Chapter 10: Not the same anymore.

Was it all a lie?Words: 5048

A few days had passed, reece moved back home, where he belonged. Both Marjorie and Reece felt as if their relationship was no longer the same as it was before, they still loved each-other deeply but they just felt like something was off. Something had changed..

It was a Wednesday evening, Marjorie arrived home late. Reece was in the kitchen preparing dinner, Marjorie didn't even stop to say hello, she just went straight upstairs and got herself ready, she was going down to the bar with autumn and Charlotte for a few drinks.

She wore a black dress, with heels, she straightened her hair and touched up her makeup. Once she was ready, she grabbed her bag and made her way downstairs.

Reece walked over to her. "Where are you going?" He asked.

"Just to the bar, going to meet char and autumn for a few drinks." Marjorie responded.

"You didn't think to tell me?" Reece scoffed.

"I didn't think I had to." Marjorie responded. "Do you have a problem with me going?"

Reece shook his head. "No.. it just that, dinners almost ready."

"Oh." Marjorie paused for a moment. "Just save me a bit, I'll have some when I get back."

"Okay." Reece sighed. "Well.. have a nice time I suppose."

"That was certainly loaded." Marjorie rolled her eyes.

Reece frowned. "I wasn't being sarcastic." He snapped. "Do you need me to pick you up later?"

Marjorie shook her head. "I'll just get a taxi, to save you any bother."

"It's no bother- I always pick you up," Reece reasoned.

Marjorie shrugged. "Maybe it's just different now.."

"Fine," he sighed. "I'll see you later,"

"Love you." She smiled slightly.

"You too." Reece spoke dryly.

Marjorie noticed his unusual behaviour and wondered if she'd offended him. She didn't want to ask him about it, she knew it would start another argument.

While Marjorie was out, Reece sat at the dining table, eating dinner, all alone. He couldn't stop thinking about her, he always wondered what she got up to while he wasn't around.

About three hours passed, Marjorie, autumn and char all left the bar, and said their goodbyes. Marjorie could barely walk in a straight line, but she still managed to call herself a taxi.

The car arrived, she sat in the backseat and told the driver her address.

"Could you be quick please? I'd like to be home by 11." Marjorie spoke.

"Of course," the driver spoke in a flirtatious tone. "You're absolutely stunning, by the way."

Marjorie blushed slightly. "Oh- thank you." She smiled.

As he parked the car just outside the house, he handed her a little slip of paper. "I'm Louis, I'd love to take you out for a drink some time."

Marjorie unfolded the piece of paper and raised an eyebrow. "Your number, seriously?"

"Mhm." The driver nodded. "It was nice meeting you."

"I'm actually married.." Marjorie laughed awkwardly. "But it was nice meeting you too,"

"Oh, okay, well if things don't work out between you and your husband- I'd like to get to know you." The driver smiled.

Marjorie got out of the car and walked towards the front door, she unlocked it and rushed straight into the kitchen, she screwed the piece of paper up and threw it in the bin- she couldn't do that to Reece.

At that moment, Reece walked into the room. "Hey." He spoke.

Marjorie turned around. "I didn't expect you to still be awake,"

"I stayed up for you." He replied.

"Oh you didn't have to." Marjorie laughed.

Reece smiled. "I wanted to." He leaned in for a kiss, but Marjorie stepped back to avoid it. "I was just going to give you a kiss, what's wrong?" Reece questioned.

"I can't," Marjorie replied. "Not right now."

"If you don't want to be with me, just say so." Reece spoke.

"What do you mean?" Marjorie raised an eyebrow.

"You don't love me anymore." Reece said bluntly.

Marjorie shook her head. "No, it's not like that."

Reece raised his voice slightly. "Oh really? So what's it like then? Because ever since our argument.. you've been acting strange.. it's not the same anymore,"

"Reece- I do love you, but we have to learn to trust each other again. We both want a fresh start, but in order to do so, we need to give each other space." Marjorie responded.

"I don't care how complicated this gets, I still want you." He said.

Marjorie stayed silent, she didn't respond.

"Marjorie?" Reece called out.

"I miss us, we're not the same anymore and we need to do something about it." Marjorie said.

"Just give it time." Reece said.

"Alright-" she sighed. "I'll sleep on the sofa tonight,"

Reece shook his head. "No i will, I know you hate sleeping down here, just have the bed."

"You know me so well," she laughed. "Night,"

"Night, i love you." He said.

Marjorie just nodded and walked away, slipping her heels off as she walked up the stairs, she got changed and laid in bed, staring at the ceiling, wondering if things would ever be the same again, would it get better? Or would it get worse..?
