Chapter 4: Lost.

Was it all a lie?Words: 5465

Days passed, Marjorie and Reece were living under the same roof with absolutely no communication. They didn't even look at each-other. In Marjorie's eyes, it didn't feel real.

Roger was furious, he was angry at Marjorie for spilling the secret, but instead of hurting her.. he wanted to hurt Reece.

-

Marjorie was on her lunch break, sat in her office, scrolling on her phone, until Reece walked into the room.

Marjorie looked up from her phone and rolled her eyes. "I thought you wanted nothing to do with me?"

"I didn't mean it, I'm just angry. You said you'd never lie to me, you broke our promise." Reece spoke.

"I'm sorry," she spoke. "I had no choice, and you know that."

He grabbed her hand, which took her by surprise. "Marjorie- look at me."

She looked up at him, but she didn't look at him with loving eyes as she usually would, instead, her eyes were just empty.

"I think we just need some time apart, we're both angry at each-other... but this isn't permanent, I still love you, and I always will." He spoke as he let go of her hand and left the room.

"It's not over, is it?" She asked.

Reece turned around, he didn't say anything.. he just shrugged.

Marjorie felt her heart break, she sat in her chair, she felt lonely, and empty. She loved Reece more than anything else. She sobbed, and sobbed.. and sobbed.

A few minutes later, Charlotte walked into the room, and noticed Marjorie crying. "Oh my goodness, Marjorie, are you okay?"

"No." Marjorie shook her head.

"I heard about what happened with Reece, I'm really sorry... but you know it's gonna get better, right?" Charlotte said.

"I don't know if it's going to get better, it just seems to be getting worse. We live in the same house, yet we don't talk, we don't even look at each-other." Marjorie cried.

"It's not all your fault," Charlotte said in a reassuring tone.

"I just hope I learn to get over myself, I hate this." She added.

"You will, i promise. Reece still loves you." Charlotte smiled.

"I don't know about that.." Marjorie laughed. "You should get back to work, my love." Marjorie smiled.

"Okay." Charlotte smiled. "How about drinks, tonight?"

Marjorie nodded. "I'd love that."

"Great, I'll call you later." Charlotte smiled as she left the office.

Charlotte left the office, she noticed Reece and Roger stood out in the corridor, she didn't want to be nosy, but she wanted to know what they were talking about, so she stood, eavesdropping on their conversation.

"Reece, I know your secret." Roger spoke.

"What secret?" Reece shrugged.

"A mistake that you made many years ago." Roger smirked.

Reece went pale, he knew exactly what his father was talking about. He shook his head as he was in denial. "No you don't.."

"Yes I do." Roger laughed.

"Don't you dare tell anybody.." Reece snapped.

"No promises." Roger spoke as he walked away.

Charlotte was confused, what did Roger mean by 'secret' ? Surely there wasn't anymore secrets... or was there?

Later that day, Marjorie arrived home at about 5pm. She was meeting Charlotte for drinks at the bar at about 7, meaning she had two hours to get ready.

She didn't bother speaking to Reece, she just went straight upstairs. She opened her wardrobe and chose an outfit, she pulled out a black dress with some black heels. Once she was dressed, she curled her hair, and touched up on her makeup. She then reached for her bag and made her way back downstairs.

Reece was stood in the kitchen, he glanced at her and admired her for a moment while she wasn't looking.

"Are you going somewhere?" He asked.

"Yeah- just going out for a few drinks." She said bluntly.

"mhm." Reece hummed in response as he took his coffee and left the room.

Even though they were still living together, Marjorie still missed him so much. They were like strangers.

Marjorie arrived at the bar, at about 7, she sat beside Charlotte, who was already there waiting for her.

"Hey Marjorie," Charlotte smiled. "You okay?"

Marjorie just shrugged. She ordered herself a vodka lemonade, instead of wine. "What am i supposed to do?" She sighed.

"I know Reece is angry right now, but he won't be forever." Charlotte spoke.

"I'm starting to have second thoughts about this relationship, it isn't working." Marjorie sighed as she sipped her drink.

"No.. Marjorie." Charlotte replied. "Seriously?"

"I don't know.." Marjorie responded as she fiddled with her wedding ring.

"I think you two just need some time apart, it's only temporary." Charlotte said.

Marjorie nodded in agreement, they both ordered a few more rounds of drinks and spent the evening discussing the situation.

11pm rolled around, Marjorie called herself a taxi and made her way home. She walked through the door and slipped her heels off, the lights were off, and reece was upstairs, sleeping in the spare bedroom. Marjorie walked into the kitchen and flicked the light on, she noticed a note which had been left on the side.

Hey, dinners in the microwave. I made your favourite.

- Reece.

Marjorie smiled to herself, although her and Reece weren't on speaking terms, his gestures still proved that he still cared about her.

She opened the microwave, there was a plate of carbonara sat there. She heated it up, and then sat alone and ate her food. She stared at the photo frame on the wall beside her, it was a photo of her and Reece, she felt as if she'd lost him.. completely.

To be continued.
