Looking at Myles walk away from the car, I felt guilt when he left. Looking at him, the feeling only increased. He had bags under his eyes and looked like he needed a good night's rest. As he got out of the car, I couldn't stop myself from running to him. We met at the door and his hands were around me seeking comfort. It was nice to be someone's comfort. He was wearing an oversized velvet shirt that was the same tone of black as the jeans and shoes he was wearing. It was odd to see him not wearing something that fit his form perfectly.
"What happened?" He still held onto me after a few moments, so I took it as a in to question how he was doing. "A lot," he said. "Like what?"
"I had to fight Morris to keep the promise I made to you," he said. Alejandro stepped out of the car he picked Myles's up in. Mileta was probably somewhere close, looking over us. "You fought your brother?" It was a shock to hear that he was standing, seeing as all of his brothers trained vigorously. Morris was stronger than even them.
"They threatened you, and were making preparations for a war with the South if this didn't work," he said, stopping he turned to see behind him then looked back at me. "We need to go somewhere more secure."
Removing his arms from around me, he walked into our home. I grabbed his hand and pulled him along to my office, which was closed off from the rest of the world. I sat on my couch and brought him down on my lap so that he was straddling me. "Explain what you mean when you say they are making preparations." It was hard to keep the underlying rage from bubbling out.
"They wanted to discuss contingency plans if your family broke the treaty. There was an undertone of getting back at you, less for my benefit. I tried to explain that your family takes bonds seriously and would never break it unless they warranted that action. We then started arguing and Morris came at me," He explained.
"How did it end?" I was still in shock he came back with no major damage. Morris was a feared general on the battlefield. "Celine stopped us before anything could go too far."
"Do you think you win," I asked out of curiosity. "Not really, I held him and my other brothers off though. Celine saw how far we were about to go and issued an executive order for peace. In the North, the word of the next in line is stronger than the rest of us."
"Shit, how did you hold off your brothers all at once?" My mouth dropped open with shock. "I manipulated the water in their body to keep them from moving. I had to use a powerful spell to keep Morris back. My grandmother wrote about it in her journal and I tried it. It is a huge drain on my mana, so I don't see how she would have used it in a land battle."
"That's impressive, I've tried doing that with iron in people's bodies but it was far to meticulous for me to master in a usable way. I'm happy that you made it back to me though. Would hate to have to take out your entire family." I was trying to keep things light, but my mind was racing.
I was going to tell my family about the plans the North was making. They would disappoint, but not surprised. I never knew my mother to be naïve to how the world work, but even she looked towards the best outcome and moved with integrity. The whole time they spent at the palace, they berated me for how I had treated Myles and threatened the treaty.
"Luckily, Celine was on my side and with the cosign of Nova who brought Kendrix, I could set up bonds with my family members to keep them from making plans without proven intelligence of an attack. In return, I agreed to tell them the moment I saw something that would endanger the North," he said. "I hope there are not any plans that would make me have to do that." His eyes were on mine.
"We are in this a hundred percent," I replied. "Good, because I added a death pact to the bonds if I break it. If there is any sort of violence caused by the North, our relationships will end in ever way. They would be enemies of Panama. I did that with all of my family, it took lots of convincing so please don't get me killed."
"Why would you put up your life as a bargaining chip?" I was anxious and enraged that he made a move so drastic without telling me. "It was the only way to get this done," he said, laying his head on my shoulder. I held him tight against me. "There had to be something else you could have used."
It was a scary feeling to know that at the slightest misstep between so many moving parts, my husband could drop dead. I was falling for him hard. The idea of his life no longer being linked to mine for the rest of our time on earth had me running through so my emotions.
"I promised you I tried to get the bods formed with other means, but it was the only one that they would accept. Anyway, enough about the crisis I adverted I wasn't to know that you did with your time." He was allowing me to hold all of his weight, which was keeping me from pacing around the room.
"I took my family to the favelas," I said with a lowered tone. I knew him well enough to know he was falling to sleep. I wanted to discuss the issues with his family more but would table it till after he got some rest. If he used a spell that was stronger than the one he used during the restaurant ambush, I knew he would need a ton of time to recuperate. "Really," he asked enthusiastically.
"Yeah, they looked amazed by how you modernized the area so fast. They were curious how you did it without moving the people out of those areas." I could remember the pride on my family's face as we walked down the freshly paved roads.
"I'm glad they liked it," he said, between a yawn. "My sister Rosa is going to start the same program in the South. You probably have fifty messages waiting for you." I laugh to myself, remembering the determination on her face as she looked at Myles's work. He nodded into my shoulder.
"How about we get you to bed? You've had a stressful week." I lifted him up and carried him to our bed. He hit the covers and pulled me down with him to cuddle. "We have to bring a baby into this world, don't we?" I hugged him tight and nodded against him. None of us had got out of starting a family so early into our relationship.
We pressed our foreheads together as we let that fact settle. "I can't wait until we rule this place on our own. We'll be able to make our own decisions on the time frame we choose," I told him as he breathed against my face.
"You seem to handle this better than I could ever. I think you're going to be a brilliant father," he said. That was the best compliment I had ever received. "I think you are handling this well, but do you really mean that?"
"You are smart, hardworking, protective, and you are kind. Even if you try to keep that a secret," he said, then placed a kiss on my nose. "I think you would be the better dad. You have the nurturing thing down and you are ten times more patient. You will be their favorite."
"How many are we talking about here?" That woke him up a little, and I smiled. "About six or seven," I told him. His eyes grew to the size of golf balls. "Unless you plan on being the incubator, lets keep it to a three maximum." I fell out at how final his tone was.
"Im messing with you. All I want is a little girl, anything more is a blessing," I reassured him. "Alright, I can work with that." He turned around and snuggled his back into me. It didn't take him long for him to fall asleep. When I was sure that movement wouldn't wake him, I got out of bed and left the room. There I allowed my rage to pour out.
"Is there a problem highness," Alejandro asked as we passed each other in the hallway. "Yeah there is, but I have the solution." I tried not to misplace my anger on him, so I stomped past as I talked. He said something, but it didn't register as I made my way to my office and shut the door. I didn't stop moving until I aw at my desk and made an audio call to the person who deserved the rage.
"Hello," Morris answered in a bored tone. "Explain to me why my husband came back worn out, talking about how you fought him and threatened my life," I said, feeling comfortable yelling as the room suppressed sounds.
"Seems like you know everything, so why are you wasting my time?" I wanted to knock his head off his shoulders."If we were face-to-face trust and believe that I would beat the living hell out of you," I threatened him.
"Oh, really? You are nothing compared to me. I really don't understand what that little bitch sees in you," he chuckled. "Don't you dare disrespect Myles," I spat.
"Or what, I could gut you like the fish that you are."
"It's funny how you have these feelings towards me, but when you were here, you didn't say a word. You had ample time to make a move, so why didn't you? Oh, that's right, you can't piss unless your mom and dad give you the go ahead. It seems like the only people that aren't bitches in your family are Myles, Celine, and Nova," I yelled.
"Watch yourself," he said, as if he could attack me through the phone. "I won't, just know that I do not have the same reservations about violence that my husband holds. Keep that in mind the next time we see each other. Let's see how free you are to fight someone who has no problem slitting your throat without an army behind you," I said with a voice dense with rage.
"Also, do not take for granted the trust we are placing in the North. We both know that when the North plans contingencies, they have a full intention of executing those plans. The South may seem relaxed to the world, but when a blood oath brakes, we become as ferocious as a leopard. I will inform my mother in twelve hours and when that information gets to her she will expect a redefining of the treaties to keep us from going to war, especially with Myles's life on the line," I admonished. "Sure," he said.
"Just so you know, the first thing that we will strike is the deep sea gold mining operation that frequently has your workers crossing into our land. I believe that there are forty billion dollars a year made from the site that you would like to keep up and running," I said and listened as the line went silent.
"We will discuss the change in treaty" he said before abruptly hanging up. I could tell he had little interaction with other royals who didn't tuck their tail between their legs when he used his normal tactics of intimidation. I knew that more than likely we would never fight because of how royalty works, but Myles was mine and I protect what is mine.
"You really didn't have to do that," Myles said, standing in the doorway, which I hadn't noticed he had opened since I was so engrossed in the call.
"Yes, I did baby boy, let's go shower and take a nap you look like you need at least six hours of sleep," I said walking over to him still huffing and puffing. I could see by the look in his eye that were going to do a lot more than shower, which may or may not have calmed me down a little.
