âIâm not going to hurt her, Chris. Donât get all jumpy, will you?â Julia shouted at him and tried to drag me out with her. However, Christopher stepped up to stop her. âI said no!â he answered adamantly.
âChris!â I pushed him softly, telling him to stop.
However, he didnât let me go. âNow that everyoneâs here, I think itâs time to make things clear once and for all. Letâs not waste anybodyâs time.â
âWhat are you talking about? Weâre in the hospital, and Monicaâs still recuperating. Youâd better not make things worse.â Julia was starting to panic. She thought Christopher was going to say something bad, so she tried to stop him.
âWhat do you think, Monica? You donât want to drag this out anymore, donât you? Especially with how the media is talking about me. Honestly, theyâre getting on my nerves.â Christopher was still holding my hand tightly, but he was looking at Monica sharply.
I had no idea what Christopher was talking about, but Monica wasnât looking too good. It was as if she was⦠afraid. All the color drained from her face, and she clutched her head. âM-My head hurts, Julia. It hurtsâ¦â
âIâll get the doctor right away. Theyâll be right here, so donât worry.â Julia quickly called the doctor after Monica said she wasnât feeling well. A moment later, a doctor and some nurses came in to check on Monica.
Monica was lying in the bed, looking as weak as a wilting flower. She was so beautiful and weak, or at least that was what I would think if I hadnât found out what she did. If I didnât know any better, I would have felt guilty for hurting her.
Christopher was gazing straight at Monica. âI see. Youâre worried I might expose you,â he blurted something out, not giving her any chance to defend herself.
âI donât know what youâre talking about, Chris. If you really hate me that much, you can leave. Iâm really tired, and I donât want to argue with you right now.â Monica held her head with one hand, her eyes half-closed.
âChris!â Julia shouted. âGet out!â
âYou know what I want to say, donât you? You knew it all along.â Christopher ignored Julia and hugged me. âAfter we came back from the island, you told the doctor to spike my and Eveâs meds with a debilitating drug, didnât you?â Christopher played with my hair, asking Monica coldly.
I froze up, for I couldnât believe what I was hearing. I couldnât believe Monica was already drugging me when she had just met me for the third time.
âJulia, I want them out, please. Iâm really feeling uncomfortable right now, and I donât want to see them. Please tell them to get out!â Monica suddenly screamed like a maniac, and she squirmed on her bed violently. The nurse was trying to inject some meds into her, but because of her sudden movement, the needle pricked Monicaâs arm and drew blood instead.
Julia went over to her in an instant to calm her down. âCalm down, Monica. Iâll chase them out right away.â Then she shrieked at us, âYou heard her! Get out! Youâre not welcome here!â
âYouâre scared, arenât you, Monica? Scared of me exposing the truth.â Christopher refused to get out. âI didnât want to tell anyone about this because I still think of you as my sister. But what did you do? You kept using my motherâs guilt to hurt the woman I love.â
âJulia! Julia!â Monica started crying helplessly, clutching at the air. She looked at Christopher in horror, pleading for his mercy. âPlease, Chris. Please donât tell them! Please!â
I glanced at Christopher. This was the first time I saw him looking so determined. The flame of fury was roaring in his eyes, threatening to engulf everything in its way. I had never seen Christopher looking so terrifying before. He looked like a different person, but I wasnât afraid at all. Instead, I huddled closer to him.
âDonât tell them what? About how you spiked my meds and kept me in a coma? About why I was wheelchair-bound after I woke up? About how you played a part in that?â
