letting a certain green-haired witch out of their sight. Willow worried about Luz and why she's been gone, hoping it's all the empress duties keeping her busy. But Boscha worried about Amity, worried how she might react if something did happen to her human.
Amity, however, was being driven by fear. With everything that's happened with Luz, she knew nothing was too farfetched. Her mind wandered ten times faster than her legs, going in a million different directions. What started off as a nice, breezy day, quickly became a scorching one. Her palms were sweaty, her legs shaking, her face flushed. If there's one thing to know about Amity Blight, is that she will not let her happy ending be taken away from her. It was hard to explain, but deep down Amity knows Luz is going to be in her life for the rest of it. She knows that that human will make her happy forever, until her last breath.
The four finally reach the Owl house, only to be completely surprised. It was surrounded by a protection spell, which seemed to be very powerful. Gus, Willow, and Boscha all stood in shock, knowing something defiantly had to happen for Eda to place a spell on her house.
The Blight stomped up to the barrier and turned to her abomination, which was still carrying her books, and started to command it "Abomination, disrupt." The witch pointed to the house tinted in yellow. The abomination dropped all of the star student's books and starts to bang its fists on the force field, over, and over again until the Owl Lady or her sister would show her face.
After about fifteen minutes of the abomination banging on the force field, Willow places her pot down gently and walks towards the disheveled witch "Am. I don't think they're going to answer. Maybe the Owl Lady is out and wanted to protect her house."
"NO!" Amity turns from her creation and toward the glasses reflecting herself "The Owl Lady is one of the most powerful witches on the Boiling Isles. She also has that stupid bird tube to protect her house for her. There's no way she would just put a protection spell on her house if nothing serious was wrong!" Out of panic, Amity was now lashing out "I will stay here all night if I have to!"
Willow steps back, while Boscha steps up next to her "Am, think for a second. We're obviously not getting anywhere by doing this. Maybe there's another way to get in?"
Before Amity says anything, the door slams open, making the Abomination walk back to its caster. Amity turns to the figure in the door. "Go Away! Can't, you see the protection spell I put on my house?"
Amity runs to the barrier before Eda closes the door "Wait!" The Owl Lady stops, and stares at the young witch with tired eyes "Somethings wrong, isn't it?"
Eda sighs, not moving "Kid, go home and stay there. There are some battles that can't be won."
Amity's eyes begin to fill with tears, but she manages to hold them off. Her hands ball into fists and she begins to yell at the wild witch "What happened?" Her voice is shaky, making it obvious that she's hurt and trying to hold herself together.
Lilith appears next to Eda in the doorway, with an empathetic look in her eyes. The witch glances at her sister, then back at her apprentice "Amity..." Lilith knows how the human's friends will react so she lifts the barrier for all of them to enter. Amity rushes into the house, pushing through the two witches. The three other young students all walk in, with slumped shoulders, ready to receive upsetting news. Lilith then fixes the barrier so it covers the house once more and closes the door behind her and her sister.
The four sit on the couch. Lilith stands in front of all of them while Eda drags her feet upstairs, avoiding everyone. "Children, before I begin, I need to know the exact reason you are all here."
The three share hesitant looks, while the Blight just crosses her arms and speaks out "Luz. Now, what happened?"
Lilith sighs, and bows her head "That's what I was afraid of." The tension in the room was high. Lilith started to rub the bridge of her nose, searching for the easiest way to put this. "Well first let's start from the very beginning." The older sister summons a chair and she sits down with slumped shoulders. The witch began with the human realm and Luz's mother, and how Eda thought Luz needed her. Then she explained how the Titan has been communicating with the human they all love and that he has been manipulating her the entire time.
Willow and Gus both sank into the couch, defeated by what happened to their friend. Willow grabs her friend's hand and gives him a light squeeze. The witch then musters up a question "So after the Titan took Luz, you don't think he-" She didn't want to finish her question, scared to get an answer. But Lilith didn't have an answer, she only hoped.
Boscha just sat, torn for the human. She happened to like Luz but didn't want other witches to know. What really worried the pink-haired witch, was how her friend was going to react. She kept her top eye on her girlfriend but kept two on Amity.
Amity just sat there. Not moving a single muscle. Only her eyes were darting back and forth like she was conducting a plan in her head, but that suddenly came to a stop "Wait." All eyes went to the witch "Just you and Eda did all of that?" Lilith stiffened, knowing she has to tell the Blight her mother was involved but couldn't find a way to tell her. Amity furrowed her eyebrows and fixed her position on the couch "Lilith. I'm only going to ask you once. Does my mother know about any of this? Is she helping the Titan get rid of Luz?" Her voice started to shake in rage, knowing the answer because of her parent's strange behavior these past two weeks.
Boscha now has her full attention on Amity, darting her eyes back and forth between her and Lilith, ready to hold back the green-haired witch. Lilith doesn't know what to say, so she only sits in her chair, in silence, ashamed of the past events that have occurred. Amity's rage grows by the second. Her heart is pounding, her blood boiling. Her hands begin to ball into fists. But before either witch could speak, Eda speaks from the stairs "Your mother tried to help Luz with me and Lilly. You can't blame her for not telling you. The Titan probably threatened your whole family if she told any living soul."
The Blight was now red with anger, holding her hands as tight as possible, creating crescent marks on both palms "She should have told me! I could have done something!"
"What could you have done?" Eda spat out in a vicious tone as she made her way down the stairs and next to her sister. She then crossed her arms "We were facing the Titan. We were dumb enough to think we could beat him in the first place. If you ask me, as soon as Luz trapped him in her head, we should have put her under a sleep spell so they both would be contained!"
Lilith and Amity shoot up. Amity grits her teeth and draws two circles, engulfing both fists in a pink burning fire. Lilith makes sure to put both hands up, trying to tame the Blight, and keeping her shocked gaze towards her sister "Edalyn! Watch your tongue!"
"How dare you say that about her!" Boscha gets up, ready to grab the raging witch. Amity just darts her eyes at the Owl Lady "Luz has done so much for everyone in this room! If it weren't for her, you would be petrified right now!" The Blight is now pointing at Eda, inches away from the wild witch's face, with growing flames engulfed around her hands.
Before Lilith could step in between them, Eda swipes the young witch's hand away from her face "I was doing just fine before that kid walked into my life! I didn't care about anyone or anything! The emperor was crazy, but he never caught me or even came close to me!" Eda and Amity were now inches away from each other, both covering their pain with anger "Now, the Titan has the one thing I care about, and I can't do anything about it!" Eda pants, her angry expression softens to a broken witch. She steps back and looks at her feet, ashamed she couldn't do more. She mumbles "He has the one kid I ever loved more than myself." A tear forms in the witch's eye, but not falling.
Amity releases her hands, and the fire goes out. She did her best but unlike the Owl Lady, tears started to roll down the witch's cheeks, making small marks on the wooden floor beneath her. Boscha hesitantly puts her hand on the witch's shoulder, while she continues her painful sobs.
Lilith puts both her hands down and looks towards her sister with sorrow laced in her voice "We can all agree Luz means a lot to us." She sighs, upset about what she has to admit "But we lost. The TItan is too powerful. He even took our staffs away, and probably even destroyed them. Now we have to live with that shame."
"No..." All the witches look at the quiet voice at the entrance to the living room. There, King stood with the crown Luz stole back for him in his paws "When Luz didn't have any magic, she risked a lot by stealing my crown back for me. She didn't even know me, but she did it anyway. I don't care if the Titan petrifies me, I need to at least try and save her." King walks up to Eda's leg and turns to the four young witches staring at him "She would risk everything for any one of us!"
Silence fills the room. Eda picks up her demon roommate and smiles at him. She picks up her head and what once was pain, and sorrow was replaced with determination "Listen, the demon has a point. The chances of us all making it out alive are very slim, but I'm going to take that chance. The Titan is smart and crazy, but maybe if we plan this out, maybe we might have a chance to get rid of him once and for all."
Lilith grabs her sister's arm and whispers so that only Eda can hear her "Edalyn, we can't risk these children's lives!"
Eda rips her arm out of her sister's grasp "I'm not risking anybody's life. They have the choice to opt-out. I'm not forcing anything on anybody." The wild witch turns back to the four students across from her "Now, who's saving the human with me?"
