Marjorie and autumn were sat in the office, Marjorie was flicking through her emails, she opened an email and rolled her eyes.
"What is it?" Autumn asked.
"Can you believe your dad's put out another job advert!? He's looking for another deputy manager." Marjorie responded.
"I'm not surprised, we are rather short on staff around here." Autumn spoke. She was then interrupted by her phone ringing, it was winter.
"Hello, my sweet. Is everything okay?" She asked, her voice was full of concern.
"Not really- we could really do with a hand in the baby room, it's madness in here." Winter replied.
"Okay, my love. I'll be right over." Autumn smiled as she hung up.
"Who was that?" Marjorie asked.
"It was winter, I'm going to the baby room, they're struggling. Maybe it's good that my father's advertising for more staff." Autumn spoke as she left the office and made her way to the baby room.
Marjorie sat in the office alone, until all of a sudden, the phone rang. She picked it up and rolled her eyes when she noticed that it was Roger calling her. "Hello, Roger, what can I do for you?"
"I sent out the job description yesterday, have you had any applicants?" He asked.
"Not yet.." Marjorie sighed. "Have some patience, but I'll call you if I receive any application forms."
"Good." Roger said sternly as he hung up.
Marjorie was writing up a few reports until her emails were spontaneously flooded with application forms. She took the time to read each form, none of them were very appealing, until came across one form in particular, her eyes widened, the name 'Diana Miller' rang a bell. She sat for a while, re-reading the same form, and repeating the name in her head, until she finally remembered. She called Roger immediately.
"Marjorie- what is it now?" Roger groaned as he answered the call.
"I've had loads of applications but there's one in particular I thought you might want to be made aware of." Marjorie said with her voice full of unease.
"Why is that?" Roger asked.
"Does the name 'Diana miller' ring a bell?" Marjorie asked.
"No.. it can't be.." Roger began, Marjorie cut him off.
"Reece and autumns mother, it definitely is." Marjorie spoke.
While Marjorie was on the phone, Reece stood at the office door, listening in on the conversation, although- Marjorie wasn't aware that he was stood there.
"Marjorie, we made a deal a long time ago. You can't let this get out, you can't tell a soul, do you understand?" Roger asked.
"Yes," Marjorie nodded. "But she does seem fit for the job, what do I do?"
"Call her in for an interview.. but just keep the secret safe." Roger demanded.
"Will do," Marjorie nodded as she hung up.
Reece was rather confused, he didn't want to make any assumptions, so he decided not to question it, maybe it was just a misunderstanding.
"Hey gorgeous, I've got your coffee." He smiled as he walked over to her desk.
"Did you hear that phone call?" Marjorie asked as she went awfully pale.
"I wasn't listening- who was it?" He asked.
"Good." Marjorie whispered to herself. "It was just Charlotte.. uh- calling in sick." She lied.
It caused reece to question the situation even more.. why was she lying?
Instead of confronting her.. he just played along. "Oh okay," he smiled. He gave her a quick kiss on the cheek. "I should really get back to work, gorgeous."
"Okay, my love." Marjorie smiled. "I'll see you later."
Reece nodded. "See you," he spoke as he left the room.
Marjorie was frantically typing on her computer for the rest of the afternoon, trying to find out as much information as possible about Diana.
Once she'd scheduled the interview, she called Roger.
"This is the second call today, Marjorie. What do you want now?" Roger rolled his eyes.
"I've scheduled the interview with Diana for tomorrow morning. I just thought I'd let you know." Marjorie spoke.
"Good- but remember what I said, right? Don't tell anyone the truth." Roger said sternly.
"Don't tell anyone the truth." Marjorie muttered to herself. "Got it."
"Good," Roger nodded. "Let me know how the interview goes."
"I will." Marjorie replied as she hung up.
She continued to frantically search for information about Diana, she wanted to find out as much as she could before the interview. Autumn walked back into the office and noticed the stress on Marjorie's face. "What are you doing, Marjorie?"
"Nothing!" Marjorie lied. "Just responding to a few emails." She lied.
"You know.. you're a terrible liar." Autumn smirked.
Marjorie rolled her eyes. "Fine... I've scheduled an interview for tomorrow morning,"
"That's good, I wonder if we'll actually find ourselves a decent member of staff." Autumn said sarcastically.
"Well, your dad seems to think she's fit for the job." Marjorie replied.
"Knowing my father, if he's hired anybody.. it's probably someone we already know." Autumn laughed.
"Most definitely is." Marjorie muttered under her breath.
"What was that?" Autumn asked.
"Nothing!!" Marjorie lied. "Just get back to work." She snapped.
Autumn squinted her eyes and stared at Marjorie for a moment. "I know you're hiding something, and I will find out."
"I'm not hiding anything." Marjorie smiled as she continued to type on her laptop.
"Let me see your laptop then." Autumn smirked.
"NO!" Marjorie shouted, she slammed her laptop shut.
"See.. you're definitely hiding something." Autumn joked.
"I'm not! You know how protective I am over my laptop." Marjorie lied.
"Whatever you say Marjorie.. whatever you say.." autumn replied as she left the room.
Marjorie held her head in her hands and sighed, this secret was going to be harder to hide from everyone than she had anticipated.
But the real question was.. how did she find out in the first place? If she knew where Reece and autumns mother was the whole time.. then why didn't she say anything?
To be continued..
