7 years later
I can't believe I'm now a qualified General practitioner even though I still have a long way to go to become a neurologist . It's been a very long journey but I am glad that this day has arrived. I'm waiting for my roommate to come out so that we can go to the hall. I looked myself in the mirror and I realized how far I have come. It feels so surreal that I am here , I mean a few years ago my future was decided for me but now I am able to make my own decisions regarding my future and I am content with my life.
Amisha finally came out of her room and we were on our way to the hall. It is not a long distance since we live inside the campus but obviously my bae had to be dramatic about it, can you believe he is waiting for us downstairs looking as handsome as ever but somehow he has Nkosiyabo's resemblance and not because I am still stuck on the past or anything but they just have that resemblance.
"Hi Misha , Sthandwa sam " He said pecking my lips
" Sonke how are you? " Amisha said
Makhosonke : " I'm good can we leave? "
" You guys can go I still have to do something. " I said
I started dating Makhosonke a few months back and I dated him because I feel like he understands me but I'm failing to be in love with him I just love him.
Amisha and my boyfriend left holding hands but I didn't think too much into it. I went to my room and lit my candles. This moment is very important to me, it something that I have longed for.
" Dear lord, I come before you with nothing on my hands but gratitude. Thank you lord for protecting me, thank you for allowing me to finish my journey of being a neurologist. Please give me strength as I am about to embark on another journey that I ran away from , please guide me, show me the way but mostly please remove everyone who will distract me from your way, remove everyone who is not good for me. As I am about to go to the school graduation please be with me and protect me from all evil in Jesus name Amen. " I prayed
If there's anything that I've learned is to never give up. I left immediately after praying .
At the venue
Luckily the ceremony hasn't started yet mind you I was so sure that I was late. When I entered I saw my mom , I just couldn't help it but to run to her and yes with my Steve Madden heels. I missed my mom a lot. When I looked around I also saw Ms Nyawo, my grandmother like everyone that is special to me
Mom : " Nana I am so proud of you. "
Grandmother:" Uqinisile uma wakho ngiyaziqhenya ngawe mntanomntami ngiyabonga uNkulunkulu ngokungigcina ngaze ngakubona usufeze iphupho lakho ( Your mom is telling the truth, I am very proud of you my grandchild. I thank God for keeping me till I saw your dream come true. ) "
Ms Nyawo: " Child your parents are telling the truth. I'm sure that everyone is proud of you, you have managed to stand high regardless of the things that you went through and with that said I am very proud. "
Everyone gave me words of encouragement and I found myself crying , I didn't even know what to say, I was just speechless instead I hugged everyone that came including my friends and Siphosihle and wow she has grown.
Ms Sithole : " Sanbonani family and friends can I steal your child for the next few hours, the ceremony is about to start and she has to be seated accordingly , My name is Ms Sithole I am her lecturer in pharmacology. "
Ma : " Nice to meet you mam , I am her mom. Hlelo hamba sisi sizokubona mawubuya( Go Hlelo we will see you when you return. ) "
Ms Sithole is my lecturer from my first year. She was the only person that I was able to trust after my experiences. I remember when I first saw her , she was written pain on her face and by that time everyone seemed to be against her in school but I saw that it was her experiences that made her seem like a cruel person.
We ended up having a teacher student relationship, she was my advisor and my family in Cape town. and long story short that's how I became close with her.
I went to sit with my schoolmates on stage looking at our families that came out in numbers to support us. The school's headmaster Mr Jacobs gave his speech of congratulating us and wishing us all the best. After all the speeches were given, they started handing out our certificate's.
Amisha was called first , she obtained 65 % in most of her modules and I was called last mind you I was starting to panic because I thought they forgot about me or I didn't make it but I also remembered that I received a invitation with two tickets inside.
" Surely Hlelo is wondering why I haven't called her yet. " Sir Mdluli said
Sir Mdluli is one of the lectures who I hate with my whole heart. He is a certified womanizer, he always uses student to get what he wants if not he fails you. He once tried it with me but I'm not that type I made sure that he never forgets who I am but that's a story for another day.
" Yebo " my mom shouted
My mom can be dramatic at times.
" Well you know what they always say, save the best for the last. I present to you, Dr Mthethwa who has managed to get straight A's in all her modules and as the UCT community, we are very proud of you my baby girl. " He said while handing me my qualification certificate.
I can't believe that I got straight A's in all modules, I mean medicine is not easy, you have to be committed and for me to not just pass but to get straight A's is a huge achievement for me.
Everyone was happy for except for my so called friend. You know it happens that sometimes you feel jealous of someone I mean it's normal but you don't have to show it. Amisha kept on giving me nasty stares along with my boyfriend which surprised me because I really didn't expect that from my lover but I told myself that they are not worth it.
Two days later
I'm finally moving back home. Though I am going to miss this place but I've missed going home and the good news is next month, I am having umemulo along with my graduation party.
Amisha left on the day of the graduations with my ex boyfriend. He is now my ex since he decided to take Amisha out and later making out with her like imagine , going into a restaurant with your family to o celebrate your results only to find your boyfriend and friend making out in front of people Yoh shem they did me dirty but I am not hurt because I was not really into the guy hence on l I didn't even react when I found them.
My bags are already packed up and my flight leaves at 11 am. I looked around checking if I left anything and nothing is left behind. I said a little prayer before I left. The Uber came and I looked back for the last time remembering all the memories I made in my room yoh it was a journey shem.
I arrived very early at the airport and decided to grab breakfast since I did not eat in the morning. I guess I was just too excited about going home even though I have been summoned by my ancestors. I know I'm being summoned to fulfill the promise that I made 7 years ago.
