"What the fuck is wrong with ya'll!" Aunt Latoya snaps as she paces up and down the room
Xavier's eyes follow his mother's footsteps with an unbothered look, he's worried about Indiah but not in the mood for Latoya's shouts. We don't even know what happened, but when we got to the hospital she was on shift and almost had a heart attack when she saw Indiah being wheeled in by the medics.
"Drink here, drink there, weed this, weed that. What you think we tell you not to do this shit on purpose?" She scoffs
"You don't even know if that's what happened-
"No but I know that it's your responsibility to look after your sister when you go out to places. Now she's out here having seizures? Jesus, what kind of party did you go to"
The doctor comes in and briefly speaks to aunt Toya, if she wasn't pissed before then she certainly is now. Like no joke, I saw her upper lip twitch once the door closed behind him.
I was scared to even utter a word
"Oh so ya'll really playing with me today. How on earth did you manage to lose sight of her and let her go off on her own" She scoffs
I'm so lost....
Xavier rolls his eyes
However when his mom sees that we're not replying she suddenly looks at us with realisation, "Ohhhh so you two decided to go off and have happy time. Tell me, was the sex that good? You just had to have that moment today-
"Wait a minute-
"No don't wait a minute me. He was supposed to keep an eye on Indi, not get distracted by you", She interrupts with annoyance
Shes never spoken to me like that before, and you know had she not been my best friend or boyfriend's mama I would've popped off. But considering the fact that I actually respect her, I'm gonna choose to stay quiet.
Still, the way she's talking to me is actually hurting my feelings. And I'm getting annoyed.
"No cause you're not even letting her speak, you've not heard a full story and you're out here assuming-
She flicks Xavier's ear, "They found cocaine in your sisters' system!"
We both frown, "What?"
"Had you two been with her this could have been avoided-
"But aunt Latoya that's not exactly fair, Indi still might've-
"What are you talking back for?"
Wow ok
"Ma, chill"
Nobody gets to speak to me that way but my mother or father, and possibly GG. So before I say anything that I'll regret I'm gonna wait in the waiting room for Indiah to wake up.
"Let me know when she's awake", I say to Xavier
"Ree-
"What are we doing in a hospital?", A tired voice asks
We all look over at Indiah as she lies there frowning, I feel an instant relief settle inside me.
"My baby", Her mother murmurs whilst kissing her head with closed eyes
"Ma", She fusses
"You ok? How you feeling?"
"Yeah I'm fine-
Her tone suddenly changes, "Then what on earth were you thinking"
"Uhhhh, I'm lost"
"Child don't play with me. Did someone make you take drugs?"
That question seemed to have made her remember everything, "No"
Xavier kisses his teeth, "Why would you even take that shit in the first place"
"It sort of just happened-
"Who gave it to you"
"Nobody", Indiah answers carefully
I already know she got it from Archie otherwise she wouldn't be hiding it.
"Now is not the time to be hiding anything cause if you don't answer now you sure as hell gon answer to the cops" Latoya lets her know
She frowns, "Wait the cops?"
"You are a fifteen year old who not only had access to drugs but had a seizure, of course they're gonna question you"
"Ok but it doesn't need to go that far, look ma please. I'm fine" Indi pleads
"We'll see what your daddy has to say about that"
I asked my dad to come pick me up and told him I'd explain everything when he got here, I'm so exhausted. Aunt Latoya eventually had to leave and talk to the doctors but she sure as hell didn't fail to remind me that this was my fault. She seems to be taking her anger out on me more than anything.

"I was pressured but not pressured you know? Archie was urging me to try some and told me I'd feel good but I mean he was also high so I didn't take him too seriously, it's not so much his fault. Anyway I had two lines and that was that. I came to you guys and felt weird" Indiah explains to me
"You know Xavier isn't gonna have that right"
"That's why I'm not telling him"
"Dee", I say wearily
"Look I just can't alright?"
"He's gonna know that I know. And babe as much as I don't want Archie to get in trouble, he just let you wander off without checking on you or anything. Why would he even encourage that? We don't take those kinds of drugs"
"I know I know"
"I'm just glad you're ok"
She holds my hand with a soft look, "Don't listen to my mom. It's not your fault"
I don't acknowledge her comment, "What are you gonna tell the cops"
"I'm hoping it doesn't come to that. I'm just gonna try convince daddy to get them to leave it alone"
"What about Kaian, does he know what happened?"
"Haven't spoken to him since last night, he found out about me and Archie and was just feeding me bullshit about him. I told him to fuck off, then I saw him talking to this other girl which shouldn't have bothered me but it kind of did"
Oh lord
I sigh, "You two are certainly something else"
"Mari", She says knowingly
"Yeah?"
"What else did mama say"
"Nothing"
"I don't believe you"
"It's fine, look I'm gonna wait outside for my dad but I'll come check on you tomorrow ok?"
Indiah pouts, "Alright"
I tuck a hair behind my ear as I head towards the door, as I open it though Xavier appears with a bag of food. He went to Mcdonald's real quick to get Indiah something to eat.
"Not gonna eat?"
"No thanks", I reply shortly
"Where you going?"
"Outside to wait for my dad"
As he puts the food down Indiah gestures for him to go after me, I honestly don't need him to. I just wanna go home and sleep.
"Hold on, Ree" He grabs my arm gently once we reach outside
"What?"
Xavier's face softens "You're not ok. I'm sorry about my mom alright? I'm gonna talk to her-
"It's whatever"
"No it's not cause this ain't your fault and she knows that"

"She called me a distraction"
"You are not a distraction. We had sex way before Indiah even took the drugs and even so I don't regret it. She don't know what she be saying when she's mad, I'm gonna speak to her ok?"
I don't reply and he holds my chin, "I need to know you're ok" He says softly
"I am fine"
I'm pissed
We wanna talk about distraction? Let's talk about the fact that Latoya is too busy with her work life to even know what's happening to her kids. She doesn't even know Xavier was stabbed, but I'm the distraction?
He pulls me in for a hug and I return it momentarily, "Hey"
"Hmm"
"I love you"
"I love you too" I eventually murmured
"You are anything but a distraction, and even if you were you're the prettiest distraction I've ever seen"
I smile a little before looking past him, I see daddy's car pulling up. "My dads here"
We wait for him to pull up right outside the doors and Xavier kisses my cheek before allowing me to get into the passenger side. Dad lowers down my window and he leans in, "What's up uncle T"
"Look who came out of hiding", He says amused
"Yeah, I'd like to avoid getting murdered"
"I've heard that the love word is getting thrown around"
I frown at my dad, "I never told you that"
"You didn't, but that just confirmed it"
"Ugh"
Dad tilts his head, "So you love her huh"
"Yes I do", Xavier nods
"What's her love language", He quizzes
"Oh gosh" I mutter

"Physical touch and quality time" He answers right away
"Dream place to visit?"
"The Maldives"
I narrow my eyes, "And I've never told you that"
"I know everything", Zay lets me know
"Oh really? What's her childhood favourite disney movie"
He snorts, "Lilo and Stich. Way too easy uncle T"
It's true, I even have the jibbets on my crocs
"Alright mr cocky. Where would she like to live in the future" He says amused
"She wants to stay here and be close to family"
My face softens, he really knows me well...
"And if she's mad what are you doing to make her feel better" My dad finally questions
"Easy, food"
"You know she's expensive right"
"I figured that when she asked you to buy her a Van Cleef for her ninth birthday"
I scoff as I hit my dad on the arm, "You told him?"
"What, about the part where you cried when I said no?"
To be fair I didn't know how expensive it was. I saw him buy one for mama and it looked really cute so I wanted it too. In the end he got me a fake one but I could spot out that it wasn't an actual Van Cleef bracelet.
Xavier laughs, "It's alright I know what I signed up for"
"Keep it up dad, I got some shit mama don't know about you too"
"That's my cue to stop talking. But speaking of, why am I picking you up at the hospital?" He suddenly remembers
Aunt Latoya knocks on his window at right about the same time and he lowers it, "Toya. You alright, what's going on?"
"Hey yeah everything's fine. Well I mean it's not, Indiah had a seizure at the party and so they brought her here-
Dad scoffs, "What?"
"She's ok now, but it was a real scare"
"What caused it?", He asks with concern
"Cocaine. And she's not telling me who she got it from, was obviously one of her friends. But if she ain't telling me she's gonna have to answer to her dad, and possibly the cops"
My dad looks back at me with disappointment, "Cocaine. Seriously? Did you take some?-
"No I would never. And neither does she, this was her first time"
"Ok well do you know who she got it from?"
"No"
"Amariah this is serious"
"Dad I know"
"I don't think she does realise how serious this is-
"I was crying on the way here, I think I know how serious it is"
I'm sorry but aunt Latoya's pushed me just a little too far. Even dad and Xavier were a little surprised by my tone. It was silent for a sec until he turned back to her
"We'll be back tomorrow morning, sorry about that"
"It's alright. See you tomorrow"
She even said bye to me but I didn't say it back, and my dad looked far from impressed.
"What do you call this?"
I can't even look at Xavier right now because he's probably annoyed too, but still I don't say anything.
He was talking to her for a little longer until we eventually did leave.
"What was that-
"No because I was silent and calm throughout the entire time that she was dissing me at the hospital but it's too far now, she called me a distraction and made sure to keep reminding me that this was my fault. If we wanna start throwing blame then I'll go ahead and blame her because as far as I'm concerned, she's a-
"She's a what, go on. A what?" He dares me
I face the window cause I can feel myself starting to cry out of anger, "She's just mean and it's like ever since she found out about me and Xavier she hates me"
"Princess she doesn't hate you", He says softly
"Yes she does"
"Why was she dissing you, I don't understand. Keilyn you should've told me"
"She said I was distracting him from doing what he needed to do which apparently was to babysit Indiah when she's not even a little girl. And when I tried explaining myself she told me not to talk back like she was my mother, if she wants I can get rude back"
"I'm sorry she spoke to you that way. This wasn't your fault and I doubt that you'd have been able to stop Indiah anyway. I'll talk to her about it, she always tends to say the most bullshit when she's mad"
"If someone's gonna shout at me then they better do it with facts, that was all lies. And you know what if I was such a disrespectful child all of you adults would've gotten exposed by now"
"Oh really?", He says amused
"Yes"
"What have you got"
And just like that I was already starting to feel a little better, I love car rides with my dad.
"Pfft, for starters you don't even like her"
He frowns as he looks away from the road, "Now who on earth told you that"
"Well you've known uncle Darnel since law school and those two were always on and off, then when he was gonna end it with her she trapped him with Zion and lets be real we all know uncle D ain't one to leave someone with a baby. That's when you started disliking her"
Dad looks shocked but also suspicious, "Ok first of all. Where'd you acquire that information"
I snort, "You and uncle J trash talk her all the time cause she only shows love and favouritism towards Zion which is true. Indi, Malik and Zay all got a rocky relationship with her"
He points, "Remind me never to let you chill around us ever again. I know you have something on your mom, spill"
"I can't", I laugh
"Clearly it's funny, tell me"
Now I'm dying of laughter because me and Trinity are the only ones that know she does this. "Alright but don't tell her I told you"
"Go on"
"Whenever she's mad at you she'll take your favourite brands of whiskey and give them out to homeless people, shes also done it with your Jordan's before-
He almost stopped the car as he sat there with an alarmed look, "I'm sorry what"
I purse my lips with amusement
"Which. Jordan's"
"Mmmm I can't specify-
"Speak"
"The military black ones-
"For fuck sake"
My dad don't play about his shoes

"Hey, ya'll are back early" Mom looks up from helping Trinity with her homework
I walk in first with a look and she tilts her head, "What?"
Then she sees dad follow me into the kitchen, but she still hasn't caught onto why I'm giving her a look.
Trinity leans on her fist. "Hi guys"
"Hey", I reply
Dad folds his arms as he looks directly at our mom
"Why you looking at me like that-
"I don't think I've ever been more betrayed by you in my life"
She snorts, "Stop being dramatic and tell me the problem"
"You give my whiskey and sneakers to the homeless and then act clueless when I ask where they've gone. Sound familiar?"
Trinity laughs, "Omg you told him?"
"Maybe-
"Ohhh, yeah baby that was weeks ago", She waves it off
He puts his keys down, "My Jordans Dakota"
"I'll be so real, I cannot remember what you did that day but I was very pissed with you"
"It was when he kept letting Asher stay the night cause of his breakup with his girlfriend" Trinity reminds her
"Mmm, yeah I'm not sorry about that" She says lost in thought
"He was upset." Dad replies
"He cheated on her as per usual and you baby him way too much, your cousin is thirty nine years old tell him to man up"
"See I agree with mama on this one", Trinity replies
"Exactly. If you gon cheat on a girl then dont have the nerve to cry when she leaves you. And you let him eat my cooking, that is a privilege. Barry down the street is enjoying your shoes as well as the leftovers I gave him, you want your sneakers back? Go drive down to target and drag them off his feet. Now are you done complaining? Cause I wanna hear what on earth happened at this party tonight for Indiah to end up in hospital"
Now that ladies and gentlemen is where my attitude comes from.
"I'm not done. But you look sexy so I'll let you have that one" He lifts up her stomach from behind her and she relaxes
"That feels really nice"
I shiver with disgust, "And that's my cue to leave"
"I second that", Trinity mutters before following me out
"Don't forget to finish your homework!", Mom calls out to her
"Ok!", We go upstairs
It has been such a long day and I just need to lie down and relax, before I go to sleep I'll make sure to text Indiah.
Neveah sticks her head out of her room, "Oooh you're back. Tell us everything"
"Grab your popcorn cause it's a long one", I reply
I collapse back onto her bed with the two of them, exhaling happily. "I had sex"
Neveah sits up with widened eyes, "Really?"
"Ewwwww", Trinity frowns
"It was great"
"Was it in Keisha's house?"
"Xavier's car"
"You guys are so ghetto"
"No but it was so good, I wish you guys weren't so young. Then I could explain the details"
"Did it hurt?", Trinity asks
"Only for like three seconds, it probably would've gone on for longer but I was pretty aroused so it kind of just slipped right in. Don't ask me what aroused means cause I can't be bothered to explain it"
"Did you have an orgasm?", She suddenly asks
"Why do you know that word-... hold on are you watching porn?" I ask suspiciously

"She heard aunt Nova talking about it then asked dad what it was-
