I was not familiar with Goldstein Corporation, besides, it was also my first time attending such an important shareholdersâ meeting. I was glad that Christopher had shared a little with me on how he usually handled such situations, otherwise, I would really be at a loss.
As I wasnât feeling well and did not have the strength to even walk, Christopher, who had always pampered me, decided to carry me all the way from the ward to the car, attracting the attention of everyone who walked past us. Even though we had been together for so long, I could not help but blush, feeling embarrassed.
âDo you have to do this? Iâm just having a fever. Youâll spoil me if you keep doing this,â I rubbed my head against Christopherâs chest. âIn fact, I think you have already spoiled me.â
âWell, so be it. Sometimes, I really wish you were more willful. You can feel free to speak your mind and tell me anything you want. Iâll fulfill all your wishes,â Christopher said softly.
âYouâre going to regret what you just said. Donât you know that a woman knows no limits once sheâs spoiled? Haha, youâre doomed,â I laughed cheekily, shaking uncontrollably in his arms.
âI will definitely have no regrets,â Christopher replied seriously.
After the car stopped in front of Goldstein Corporation, I glanced at the majestic building and turned to look at Christopher, asking cautiously, âUmm, why donât you come with me? Iâm quite scared to go alone as there will be many people there. From what mom said, it seems to be a really important meeting. Iâm worried that I will say something wrong and get into trouble.â
âSince itâs Goldstein Corporationâs shareholdersâ meeting, it wonât be appropriate if I go. Iâm sure the others wonât be happy seeing me there. You wonât want to put your mom on the spot, right?â Christopher patted the back of my hand lightly and said with a smile, âIâll be waiting for you here. If you are nervous, just look down from the window and youâll see me right there.â
âWould that work?â I remained standing at the door, feeling extremely reluctant to take another step forward.
âYou just have to listen to whatever Mrs. Goldstein says and do accordingly,â Christopher tousled my hair and said. Suddenly, his expression turned serious as he continued, âEve, no matter what happens later, donât be too shocked. We can talk about it after that, understand?â
Judging by the serious look on Christopherâs face, I could not help but wonder if there was something I wasnât aware of. Frowning, I asked, âWhatâs going on? Do you know something that I donât?â
Without answering me, Christopher gestured for me to head inside the building. âGet going. Iâll be waiting for you here. Remember, all you have to do is to listen to your mom.â
I just have to listen to my mom. I looped that line in my head several times before entering the building. I bumped into Mark at the entrance. Looking shocked to see me, he asked in a low voice, âWhy are you here?â
âDad, arenât you aware of it?â I blinked and continued, âMom asked me to attend the shareholdersâ meeting. Even though I only hold two percent of Goldstein Corporationâs shares, Iâm still considered a shareholder of the company. I only came at momâs insistence, though.â
âBelle asked you to come?â A crease appeared between Markâs brows. He seemed to be confused, having a perplexed expression on his face. However, the next moment, he said, âYou have to listen to whatever I say later, understand?â
Maybe I was just overthinking, but somehow, I had a feeling that it would be an eventful shareholdersâ meeting. Moreover, I was quite sure that whatever was going to happen would most likely be something that was difficult for me to accept.
When Mom saw me entering the office with Dad, her expression turned grim. Striding over to me, she pulled me toward her and sat me down with a sullen look on her face, completely ignoring Dad. Did they fight again?
âSince everyone is here, we can start the meeting now,â Mark said coldly, his expression darkening.
Just then, the meeting room doors suddenly flung open. Someone walked in while saying casually, âSince itâs a shareholdersâ meeting, how can I not be present? Uncle Mark, youâre getting old. Seems like itâs time for you to give up your position as the companyâs CEO. The company will only prosper with new leadership.â
