"Tell Amity I'm sorry. She deserves someone better than me. I don't know why I thought I could ever make her happy."
Luz can't help but think Amity deserves the stars to bow down to her. That Amity Blight deserves all the love on the Isles. Amity deserves someone better, anyone, but her.
"I Luz, Empress of the Boiling Isles, disenchant my mind to no longer be a prison for the Titan who inhabits it."
She has to do this. The Titan has always had the upper hand. Luz never stood a chance. The human hopes Eda and Lilith will finally put her out of her misery once the Titan is in full control. She hopes she can just go away so that everyone else can finally live their lives without her causing pain.
"I'm sorry Eda. I just can't anymore."
This is for the best. Luz can finally get out of the way, and hopefully, just be done. Maybe the Titan will finally just get rid of her for imprisoning her. Maybe the Titan will take back his power and let Luz just rest.
But no. Eda and Lilith just had to save her, they just had to put the Titan in the one person she had to part with. The one who could read her like a book. They had to use Steve's body. Luz felt her mind go blank as soon as the Titan's voice disappeared. It was relieving yet scary. Because with the Titan, Luz was never alone. But now, she was all alone, defeated.
~~
Amity flutters her eyes open, blinded by the sun. The witch takes a moment to adjust to the sudden brightness shining on her. She raises her hand in an attempt to block out the sun, trying to figure out where she is, and how can she find her human. "Luz?" She calls out, hoping to receive an immediate answer. But things were never that easy, were they. Amity had a million questions like 'What kind of prison is she dealing with?' 'Is Luz locked up, or is she just randomly waltzing about?' 'Does Luz know that she's in a prison?'
The Blight took in her surroundings, recognizing where she is currently situated. "The market?" Amity mumbles under her breath, extremely confused. She quickly scans the crowd for round ears, hoping to catch sight of Luz. But no, she instead lies her sights on something stranger. The witch cocks an eyebrow stands in her place dumbfounded "Ed, Em?"
The twins shot their heads up and smile at their younger sister and dart towards her. "Mittens!" They say in unison while bombarding her with hugs. Amity grasps for air as the two older Blight's squeeze her tightly. They collectively put her down and Edric ruffles Amity's neatly tied hair "Good to see you Mittens! Long time no see." Emira nods with her brother and pinches her little sister's cheeks "Yeah! We were starting to forget what you looked like!"
Amity throws her brother's hand off of her head and slaps her sister's hand to stop the pinching. After regaining her composer she looks at her older siblings like they have been cursed "What are you two bone heads talking about? We were literally just together at the castle! The real question is, how did you two get here?"
Edric and Emira share a glance and turn back to their little sister. They look at her with concern for a moment and then break out into laughter "Ha! Good one Mitten's." Edric says while holding his stomach. Emira bursts in tears, laughing so hard "Yeah Mittens! Look's like while you were gone, you and your girlfriend really developed a sense of humor!"
The mention of Luz made the witch's ears perk up and her eyes widen "Wait! Luz?"
Edric and Emira laugh even harder as if Amity was pulling a prank on them or something "Wait, Luz?" Emira mocks Amity. Edric manages to stand up a little but still stumbles through his constant laughing "Who else would we be talking about! Of course, it's Luz!"
At this point, Amity is completely lost. First off, her siblings are acting like nothing has happened these past two weeks. And second, what do they mean by 'long time no see'? Amity realizes that she has to approach this differently if she wants to get answers. She forces an obviously fake laugh and tries to play along "Aha! Dang, it. I could never really prank the two masters!" The Blight struggles but pushes past the lack of knowledge she currently has "Now before we all laugh ourselves to death, why don't you two tell me about everything I've missed since I've been gone?"
Emira was the first one to calm down, wiping a tear from her eye "Oh Mitten's, you know we just like to tease you! You haven't missed much since you've only been gone like..." The twin scratches her chin, thinking "Like three hours."
"Three... Hours..?" Amity does her best to smile through the confusion. Her eye twitches, cursing the Titan for giving her the most difficult siblings on the Isles.
Edric finally stops laughing, but still holding his stomach from laughing too hard "Wow, can you get abs from laughing too hard? Because just... oof"
The youngest Blight racks her brain, trying to figure out this prison. Or did it not work and she's just magically back, living her everyday life. Amity decides to ask some questions "Em, when did I meet Luz? And what do you personally know about her?"
Emira smirks and crosses her arms as if her sister is challenging her "Are you quizzing me on your girlfriend Mitten's?" Amity fakes a smile and nods vigorously, trying to get as much information as possible "Well, you meet Luz at school a couple of weeks ago, and you've done everything in your power to keep her far away from Ed and me, so that's all I know."
"That's it?" Amity stands in front of her siblings, not getting anywhere at this rate "You mean to tell me, that you haven't looked into the girl I'm dating, because I told you not to?"
Emira nods, and Edric jumps like he is a first grader with a mission to use the bathroom "Oh, Mittens! I however have been a great brother and have done some excellent spying to make sure Luz is acceptable for you!" Amity just stares at her brother, waiting for him to spill on what he has learned. But instead, he bows his head, and looks defeated "I've learned nothing" He quickly perks his head up and smiles though "But I do know her brother picks her up after your tutoring sessions every day!"
"Brother?" Amity thinks for a moment "Ok so apparently this prison is like Luz's everyday life? But before Steve's death and who knows what else." Amity scratches her now messy hair, thanks to Edric, and starts to pace in front of her two older siblings. "Ed, Em, what specific details do you know about Luz? Anything major?"
The twins meet each other's eyes and then back at the pacing witch. Emira just shrugs while Edric tries to think "Nope. Actually, we know nothing about the human sis. Why are you so curious about what we know though?"
Amity stops her pacing and now has a better idea of what she's dealing with. "So no one knows she's the empress apparently, and we're currently dating." A small blush appears on the witch's cheeks but comes to the conclusion that that's enough information for now. "Thank's guys! See you later!" Amity runs off with a destination in mind, leaving the twins waving her goodbye and turning away to just disappear back into the market.
After a while of walking, Amity comes across a road. "This is where the Owl Lady's stand is!" She darts for the crowded area and keeps her eye out for a grey mane. Her golden eyes scan every stand, but none of them being human trash. "Where could she b- Of course! The Owl House!" Now the Blight is determined, making the plan as she goes. First, find Eda and Lilith, then find and rescue Luz.
The Blight runs with a purpose through the busy streets of Bonesburrow. Not focusing on anything other than her beating heart, pumping all the adrenaline throughout her entire body. She constantly reminds herself that she only has a limited amount of time before they reach the Conformatorium, so she better hurry.
~~
Edric and Emira carry the cursed human through the hallways of the castle, followed by the three students who happen to be surprisingly keeping their cool through all of this. Aldor leads all the young undercover witches, slowly and cautiously, making sure to take the long way in order to avoid all and any contact with the Titan and Kikimora.
"Aldor!"
The Blight father comes to a halt, instantly losing all and any color from his face. His heart rate quickens as his name is called. All the students behind him stop and begin to worry as to who called and why. Aldor clenches his fists and takes a deep breath, trying to calm himself so that he doesn't seem suspicious at all. He turns around, and bows. "Titan Belos. I was just taking the Empress to the Conformatorium as directed."
The Titan emerges from the shadows of the hallway, only making his eyes stand out more than they already do. He smiles at the Blight and ignores the young witches in the guard's uniforms. "Since I'm not in Luz's body, I'm not totally connected with the Isles right now." The Titan walks towards Luz's sleeping body and grabs her hand. He closes his eyes to feel the power coursing through her veins.
Everyone is silent out of fear the Titan might figure out that they are currently working against him. Aldor waits for a moment, wondering why the Titan is in this wing of the castle at this time. "Is that so? Must be an empty feeling without your power."
The Titan opens his eyes, illuminating part of the human's face with a magenta glow. He manages to still hold on to her hand while only moving his eyes towards the Blight "You have no idea. Having all the power, and watching it all go to waste. First with Roman, now with Luz." His eyes go back to focusing on Luz. He tilts his head and smiles menacingly, making Edric and Emira develop chills down both their spines, catching the Titan's attention. He stares both the guards down and departs his hand from the human's. "Aldor. Are you transporting precious cargo with new guards?"
Aldor stiffens, feeling his heart rate skyrocket. He begins to shake under his cloak as his plan begins to crumble beneath him. "N- not that I am aware of sir. I just took the guards assigned to watch the Empress." Aldor scolds himself for stuttering, knowing the Titan defiantly caught it.
And caught it he did. He takes his eyes from the covered twins and directs his posture to the Blight father "You suddenly seem nervous." The Titan looks him up and down "How are your children doing? Amity I assume has been asking questions, yes?"
The room felt like it was on fire, burning the witch, making water droplets fall from his hairline down his forehead "Amity? She's been upset that the human hasn't contacted her, yes. But she is a Blight, and she will not let her emotions get the better of her." The twins were now on edge, readying themselves for the Titan to attack at any given moment. On the other hand, Willow discreetly reaches into her pocket to grab a particular flower, just in case the situation escalates.
"Is that so?" The Titan now looks at the three guards for a moment, turning his back to the three Blights. He walks up to the shortest guard, examining him thoroughly. "You seem a bit young to be a guard. Tell me, what is your name and identification number." Gus looks at Willow who is situated next to him and then back at the Titan, who is towering over him. He suddenly finds a lump in his throat unable to speak, terrified. Aldor tries to mouth something to Gus, but the twelve-year-old is frozen out of fear. That's when the Titan furrows his eyebrows and turns back to Aldor Blight, where his fangs are now visible for all to see "Traitors!" The Titan goes to cast a spell circle when he suddenly hits the floor, only to reveal Willow standing over him with a rare blue flower in hand.
Aldor looks at the plant witch with admiration and horror. Willow takes off her mask so that she could breathe, still feeling the adrenaline pump through her blood. Boscha also takes her mask off and walks up to her significant other to place a hand on her back to bring her back to reality. Willow jumps at the contact but quickly leans into the touch, laughing out of nervousness. "I just knocked out the Titan with my Sleeping Demon project."
Edric and Emira just stare at the witch, and turn to their father who is still in complete shock "Now what do we do?" Emira looks at her father, hoping he will think of a new plan.
"We can create an illusion spell and take him with us?" Edric says while rubbing his neck, scared of what's to come.
Willow grabs the attention of all the witches "We only have an hour before he wakes up. He doesn't have his full power yet, so all our magic should be able to hold him."
"No." Aldor spats out, stressed beyond belief "We'll tie him up and leave him here. That will buy us enough time to reach the Conformatorium and enough time for Amity to wake Luz. Now hurry, let's not waste another moment!"
The twins hurry and cast one big spell, containing the sleeping Titan so he will struggle as soon as he wakes up. Willow, Gus, and Boscha take over the levitation spell, so Luz stays stable. Aldor observes all the witches as they stumble to tie the Titan up and help keep Luz afloat. He continues to sweat as he sees his two eldest children drag the most dangerous witch on the Isles into a vacant room. "Amity, I hope you are having better luck than us right now."
~~
Amity is running through the empty woods to get to the Owl House. Her previous role as grudgeby captain is coming in handy with all of her endurance. Her heart pumps at a rapid rate, filling her ears with its beat. The witch's legs feel numb from pushing herself past her limits. She has to run, for Luz, and for everyone.
As the Owl Lady's house comes into view, a smile creeps up on the girl's face, filling with hope. She's almost excited to see the bird tube attached to the door... Almost. She picks up her pace, not wasting another second when she notices the state of the house.
The door seems to have a hole where Hooty should be, the windows are either dirty or shattered, and it seems like it's been abandoned. Amity stops running, panting at the once lively home. "Oh come on!" The girl screams out as best she could, while she still gasps for air. Her chest is moving fast, back and forth, and back and forth. Amity is now starting to lose a bit of hope. Because if she cant get help from the Clawthorne's, then how would she ever get Luz back?
Amity then thinks of a totally stupid plan that could never work in a million years. She summons her scroll and goes to her contacts. Her breath has finally normalized, and she takes a deep breath. The witch presses the screen and dials a number. With every ring, her heart stopped, waiting to hear the sweet voice of her human.
"Hello?"
Of course, the dumbest plan worked.
A tear formed in the green-haired witch's eye as she heard Luz's voice. She seemed happy with the tone she answered in, which made Amity smile. Her heart fluttered when that sweet sound filled her ears, making them flap up and down in excitement.
"Amity? Hello?"
She's at a loss for words. How do you tell someone that they are currently in a prison, stuck in a perfect reality? How do you tell someone that the Titan is sending her cursed, unconscious body to the Conformatorium, to probably be petrified? The witch opens her mouth, but no words come out.
"Amity is something wrong? Are you ok?"
"Luz!" The Blight screams at the floating scroll, managing to only say the human's name.
"Yes, that is my name. Is everything ok?" Luz laughs over on the other line.
Amity smiles again, letting out a breath of relief hearing her girlfriend's laugh. It was honestly music to her ears. "Luz." She drags out her name because hearing it just makes her feel better.
"Amity." Luz drags out her name, mocking the witch for her strange behavior.
Amity mentally slaps herself, trying to get back on topic "Where are you? I want to see your cute smile." The witch was genuine, wanting to see her human after her disappearing for two weeks and wanting an opportunity to wake her up.
"I'm currently at the castle. Want me to pick you up? You can have dinner with me!"
"Dinner sounds nice." It's not real. None of it is real. It's all an illusion to make the prisoner want to stay. Amity has to stay strong no matter what. None of it is real. Except for Luz.
"Great! I'll pick you up at the library in twenty minutes. Good?" Luz's voice seems so careless like she doesn't have the weight of ruling constantly pulling her down.
Amity silently screamed, knowing she'll have to walk at a fast pace to get to the library in that time. "Perfect! I'll see you in twenty!" The witch hangs up and starts her walk back to Bonesburrow, curious as to why Luz's perfect world doesn't have Eda in it. I guess it makes sense, ever since Eda and Luz met, only bad things have happened.
After about eighteen minutes, Amity finally made it to the front steps of the library. Luz was nowhere to be found so Amity decided to stop in her hideout for a second, to see how detailed this prison truly was. To her surprise, the hideout was there and had every little detail. It had all Amity's journal entries, word for word. The witch under different circumstances would be impressed with the Titan's thoroughness.
As the green-haired witch flips through the pages of her journal, two hands wrap around the girl's waist and pick her up. Amity manages to jump out of the grip and turns around with a spell ready to cast. Luz quickly puts her hands up in surrender and laughs. "Whoah! Easy! It's just me! No need to finish that spell." Luz's eyes sparkled in the dim setting, and her smile made the room brighter. She was in her school uniform, probably to be unnoticed by the witches in Bonesburrow. The human just seemed, happy.
Amity immediately dropped her hand and waved the half-drawn spell circle away. She ran towards Luz and tackled her into a hug. A loud thump was produced in the hideout, as the two girls fall to the ground in a passionate hug. The witch nuzzles her head into the crook of Luz's neck, taking in her scent which surprisingly smelt so real. The human was laughing and holding her Blight close, not letting her go.
"I missed you." It was muffled but Amity managed to say it loud enough for Luz to hear.
Luz laughs again, giving the witch a kiss on the top of her head "Mittens, it's been like four hours."
Amity doesn't care for the nickname, she's just happy to hear the song of her human's infectious laugh. The witch pulls her head away from Luz's neck so that she faces her, while still keeping her hands wrapped around her. The Blight looks into her eyes and just smiles, happy to see a familiar brown "It's felt like weeks!" Luz just smiles, and Amity closes the distance between them, connecting their lips once again.
The kiss was comforting for both girls, lasting for only a moment before Luz pulls away and tucks a loose strand of hair behind the witch's ear. "Is everything ok? You're acting very strange. Did something happen?"
Nows her chance to tell her. Nows her chance to tell Luz that this reality is all a mirage to keep her trapped and powerless. The words make their way to the tip of her tongue but can't seem to speak them. Amity is so happy to see Luz like this, how could she just rip all of that away. But then again, all of it is fake. "Nothing." The witch mentally scolds herself for being selfish.
Luz smiles and stands up, scooping Amity up while holding her bridal style. "And scoop!" A blush makes its way to the witch's face, making Luz proud of herself that she will probably forever have this effect on the Blight. "Now let's go before Steve gets cranky!"
Luz walks out of the library with her witch in her hold. They are greeted with a friendly familiar smile that Amity did miss "Luz I told you in and out. Now we're going to have to rush home!"
"Sorry, Steve!" Luz puts Amity down and grabs her hand, interlocking their fingers together. "I couldn't find her for a while there." Luz rubs the back of her neck and winks at the girl.
The green-haired witch blushes and Steve just stares at Amity and back to Luz "Yeah I don't believe that for one second. But doesn't matter, we have to get going." Steve hops on his staff, followed by Luz and Amity. "Enjoy the flight you two. Only clear skies from here on out!" Steve smiles widely and takes off.
Amity wanted to sit back and enjoy the flight, staring at those chestnut brown eyes, getting lost in them forever. She wanted to admire her human's hair flowing with the wind as they soar through the sky. She wanted this to be real, and not just a false reality. But with her luck, she's going to have to convince Luz that this perfect world, isn't real and that her real life is full of pain and despair. How was she supposed to convince someone to willingly leave a paradise?
"Luz?" Amity pushes through all her desires and manages to say the girl of her dreams name, but has no plan on what to say next. "Are you happy?"
Luz turns around and faces the witch who seems to be upset. Her smile drops and she cups Amity's cheek with her warm hand and looks her in the eyes "Of course I am." Luz hesitates and starts to rub circles with her thumb, trying to comfort her Blight. "Are... are you?"
Amity just stares into her eyes and shrugs "I think so. Honestly, I'm not really sure to tell you the truth. Being here right now makes me happy, but it just doesn't feel real. It's stupid. Forget I said anything."
Luz quickly pecks her on the lips and continues to rub circles with her thumb "Amity, is this why you sounded so distraught on the phone earlier? Did I do something earlier? Please tell me, I won't get upset."
"No! It's not you!" Amity sighs and struggles internally. How in Titan's name was she supposed to tell her that Steve is really dead and that she is under some kind of curse right now. "I'm going to ask you a theoretical question and you have to answer as honestly as possible. Ok?" Luz nods and goofily salutes to the girl, producing a small laugh. "Ok, what if, theoretically, this was all fake? What if it was a false reality that was holding us all prisoner but the catch was it was a perfect utopia, so even if you knew you were a prisoner, you would never want to leave. Would you ever want to wake up from it?"
Luz's hand falls from cupping Amity's cheek. Her face suddenly was serious and Amity could tell that this hit a chord with the human. Luz looks at Steve and then to her dangling feet, hanging from the staff. The witch watched as the human instantly changed her whole attitude. "Theoretically." Luz emphasized the word still avoiding eye contact "In this false reality, how many prisoners are there?"
"Just one." Amity now studies Luz, feeling like she knows something, but is just avoiding it.
Luz sighs and shrugs "I guess the right thing to do is wake them up. No matter how perfect the world is, none of it is real." Her grip tightens on the staff for a brief moment before shaking her head and putting on what seemed to be a fake smile and turns back to her witch "But that's just theoretical right! No need to think about that while we have dinner!"
As if on cue the staff lands and the three hop off. Amity and Luz walk hand in hand while walking into the castle being led by Steve. Steve turns around and smiles at the two while walking backwards, keeping the pace "So Kiddo I want you to remain calm tonight no matter what. That goes for you too Amity! First impressions mean everything but I don't want you two to worry. Just be yourselves and everything will go smoothly." He smiles and turns back around putting his hood and mask back up.
Luz squeezes Amity's hand "Are you ready to meet my parents?" The human's eyes were filled with excitement and worry at the same time.
Amity only nods. The witch is putting on a great act, for on the inside she is totally breaking down "Her PARENTS!?!?!?!" This is going to be a lot harder than she thought. First Steve, now her parents. They all neared the grand doors of the dining room, and Amity's heart began to pump rapidly as Emperor Belos' figure appeared.
"Ah, darling you've finally arrived! And you brought your significant other." Emperor Belos stands from his chair and greets Luz and Amity. Luz smiles at her father while Amity nearly freaks out. The emperor reaches his hand out, but the witch flinches. He laughs "Miss. Blight, I wish you no harm. I only wish to properly greet you." He gestures to his hand, which still remains open waiting for the frightened girl to shake.
Amity goes against her better judgment and lets go of Luz's hand and reaches out her now free hand to greet Emperor Belos. "It's an honor to meet you my liege."
"Stop scaring the girl honey!"
A figure places its hand on the emperor's shoulder, sounding friendly and welcoming with its laugh. Belos laughs and looks at the figure next to him "I have no such intention! Not my fault I'm intimidating."
"Actually it is. You wear that ridiculous everywhere you go. Why don't you stop hiding behind that mask and let's have a nice family dinner?" The figure steps into the light, revealing to be Camila, wearing a purple and white dress, almost identical to the one Azura wears. "Fine. But only because we have a special guest." Emperor Belos takes off his mask and strangely enough, Amity recognizes the man. It's James from Luz's memory.
Luz hugs her mother and father tightly. After a moment of silence, Luz breaks the hug "Let's eat. I'm sure you guys would love to get to know Amity more." The three all look at the witch who seemed very ill at the moment. Luz notices that her witch looks paler than normal and places her hand on the girl's shoulder. "Am are you feeling ok?"
"I'm fine." Amity had to wrap her head around the whole situation. Not only did Luz get Steve back, but she also got her parents back. The longer Amity stayed, the more she thought about leaving Luz cursed. It wasn't real, but it made her happy. "Pardon me, but I need to use the restroom. Luz, can you show me where it is?"
Luz nods and leads the way for the two out of the room. They walk in silence while the green-haired witch sweats profusely. Luz's eyebrows slant downwards, becoming very concerned for her witch "Ams, what's wrong. Is this about before? Are you worried about having dinner with my parents?"
"No." Amity holds herself while she is at war with herself.
"Then what is it! Is it me? Did I do something wrong?"
"No."
"Please tell me then!" Luz pleads.
They reach the restroom and Amity pulls the human into the room and locks the door. "Why did it have to be like this! Everything is perfect here and it's not fair!" The witch paces the floor, rubbing her neck while directing her yelling at her feet.
Luz just watches, extremely concerned and confused "What do you mean. You're not making any sense!"
"Why can't you see it!" Amity now grabs Luz's shoulders and shakes her, like she was trying to wake her up right there. "None of this is real! It's all fake Luz! It wasn't a theoretical question before!" The witch is yelling, probably catching the attention of a few guards in the process.
Luz steps back and now stands against the wall. The two just stare intensely at each other, one panting and the other in a dead stare. Luz closes her eyes shut, and sighs "I know." Amity tilts her head, and just looks at the broken human, not knowing what to say "I know Steve and James are dead. I know my adoptive father emperor Belos is dead. I know that none of this is real."
"Then why are you still here? You said it yourself, it isn't real!" The witch yells some more, hoping her human will come to her senses.
Tear fall onto the floor below Luz. "I just wanted to see what it was like. To have an actual family that cared." Luz looks at Amity with immense sorrow in her soul "At first I was curious and just wanted to see what it was like. I kept telling myself that it was all fake, but as time went by, I didn't care. It felt real." Luz looks are her hands, ashamed of herself "I was so tired of the Titan and everything. I was ready to die Ams. I didn't care anymore. And when I was sent here, I thought that this could be a new start for me. I'm sorry." Luz slides down the wall and curls up into a ball on the bathroom floor.
Amity remains standing, completely shocked. But she didn't break down. No. This only made her angry "You were just going to give up just like that!" Luz looks up at the witch with tears blurring her vision. "Luz life is hard but you don't just give up like that! You go to the people that love you and ask for help!" The witch is enraged at herself for not noticing, not realizing that of course, Luz was in pain. She kneels down to Luz's level and starts to rub circles on the girl's knees "Life is hard but that doesn't give you the right to just leave for a fake reality. Yes, you have had many painful memories, but that doesn't mean you didn't have any good ones. And you're still fourteen. You have a whole lifetime to make happy and exciting memories with everyone."
"I just couldn't do it. I was weak and the Titan got the best of me." Luz buries her head into her arms.
Amity scoffs playfully "Yeah, maybe. But that means that you and me, we're gonna one-up him this time. Together." Amity gently grabs Luz's chin so that their eyes meet "And if we fail, we fail together. If we're too weak, we're too weak together. But you have to wake up and face reality. Everyone, including me, is counting on you to wake up and kick the Titan's stupid grin off his face."
Luz lets a couple more tears race down her face "Amity, he's possessing Steve. I can't."
"Luz." Now Amity is cupping the girl's cheek, wiping her tears away with her thumb "You're not alone. I hate to say it, but Steve is gone. If it will make you feel better you can talk to this Steve one last time for closure."
The human squeezes her eyes shut, deep down not wanting to ever wake up from this dream, but Amity was right, she had to wake up. For this was only a dream. Luz quietly stands up, making the Blight do the same. She wipes all of her tears away and goes for the door. Luz unlocks the door hoping all this was an elaborate prank, and when she opens the door, Amity will break out of character and tackle her in a playfully hug. But as Luz opens the door, the reality of the situation kicked in. Each step became heavier, bearing more and more pain.
She walks through the hallway and stops at the grand doors of the dining room where her parents sit. Luz however doesn't say goodbye to them, instead, she just places her hand on the door and whispers under her breath "In another lifetime shall we meet." She takes a moment to herself before continuing to Steve's room, dreading her final encounter with her best friend. Luz finally made it to the door, holding her hand up, but not knocking. Because knocking would just mean that this was it. Amity stands behind Luz and just watches her, not interfering. Luz stares at the door, in hopes that it would just disappear, but it was never that easy.
*KNOCK*
*KNOCK*
The door swings open. "Luz? Amity?" Steve takes a good look and realizes his human had tear-stained cheeks. Without wasting a breath he grabs Luz and traps her in a big hug "What's wrong kiddo? I'm here. I'm here."
Luz stays strong, holding back the sob trying to flood her face. She sniffs and wipes her nose, breaking the hug. "S- Steve. I- I don't know what to say."
Steve instantly takes off his mask and hood. He looks his human in the eyes and gives a reassuring smile "Hey, hey. Take your time. I'm always going to be here for you. No matter what!"
"I know you are."Luz laughs but feels the pain in her chest worsen. "You're always there for me. I never deserved you, Steve."
"Hey don't talk bad about yourself. You are the most amazing human I've ever met! And that includes both of your parents." Steve looks down the hall as if they were standing right there. Then he gets an idea and starts to yell at the top of his lungs "LUZ IS THE BEST MOST TALENTED HUMAN ON THE BOILING ISLES!!! NO ONE CAN CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE!!!"
Luz laughs harder and now tears roll down her cheeks despite her best efforts. Steve laughs along and ruffles her hair up. Luz grabs one of his hands with both of hers, just like she did during storms when she was just a kid. She starts to fidget with his glove "I will always love you Steve. And I'm sorry if I ever hurt you in any way shape or form."
Steve then kneels down and grabs both of his human's hands "Kiddo, there's literally nothing you can do that would ever make me not love you. I need you to know that. And for future reference, just in case, I forgive you with all of my heart."
Luz now breaks down and wraps her arms around her protector's neck. He reciprocates the hug and tightens his grip, never wanting to let go of this moment. But Luz finally had to let go. As much as she wanted to stay, she had to wake up.
As the human finally got closure, a portal door appeared behind Amity. Amity turns to the two "I'll give you two a moment to say your goodbyes." The green-haired witch opens the portal door and disappears.
Steve let go of Luz, not noticing the portal staring at the spot Amity just disappeared from "Whoah! She has got to teach me that spell!"
Luz stares at the door. Not wanting to give up her fantasy, but not wanting to give up her real life. She turns back to her protector and gives him one last final goodbye "Steve. Do you promise to be with me forever? No matter what?"
Steve looks back at Luz and smiles "Of course kid! But only if you shower. I will totally ditch you if you quit showering again. That was the worst two months of my life!"
They both burst into laughter. Luz admires the sound of his laugh once more. Really taking in the moment with her big brother. "You're family to me. And you'll always be with me no matter what."
"Always."
"Always..." Luz hugs him one last time then turns to the door. She turns the knob and stares into the light that shines through. The human takes one last deep breath of her false reality and lunges through the portal.

Willow, Boscha, and Gus all sit beside Luz's body, watching her every breath. It was a dark and anxious carriage ride. Time was running out for the two girls. Boscha never even once took out her scroll phone, which was a new record. The three Blight's sat at the front of the carriage, steering. Everything was tense, from the point to where they knocked out the all-powerful Titan, to now. Nobody dared to say a single word, waiting for either Luz or Amity to magically show up.
With only three minutes till their arrival, a light appeared out of thin air, and Amity fell on top of Luz's still body. The three witches all stood up with what space they had and helped the witch find a seat. They all bombarded her with questions but the green-haired witch shot all of them down, keeping her focus on the sleeping human. Any second she should be waking up.
"Amity what happened? Why isn't she waking up?" Willow tried to get the girl to talk but remained fixated on the human.
Amity grabbed Luz's hand and started to speak in a low voice so that only she and Luz could hear. "Come on Luz. Wake up. Wake up!"
As if her voice were the cure, Luz instantly opened her eyes, revealing a fire behind them, and glowing a bright crimson red.
